Felix Doubront was rocked for six runs over just 2 1/3 innings Saturday against the Dodgers.
Doubront allowed six hits (including two home runs from Adrian Gonzalez) and was chased after giving up four runs in the third inning. He struck out two and walked two in the no-decision and now owns a 3.98 ERA and 8/6 K/BB ratio in 20 1/3 innings over his first four starts with Chicago. He'll try to rebound when he makes his final start of the season next weekend against the Brewers. Sep 20 - 5:59 PM

Felix Doubront fired six scoreless innings Saturday in the Cubs' 6-4 victory over the Pirates.

Doubront struck out just one batter, but he held the Bucs to four hits and one walk over his six shutout frames. The 26-year-old left-hander has been sharp in all three of his starts since joining the Chicago rotation and suddenly looks like an intriguing fantasy option for the final two-plus weeks. Talent has never been an issue. De La Rosa faces the Orioles in Baltimore next.

Felix Doubront allowed just two runs over five innings but the Cubs fell to the Pirates on Saturday.

Doubront threw seven innings of one-run ball against the Cardinals in his Cubs debut last weekend and looked sharp again Saturday night at Wrigley Field. Maybe the 26-year-old left-hander is ready to right the ship after a rough end to his Red Sox tenure.
Sep 6 - 9:13 PM

Felix Doubront fired seven innings of one-run ball Saturday as the Cubs won the first game of a doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Making his first start with the Cubs, Doubront scattered seven hits while walking one and striking out four. The only run scored on a double-play grounder from Jon Jay in the second inning. The southpaw really struggled during his time with the Red Sox this season, but he could be relevant in NL-only leagues if the Cubs give him a look in the rotation in September.

Cubs activated LHP Felix Doubront from the 15-day disabled list.

Doubront will make his Cubs debut on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Cardinals. The Cubs plan to utilize a six-man rotation in the month of September, meaning Doubront should stick around for the remainder of the season and could carve out fantasy value in NL-only formats.
Aug 30 - 7:50 AM

The Cubs plan to use a six-man rotation in the month of September, with Felix Doubront remaining after his spot start on Saturday.

That means that Jacob Turner, Kyle Hendricks, Travis Wood, Jake Arrieta and Tsuyoshi Wada will all receive extra rest down the stretch run. While it's helpful to keep all of their arms fresh, it's a blow to the fantasy value of all involved hurlers.

Felix Doubront (calf) allowed three runs over six innings Sunday in a rehab start at Triple-A Iowa.

The three runs came on eight hits. Doubront has been on the disabled list with a calf strain since the Cubs acquired him from the Red Sox on July 30 and he may be asked to take another turn in the rotation at Iowa. The left-hander had a 6.07 ERA this year in Boston.
Aug 18 - 8:35 AM

Felix Doubront (calf) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Iowa.

Doubront was acquired from the Red Sox late last month before being placed on the disabled list with a left calf strain. Look for him to join the Cubs' rotation once he gets stretched out.
Aug 11 - 5:11 PM

Felix Doubront (calf) threw a bullpen session on Sunday.

Doubront will throw a couple more bullpen sessions before beginning a rehab assignment. It's highly debatable whether he was actually hurt in the first place, so Doubront should join the Cubs' rotation once he gets stretched out.
Aug 3 - 3:14 PM

Cubs placed LHP Felix Doubront on the 15-day disabled list with a calf strain.

We'd never -- ever! -- accuse a big league club of shenanigans, but... it's possible this is a phantom injury. Doubront, acquired from the Red Sox on Wednesday for a player to be named later or cash considerations, is out of options, and Chicago is happy enough with back-end-of-the-rotation options Kyle Hendricks and Tsuyoshi Wada at the moment. They can now delay Doubront's Chicago debut for a few weeks.
Jul 31 - 5:07 PM

Cubs acquired LHP Felix Doubront from the Cubs for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Doubront posted a rough 6.07 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 59 1/3 innings this season for Boston and asked for a trade request when the Red Sox pulled him from the rotation. He has good raw stuff and should get a chance to start in Chicago, but the lefty remains a poor fantasy bet.
Jul 30 - 5:48 PM

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Cubs have an agreement in place to acquire Felix Doubront from the Red Sox for a player to be named later.

Doubront has fallen out of favor in Boston, but he should get his wish to start again with the Cubs. The lefty holds a career 4.82 ERA, but he's just 26 and has a career 8.1 K/9 rate, so it's probably worth a shot for Chicago to see if he can right the ship in the National League.
Jul 30 - 3:14 PM

Mopping up after Clay Buchholz was pulled, Felix Doubront gave up six runs while getting just two outs in the sixth inning Monday against the Red Sox.

The Red Sox brought Doubront in with the idea that he'd pitch at least a couple of innings and maybe even finish the game. Instead, he gave up six hits and two walks to the 10 batters he faced, throwing 36 pitches in the inning. It's possible that it was his last outing with Boston, as he'd like a trade if he's not going to be a starter, but it's quite a bit more likely that he sticks around and gets another chance to start later this year.
Jul 28 - 11:06 PM

Felix Doubront said Sunday that he'd rather be traded if he's not going to start for the Red Sox.

"If something happens, it’s going to happen because it’s going to be the best for me," he said. "I just want to be a starter and stay there. If I stay (with the Red Sox), they have to know I have to be a starter. If I go, the other team is going to give me this chance to be a starter." Doubront has little to complain about here, as he holds a 5.22 ERA this season and a pedestrian 4.70 mark during his career. Manager John Farrell indicated that the lefty isn't going to be starting again for the Sox anytime soon. "There's a clear role for him in the bullpen and sometimes performance guides where you're slotted," the skipper said.

Felix Doubront will not start next week versus the Cubs as previously expected.

Doubront had been expected to make one more start in order to get other rotation members some rest. However, with Chris Capuano being designated for assignment, Doubront is needed in long relief right away.
