Brewers signed OF Norris Hopper to a minor league contract.
Hopper was involved in two trades last season, making his way from the Reds to the White Sox and then over to the Nationals. Now he's with the Brewers and will try to fight for a backup outfield gig in spring training. He is a .316/.367/.371 career hitter in 396 major league at-bats. Thu, Jan 14, 2010 06:10:00 PM

Nationals acquired outfielder Norris Hopper and first baseman Daryle Ward from the White Sox for cash.

This is the second time in the last month and a half that Hopper has been dealt. He came to the White Sox from the Reds for Corky Miller in late June. Hopper has a .316 average in 396 career at-bats in the majors. The Nationals are deep in outfield options, so he is just organizational depth at this time. Hopper and Ward, who were at Triple-A Charlotte, will report to Triple-A Syracuse.

White Sox acquired OF Norris Hopper from the Reds for C Corky Miller.

Hopper followed what appeared to be a breakout 2007 by hitting poorly in the majors in 2008 and poorly in the minors in 2009. Still, with the weakness of Brian Anderson in center field, he might get a chance to catch fire with the big club at some point.

Reds sent outfielder Norris Hopper outright to Triple-A Louisville.

Hopper has a .316 average in 396 career at-bats, but no opted to grab him off waivers. His entire game is hitting singles, so he's a fifth outfielder at best. If only he proved to be a better infielder during his time in the minors, he could have had a long career as a utilityman.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds have re-signed Norris Hopper to a one-year deal.

Hopper, who was non-tendered Friday, minor league options left and could start the season at Triple-A if he doesn't impress the big club's brass during spring training.

Reds non-tendered outfielder Norris Hopper.

Hopper was a pleasant surprise in 2007, but he was never a good bet to have a significant career in the majors. Having missed most of last season with elbow problems that led to Tommy John surgery, he's likely looking at a minor league pact. Odds are that he'll stay with the Reds.

Reds placed outfielder Norris Hopper on the 15-day disabled list with a torn ligament in his right elbow.

He'll undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery. Hopper was a nice surprise last year, but he never figued to last as a reserve outfielder and the Reds shouldn't miss him off the bench. He was hitting .200/.286/.200 in 50 at-bats this season.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Norris Hopper is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday.

"It just got unbearable," Hopper said. "It hurts to swing the bat. At certain point in my swing, I'd cut it off when I'd feel the pain."

Reds activated outfielder Norris Hopper from the 15-day disabled list.

Hopper wouldn't belong on a healthy Reds roster, but there's room for him as a reserve outfielder for now. What starts he gets will come against lefties.

Norris Hopper (elbow) went 1-for-4 in the first game of a rehab assignment with Single-A Sarasota on Tuesday.

With Ryan Freel and Jerry Hairston Jr. both on the disabled list, there's probably going to be room for Hopper on the roster when he's judged ready to return. However, he's not one of the team's top 13 position players when everyone is healthy.

Norris Hopper (elbow) will begin playing extended spring training games Saturday in Sarasota, Florida.

Hopper has been on the disabled list since April 23 with right elbow inflammation. "He's kind of stuck as far as progress on his arm," Baker said. "He's progressing, but he's not progressing quickly enough." There's no timetable on his return.

Norris Hopper (elbow) has yet to throw a ball since going on the 15-day DL on April 23.

"He said he can hit," manager Dusty Baker said. "He's going to come back in better shape. All he can do is work out." Hopper will likely take a long rehab assignment before rejoining the Reds.

Reds placed outfielder Norris Hopper on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 19, with right elbow inflammation.

With Jerry Hairston Jr. up, the Reds have no real need for Hopper at all. They might as well let him get 30-40 at-bats in the minors before they consider bringing him back.

Norris Hopper made a second straight start over Corey Patterson in center field on Friday, but went 0-for-3 against the Brewers.

Patterson is no ideal leadoff hitter, but that's hardly a reason to sit him in favor of Hopper against a rigth-hander. Hopper is hitting .240/.328/.240 to Patterson's .212/.263/.538. Ryan Freel, meanwhile, is at .276/.290/.310. There's not an everyday player in the bunch, but the Reds might as well stick with Patterson against righties. Despite the weak OBP, he's scored nine runs in 52 at-bats.

Norris Hopper went 0-for-2 after entering Friday's game and is in an 0-for-7 slump.

Hopper's offensive game is all about the single, and that he's struggling to collect them right now is going to hurt his case for playing time early on. He's hitting .238 with one extra-base hit and two walks in 42 at-bats.
