Felix Doubront (elbow) is participating in sock throws.

Doubront just underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-April, so his sock throws aren't an indication that he is close to a return (a return from Tommy John in three months would defy the laws of physics), but this is one of the early steps toward a mid-season return in 2017. The next step in his rehab will come when he begins to play catch.
Aug 17 - 11:39 PM

Athletics transferred LHP Felix Doubront from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Doubront underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery earlier this month. He's done until mid-2017.
Apr 27 - 12:25 PM

Felix Doubront underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday.

A's head trainer Nick Paparesta told the media that it was a pretty standard procedure as far as Tommy John surgeries go. Doubront will miss the entire 2016 season.
Apr 12 - 7:14 PM

Felix Doubront is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Tuesday.

Doubront was supposed to open the 2016 season as the A's fifth starter, but he tore his ulnar collateral ligament in late March and will now be sidelined for the next 12-15 months. It's awful news for the 28-year-old left-hander, who had been hoping to reinvigorate his career in Oakland. He'll be a non-tender candidate next winter.
Apr 11 - 3:43 PM

Felix Doubront will go for a second opinion on his left elbow.

Doubront was expected to begin the year as Oakland's fifth starter, but he was forced to begin the year on the disabled list with an elbow sprain. The southpaw had something he believes was similar in 2010 and was fine within two or three weeks, but surgery hasn't been ruled out depending on what is found.
Apr 4 - 6:45 PM

Athletics placed LHP Felix Doubront on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left elbow.

Doubront suffered the injury in his final spring training start Saturday versus the Giants. It was originally called forearm tightness, but tests apparently showed some form of structural damage. He had been lined up to serve as Oakland's fifth starter to open the 2016 season. Maybe the time has already come for Jesse Hahn's return to the majors.
Apr 4 - 2:31 PM

Felix Doubront left Saturday's start against the Giants with left forearm tightness.

He came out after throwing just 17 pitches. Doubront was scheduled to make his season debut Friday against Seattle but that might have to be pushed back. Doubront earned a 5.82 ERA across 17 innings this spring. Jesse Hahn, who was recently optioned to the minors, could be asked to fill in if Doubront lands on the disabled list.
Apr 2 - 5:33 PM

Felix Doubront has won the fifth spot in the Athletics' rotation.

Doubront didn't have a great spring himself, posting a 6.19 ERA and 13/5 K/BB ratio over 16 innings, but the Athletics want Jesse Hahn to work on some things in the minors. The southpaw owns a 5.52 ERA over the past two seasons and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.
Mar 29 - 3:17 PM

Felix Doubront said he's okay after getting hit by a comebacker Saturday against the Giants.

Trevor Brown smacked a ball off his right leg in the second inning. Doubront said he briefly lost feeling in the muscle behind his knee but the numbness subsided and didn't affect his mechanics. Players don't always feel pain when they're running on adrenaline and it's possible Doubront could experience some swelling in the next few days. Consider him day-to-day.
Mar 19 - 8:25 PM

Felix Doubront allowed one run over four innings in a start Saturday against the Giants.

Doubront scattered five hits and a walk while striking out two. The expectation continues to be that Doubront won't be in the team's starting rotation come Opening Day, but he's making a case with a 3.00 ERA this spring. It still may not be enough, but he's at least showing the A's that they have options in the event that they need a spot start during the year.
Mar 19 - 7:39 PM

Felix Doubront struck out six over three scoreless innings in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.

Doubront allowed just one hit and did not walk a batter. The southpaw will likely serve as a long reliever in 2016. He can be safely avoided in all fantasy formats. For his career, he holds a 4.89 ERA, but he managed to crater even worse in 2015, posting a dreadful 5.50 ERA between the Blue Jays and A's over the course of 75 1/3 innings.
Mar 9 - 7:14 PM

Felix Doubront was hit hard in his Cactus League debut on Friday, surrendering two runs on five hits over his two innings of work against the Diamondbacks.

Part of the damage came on a solo home run off the bat of Jean Segura in the first inning. Provided the A's rotation remains healthy, Doubront is expected to see most of his time as a long reliever out of the bullpen this season.
Mar 4 - 6:39 PM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said he plans to use Felix Doubront in a swing role this season.

That's how Doubront was used last year when he started 12 games and made four relief appearances. Doubront has never finished a season with an ERA under four and owns a middling 7.74 K.9 for his career. Even in AL-only formats, Doubront doesn't offer much fantasy appeal.
Feb 20 - 4:35 PM

Athletics and LHP Felix Doubront avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Doubront was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter after posting a 5.50 ERA in 12 starts and four relief appearances as the major league level in 2015.
