Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Monday that Josh Kinney (shoulder) is "getting closer" to heading out on a rehab assignment.

Kinney is on the 60-day DL and thus isn't eligible to return until late May. It sounds like there's a good chance he'll be ready at that time.

Mariners placed RHP Josh Kinney on the 60-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury.

The move clears a spot on the Mariners' 40-man roster for reliever Kameron Loe. Kinney was shut down in early March with a stress reaction in his left shoulder and rib cage. There is no timetable for his return to Seattle.

Mariners and RHP Josh Kinney avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.

Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. The 33-year-old right-hander performed admirably in 2012, posting a 3.94 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 36/15 K/BB ratio over 32 innings of work. He'll likely serve in a middle relief role in the Mariners bullpen.

Mariners signed RHP Josh Kinney to a minor league contract.

Kinney became a free agent after being outrighted off the White Sox 40-man roster in October. The 32-year-old right-hander enjoyed success with Triple-A Charlotte this past season, but had a lousy 6.62 ERA in 12 appearances at the major-league level. He has an outside chance of winning a roster spot during spring training.

White Sox sent RHP Josh Kinney outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

Kinney had a nice year at Charlotte but posted a 6.62 ERA over 12 games with the big club despite striking out over a batter per inning. He can elect minor league free agency if he so chooses.

White Sox recalled RHP Josh Kinney from Triple-A Charlotte.

Kinney will join the White Sox bullpen after performing well in Charlotte, posting a 2.77 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 66/17 K/BB ratio in 61 2/3 innings of work. He last appeared in the major leagues in 2009 as a member of the Cardinals.

White Sox signed RHP Josh Kinney to a minor league contract.

Kinney was a reliable middle reliever for the Cardinals when they won the World Series back in 2006, but Tommy John surgery set him back and he hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009. That could change in Chicago. He had a 1.80 ERA over 60 innings at Triple-A Memphis last year and might be able to climb into the White Sox's Opening Day bullpen with a good spring training.

Josh Kinney underwent an MRI on his right shoulder on Wednesday.

Kinney is currently exploring treatments for an "impingement" in the right joint of his shoulder and said that he has worked through the sensation in previous springs. "It’s not anything that I'm too worried about," said Kinney. He should know more about the results on Thursday. Kinney, who turns 31 last month, was an important part of the bullpen in the team's World Series run in 2006, but has made just 24 major league appearances over the last three seasons due to injury. He's competing for a spot in the bullpen this spring.

Cardinals recalled RHP Josh Kinney from Triple-A Memphis.

The 30-year-old had a 10.95 ERA in 15 appearances over two stints for the Cardinals earlier this season. He'll assume a mopup role.
Wed, Sep 23, 2009 07:10:00 PM

Cardinals optioned RHP Josh Kinney to Triple-A Memphis.

Kinney gave up six runs in Saturday's blowout and was the victim of numbers as the Cards needed a fresh arm for Sunday. Kinney could be back soon as manager Tony LaRussa says he prefers 13 pitchers on his staff, and the club is at 12.
