White Sox signed OF Cyle Hankerd to a minor league contract.

Hankerd, 27, is merely organizational depth. He spent last season with Chicago's High-A affiliate.

Cyle Hankerd went 4-for-6 with two homers and five RBI for Double-A Mobile on Friday.

Hankerd followed up an outstanding pro debut in 2006 with three straight lousy seasons, but he's off to a .350/.431/.550 start as a Double-A repeater. It is well worth noting that the vast majority of his success has come against lefties (1422 OPS in 20 at-bats, 763 vs. righties), so it's probably too early to label it a breakthrough. At least both homers last night came off a guy with plus stuff in Sean West.

Cyle Hankerd hit his first two homers of the Hawaiian Winter League season on Wednesday.

Hankerd was the Northwest League MVP after being drafted in the third round in 2006, but he hasn't looked like much of a prospect since. He hit .245/.291/.333 with two steals in eight tries as a 23-year-old in Double-A this season. He is hitting .309/.361/.455 through 15 games in Hawaii, but it's pretty weak competition. He's a long shot.

Single-A Lancaster's Cyle Hankerd went 3-for-5 with a pair of solo homers on Wednesday.

Hankerd, a 2006 third-round pick out of USC, was the Northwest League MVP and is hitting .289/.396/.667 in 13 games since moving up to the California League. Now the Diamondbacks will just have to hope he's more Carlos Quentin than Jon Zeringue, a second-round pick who faded after a stellar debut in 2004.
