Giants signed OF Cole Gillespie to a minor league contract.
The 28-year-old is coming off a strong season at Triple-A Reno where he hit .308/.390/.494 with 13 homers, 66 RBI and 11 stolen bases. The former third round pick possesses a nice blend of power and speed and should compete for a reserve outfield job with the defending champions. He could be worth a look as a late-round flyer in extremely deep fantasy formats. Fri, Dec 21, 2012 07:53:00 PM

Diamondbacks released OF Cole Gillespie.

Diamondbacks designated OF Cole Gillespie for assignment.

The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Mike Jacobs. Gillespie, 28, spent all of this season at Triple-A Reno, where he batted .308/.390/.494 with 13 homers and 11 steals. It's possible he could receive some interest on waivers.

Diamondbacks optioned OF Cole Gillespie to Triple-A Reno.

Gillespie spent most of 2011 at Triple-A, batting .300/.405/.479 with 12 homers and 24 steals. He should be back up with the D'Backs at some point this season.

Cole Gillespie hit a grand slam in the ninth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.

He teed off on Ramon Troncoso. That's one way to make your case for the postseason roster. With just eight at-bats to his name, however, it's an honor Gillespie is unlikely to receive. He'll compete for a bench spot next spring.

Diamondbacks recalled OF Cole Gillespie from Triple-A Reno.

Gillespie had a nice year at Reno, batting .300/.405/.479 with 12 homers and 24 steals over 484 at-bats. He'll give the D'Backs some outfield depth.

Cole Gillespie struck out three times in Wednesday's Cactus League game with the Giants.

Gillespie got a hit in his other at-bat. So there's that. The 26-year-old is hoping to land a spot on the Diamondbacks' bench this spring. He has good speed, but the paltry .649 OPS that he posted last season won't guarantee him any kind of job security in 2011.

Cole Gillespie went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI Saturday as the Diamondbacks defeated the Dodgers.

Not bad. Gillespie is now splitting time in right field with Gerardo Parra but still owns a paltry .231/.263/.341 batting line and won't be of much use for the final few weeks of the fantasy baseball season.

Diamondbacks recalled OF Cole Gillespie from Triple-A Reno.

Gillespie, 26, is batting .221 with one home run and 77 at-bats with the Diamondbacks this season. He'll function as an extra outfielder down the stretch and the team could probably use one given the uncertainty surrounding Justin Upton at the moment.

The Diamondbacks plan to call up Cole Gillespie on Tuesday night.

Gillespie, a 26-year-old outfielder, has hit .221/.259/.338 with one home run, six RBI and 24 strikeouts in 77 at-bats for Arizona this season. He'll serve merely as outfield depth down the stretch.

Diamondbacks optioned OF Cole Gillespie to Triple-A Reno.

Gillespie has batted .221 in 77 at-bats over a few stints with Arizona. He's been sent down to clear roster space for the recently acquired Bobby Crosby.

Diamondbacks recalled OF Cole Gillespie from Triple-A Reno.

He'll take the place of Ryan Roberts on the 25-man roster. Gillespie batted .256/.310/.462 with one home run and four RBI in 39 at-bats with the big club earlier this season. The 25-year-old outfielder figures to get more playing time in his second stint with the club now that Conor Jackson has been dealt to the Athletics.

Diamondbacks optioned OF Cole Gillespie to Triple-A Reno.

Gillespie, 25, managed 39 at-bats in 17 games from the time he was called up -- April 24 -- and hit .256 with a .310 on-base percentage. He's likely to be recalled if there's an injury in the Arizona outfield.
Wed, May 19, 2010 07:55:00 PM

Cole Gillespie hit his first big-league homer Friday off the Brewers' Yovani Gallardo.

Gillespie has hit .300 with five doubles in 30 at-bats, so he's made a case for sticking around as the Diamondbacks' fourth outfielder after Conor Jackson returns. Still, the team probably isn't ready to send Gerardo Parra down just yet.
Sat, May 8, 2010 03:08:00 AM

Making his first career start, Cole Gillespie went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Friday against the Phillies.

That won't help his chances of getting more starts over Gerardo Parra. He's supposed to act as the Diamondbacks' fourth outfielder until Conor Jackson returns.
