Engel Beltre is nursing a strained muscle in the back of his left shoulder.
He has been examined by an orthopedist, who found no structural damage. Beltre could need more tests, though, and it's possible he'll have to pull out of playing for Spain in the World Baseball Classic. Feb 27 - 7:57 PM

Engel Beltre has been suspended indefinitely by the Texas League for his actions Tuesday night.

Beltre flung a trash can into the stands during a scuffle with fans in San Antonio, Texas after a home run was called back by umpires. The suspension could last for 10 days or longer. Beltre, 21, is batting .253/.286/.316 with zero homers, five RBI and three stolen bases in 18 games for Double-A Frisco this season.

Single-A Bakersfield’s Engel Beltre went 4-for-5 with a homer, a triple and five RBI on Friday.

Beltre, the outfield prospect the Rangers got from the Red Sox in the Eric Gagne deal, was a big disappointment last year, hitting .227/.281/.317 in 357 at-bats in the California League. He’s just 20, though, and he has plenty of tools. He does need to show more power this year, since he’s probably never going to be a big on-base guy.

Low Single-A Clinton's Engel Beltre had three hits on Wednesday, giving him 12 in his last five games.

His three hits came on a night in which his team as a whole had five. Beltre, part of the Eric Gagne deal with the Red Sox last year, is hitting .283/.308/.404 on the season. It's a fine line for an 18-year-old in full-season ball, but the fact that he has just seven walks in 339 at-bats is pretty ridiculous.

Engel Beltre went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI for low Single-A Clinton on Sunday.

David Murphy and Kason Gabbard have already paid dividends, but Beltre has the most raw talent of the players the Rangers picked up from the Red Sox for Eric Gagne last summer. The 18-year-old is batting .295/.331/.446 in the Midwest League.

Outfielder Engel Beltre was traded from the Red Sox to the Rangers in a four-player deal.

Beltre is the player in the Eric Gagne deal most likely to make the trade look bad for Boston 10 years from now. Of course, he's also the player most likely to make no contribution in the majors at all. The 17-year-old was hitting .215/.314/.413 in 121 AB for the Rookie GCL Red Sox. The Red Sox thought the left-handed hitter had star potential when they signed him a year ago. It'll likely be a couple of more years before anyone knows for sure.

ESPN is reporting that Engel Beltre would be included in an Eric Gagne deal with the Rangers, giving Texas three players.

Kason Gabbard and David Murphy are believed to be the other two. This makes the trade look a whole lot better for Texas. Beltre is just 17 and is even further away than Elvis Andrus and Neftali Feliz, but he was one of the top international players available in the 2006 signing period. He ended up taking a $600,000 bonus from Boston.

Engel Beltre homered twice Saturday and once more Sunday for the Rookie GCL Red Sox.

The 17-year-old Beltre was one of the most sought-after players during the 2006 international signing period. He's struck out 36 times in the GCL already, but he's flashed very impressive power for someone so young while hitting .248/.342/.455. He might be one of the Red Sox's top prospects in a year or two.

Red Sox signed outfielder Engel Beltre and shortstop Moises Tejeda to minor league contracts.

Beltre reportedly received a $600,000 bonus and Tejeda got $550,000. The 16-year-olds were ranked second and fourth, respectively, on ESPN's ranking of the newly available Latin American prospects. Beltre is a left-handed hitter and center fielder with power potential. Tejeda is a toolsy shortstop with a big-time arm.
