Brewers signed RHP Jim Hoey to a minor league contract.

The 29-year-old right-hander compiled a 5.47 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 14/13 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 innings in his last big league exposure with the Twins in 2011. He'll compete for a middle relief role in the Brewers bullpen.

Jim Hoey has elected to become a free agent.

Hoey refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas. He will hope for a shot with another organization.

Blue Jays claimed RHP Jim Hoey off waivers from the Twins.

Hoey yielded 20 runs in 24 2/3 innings for the Twins this past season, striking out only 14 batters while issuing 13 walks. He'll act as relief depth for the Jays.

Twins recalled RHP James Hoey from Triple-A Rochester.

Hoey has a 7.71 ERA and 9/8 K/BB ratio over 14 innings with the big club this season, though his numbers are skewed by a couple disaster outings. The 28-year-old right-hander throws hard, but continues to have command issues.

Twins optioned RHP James Hoey to Triple-A Rochester.

Hoey has allowed 17 hits and 22 runs in 14 innings this season for the big league Twins. He will continue to function as organizational relief depth.

Twins recalled RHP James Hoey from Triple-A Rochester.

Hoey, who was acquired from the Orioles in the J.J. Hardy trade, has struck out eight over five scoreless innings of relief since being demoted by the Twins earlier this month. He has a 9.72 ERA over 10 appearances with the big club this season. The Twins are hurting for bullpen help, so he could pitch his way into a significant role.

The Twins will likely call up James Hoey to replace the injured Kevin Slowey (abdominal strain) on the active roster.

Hoey was sent down to the minors earlier this month after posting a 9.72 ERA over 10 appearances with the big club. The 28-year-old right-hander has a 1.54 ERA and 16/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season.

Twins optioned RHP James Hoey to Triple-A Rochester.

The power reliever had a chance to claim a late-inning role when he was recalled in mid-April, but he didn't take advantage of the opportunity amidst a scuffling Twins bullpen. Hoey, acquired in the J.J. Hardy deal over the winter, posted a 9.72 ERA in 10 appearances with the Twins. The 28-year-old will return to a 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 8/1 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings that he posted at Triple-A. He'll be back later this season.

Twins recalled RHP James Hoey from Triple-A Rochester.

He'll replace Jeff Manship on the roster. Hoey, acquired in the J.J. Hardy deal over the winter, has a 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 8/1 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings at Triple-A. The 28-year-old posted a 3.25 ERA and 70/34 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk last season. He's a power reliever who has gotten his career back on track after missing the entire 2008 season following shoulder surgery. Hoey will pitch out of middle relief for the Twins.

Jim Hoey is expected to be promoted by the Twins soon.

He'll either replace Jeff Manship or Alex Burnett on the roster. Hoey, who was acquired in the J.J. Hardy deal over the offseason, has a 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 8/1 K/BB ratio over 6 2/3 innings at Triple-A. He could be used in a setup role with Joe Nathan moving to less pressurized innings.

Twins acquired RHPs James Hoey and Brett Jacobson from the Orioles for SS J.J. Hardy, INF Brendan Harris and cash considerations.

Hoey, who turns 28 later this month, posted a 3.25 ERA and 70/34 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk. He is a power reliever, but is just getting his career back on track after missing the entire 2008 season following shoulder surgery.

Orioles purchased the contract of RHP James Hoey from Triple-A Norfolk.

Interesting. Hoey, who turns 28 in December, hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2007. Since missing the entire 2008 season recovering from shoulder surgery, he posted a 4.50 ERA in 36 relief appearances with Double-A Bowie in 2009 and a 3.25 ERA in 42 appearances between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk this past season. He averaged 12.0 K/9 this season, but his command continues to be a major issue.
Wed, Nov 10, 2010 09:36:00 AM

Orioles sent RHP Jim Hoey outright to Double-A Bowie.

Obviously, no team was impressed by Hoey's stuff as he returned from a torn labrum this spring. He was shaping up as a quality relief prospect two years ago, but no one took a chance on him even though he has options remaining and could have been stashed away in Triple-A.

Orioles optioned RHP Jim Hoey, LHP Brian Matusz, LHP Troy Patton, RHP Chorye Spoone and RHP David Hernandez to Triple-A Norfolk.

Everyone here was destined for more minor league time before the spring even started. Hoey was supposed to be a fixture in the Baltimore pen by now, but he's coming back from shoulder surgery, as are Patton and Spoone. Matusz, a 2008 first-round pick, was the only pitcher in the group to get into more than one game this spring. He pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings over two appearances.
