Brewers reassigned UTIL Eugenio Velez, OF Kevin Mattison, C Matt Pagnozzi and RHP Dustin Molleken to minor league camp.

The 31-year-old Velez had a chance to make the team as a utility player with a strong showing in Arizona, but hit a paltry .056 (1-for-18) in his limited chances. He'll provide depth at Triple-A.

Brewers re-signed UTIL Eugenio Velez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Velez, 31, is a .241/.287/.367 career hitter in 718 major league plate appearances. He seems doubtful to crack the Brewers' Opening Day roster in 2014.

Brewers signed INF/OF Eugenio Velez to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Nashville.

Velez was released by the Blue Jays over the weekend after .270/.372/.437 with seven home runs and 21 stolen bases in 69 games in Triple-A. He'll serve as organizational depth for Milwaukee.

Blue Jays released INF/OF Eugenio Velez.

Velez was batting .270/.372/.437 with seven home runs and 21 stolen bases in 69 games this season for Triple-A Buffalo. He'll have little trouble finding a new team.

Blue Jays signed INF/OF Eugenio Velez to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an invitation to major league spring training. Velez, 30, batted .280/.358/.449 with 11 home runs, 58 RBI and 37 stolen bases with the Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate this past season. He'll need to have a big spring to win a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Eugenio Velez has elected free agency.

Velez did not appear in a game at the major league level in 2012, but posted a solid .280/.358/.449 line with 11 homers, 58 RBI and 37 steals at Triple-A Memphis. The switch-hitting utility man could generate some interest on the free agent market.

Cardinals signed INF-OF Eugenio Velez to a minor league contract.

Velez, 29, went 0-for-37 with the Dodgers this past season and batted .339/.371/.463 with two homers, 31 RBIs and 33 runs in 55 games with Triple-A Albuquerque. The switch-hitting utility man offers some speed and organizational depth.

Dodgers sent INF-OF Eugenio Velez outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Velez managed no hits in 40 plate appearances with the Dodgers this season. He's never had much big league success and will likely open the 2012 season in Triple-A.

Dodgers purchased the contract of INF-OF Eugenio Velez from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll take the place of Dee Gordon on the active roster. Velez, 29, was batting .339/.371/.463 with two homers, 31 RBI and an .834 OPS over 235 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. His speed makes him worth watching in deeper NL-only leagues, though it's unlikely he'll get enough playing time to be fantasy relevant.

Eugenio Velez suffered a Grade 2 sprain of his right ankle during Tuesday's game against the Cubs.

Velez had to be carted off the field. He appeared to roll the ankle on first base while trying to avoid colliding with Blake DeWitt on a bunt play. He had a slim chance to make the team in the first place, so this injury should seal his fate. We expect him to begin the season with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Eugenio Velez missed a flight Tuesday and was not in camp for the Dodgers' first team workout.

Not a good start for the 28-year-old Velez, who already had a very distant shot of making the Dodgers' Opening Day roster. He batted just .164/.246/.309 over 55 at-bats last season for the Giants and will almost certainly be ticketed for Triple-A when camp breaks.

Dodgers signed INF-OF Eugenio Velez to a minor league contract.

Velez was non-tendered by the Giants in early December after batting just .164 in 55 big league at-bats. The Dodgers probably view him as organizational depth, useful only in the event of an injury.

Giants non-tendered INF-OF Eugenio Velez.

Velez wasn't eligible for arbitration, so apparently Giants GM Brian Sabean didn't think he was worthy of a spot on the 40-man roster. Velez, 28, batted .164 in 55 at-bats with the big club this past season and wasn't likely to make the Opening Day roster in 2011, anyway.

Giants recalled INF-OF Eugenio Velez from Triple-A Fresno.

Velez has spent the past month with Triple-A Fresno, working his way back from a concussion suffered in July. He is batting .196 with two home runs and eight RBI in 46 at-bats with the Giants this season. We're not expecting much, but he is capable of playing second base and the outfield.
