Nyjer Morgan has signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with Japan's Yokohama DeNA BayStars.
Morgan failed to attract much interest from major league teams this offseason after batting just .239/.302/.308 in 122 games last summer for Milwaukee. He probably would have had to accept a minor league contract (and invitation to spring training) to remain in the states. Jan 24 - 9:05 AM

Nyjer Morgan has elected free agency.

Morgan had a woeful 2012, batting just .239/.302/.308 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 12 stolen bases and a .610 OPS in 122 games. He'll have to settle for a minor league deal somewhere.

Brewers sent OF Nyjer Morgan outright to Triple-A Nashville.

The move clears him from the 40-man roster and signals the beginning of the end of his tenure in Milwaukee. Morgan was expected to be non-tendered, anyway. The 32-year-old outfielder batted .239/.302/.308 with three home runs, 16 RBI, 12 stolen bases and a .610 OPS in 122 games this year.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects Nyjer Morgan to be non-tendered this offseason.

Morgan earned $2.35 million in 2012 and is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter. The Brewers are likely to replace him with Logan Schafer, who is less expensive and under team control.

Nyjer Morgan has hired Rex Gary as his agent.

Morgan was previously represented by the ACES agency. The 32-year-old outfielder earned $2.35 million and is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter.

Nyjer Morgan, who had just 10 RBI all season, drove in three RBI Wednesday against the Rockies.

That's the good news. The bad is that he was both picked off third base and caught stealing second base in a game the Brewers ended up losing by a run.

Nyjer Morgan hit a rare homer in Monday's win over the Astros.

Morgan's dinger pulled the Brewers to within one run in the seventh, and he, of course, celebrated as if he had just won the World Series. The fiery outfielder has somehow managed to drive in just seven runs this season despite receiving 222 at-bats.

Nyjer Morgan is batting just .230/.291/.288 through 154 plate appearances this season for Milwaukee.

And yet he was celebrated with a "Bobblehead Day" on Sunday at Miller Park. Morgan has been losing playing time to Norichika Aoki and Carlos Gomez, and carries very little fantasy value despite his good speed.

Nyjer Morgan is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Astros.

Morgan broke out of his recent funk by going 3-for-5 with a stolen base on Tuesday, but he'll take a seat against the left-hander J.A. Happ. Carlos Gomez will make the start in center field and hit second.

Nyjer Morgan is not in Monday's lineup against the Astros.

Norichika Aoki will make the start in center field and bat second against right-hander Lucas Harrell. Morgan is batting just .119 (5-for-42) on the young season, so Aoki could continue to get looks if the struggles continue.

Nyjer Morgan is not in Saturday's lineup

Carlos Gomez will start in center field against Drew Pomeranz. Morgan is just 5-for-37 in 13 games this season.

Nyjer Morgan will start and bat second in Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Manager Ron Roenicke will go with his "left-handed" lineup, which features Morgan in center field and Mat Gamel batting sixth. Morgan will look to improve on his underwhelming spring. He batted just .238 with two steals and a 12/3 K/BB ratio.

Nyjer Morgan was hitless in four at-bats Monday against the White Sox.

Morgan has not showed off his assets this spring. His biggest weapon -- speed -- has translated into two steals in five attempts. With an ugly 12/3 K/BB ratio and a .238 batting average, he is not entering the regular season on a high note.

The Brewers signed outfielder Nyjer Morgan to a one-year, $2.35 million deal, avoiding arbitration.

A nice raise for Morgan, who enjoyed the best offensive year of his career in 2011, registering a .304/.357/.421 batting line in 119 games while earning close to the major league minimum. He's likely to serve as the Brewers' primary center fielder in 2012, unless Carlos Gomez suddenly makes a vast improvement.

Nyjer Morgan is starting in center field and batting second in Game 6 of the NLCS Sunday.

Milwaukee only made minor changes to their lineup, none of which were unexpected. Morgan replaces Carlos Gomez in center against right-hander Edwin Jackson, bumping third baseman Jerry Hairston to sixth in the lineup. Shawn Marcum, pitching in "the biggest game of (his) career," will take the hill for the Brewers. St. Louis will trot out the same lineup that they used in Friday's Game 5: Rafael Furcal (SS), Jon Jay (CF), Albert Pujols (1B), Lance Berkman (RF), Matt Holliday (LF), David Freese (3B), Yadier Molina (C) and Nick Punto (2B). St. Louis, leading 3-2, would stamp a ticket to the World Series against Texas with a victory. First pitch is scheduled for around 8:00 p.m. ET on TBS.
