Angels signed RHP Ryan Braun to a minor league contract.
The "other" Ryan Braun is coming off a nice year for the White Sox' Triple-A affiliate, posting a 2.20 ERA, 9.6 K/9 rate and 18 saves over 57 1/3 innings. The 30-year-old holds a 6.66 ERA over 50 career major league innings and will be a longshot to win a bullpen spot in spring training. Tue, Dec 21, 2010 03:31:00 PM

Royals released RHP Ryan Braun.

Braun underwent Tommy John surgery in April and probably won't be ready for the start of 2009. The Royals could offer him a minor league deal to stick around. He had a 6.64 ERA in 39 1/3 innings for the club in 2007.

Royals recalled RHP Ryan Braun from Triple-A Omaha and placed him on the 60-day disabled list.

Braun is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery in April, but he'll now collect a big league salary while rehabbing thanks to the Royals needing to create space on the 40-man roster.

Royals optioned RHP Ryan Braun to Triple-A Omaha.

Braun made the Royals last spring and spent the majority of the season in the majors, but he pitched just two innings this spring. He needs to throw more strikes if he's going to be a factor on a deeper Royals pitching staff this year.

Braun had a better ERA than David Riske, Joel Peralta or Todd Wellemeyer, but he had walked eight in 9 1/3 innings. More Triple-A time won't hurt him at all.

Ryan Braun will begin the season in the Royals' bullpen.

A long shot to make the team when camp began, Braun posted 1.04 ERA in eight spring appearances to claim a job. "Braun is a little wild in the strike zone with good stuff," manager Buddy Bell said. "He is kind of effectively wild, but I think this kid has a chance to be pretty good. When he's good, he can throw a swing-and-miss breaking ball, but he's got to have more command of his fastball. We're going to try to manage through that, try to get him to the point he can get better at it. I think he deserves to be on our club. He pitched himself on the club."

Braun is a fine relief prospect, but it's doubtful he'll make the Royals coming out of spring training.

Royals purchased the contract of RHP Ryan Braun from Triple-A Omaha.

Braun, 26, had a 2.19 ERA and an 80/29 K/BB in 65 2/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A. The Royals think he'll become a setup man or maybe even a closer. However, he's not a very good bet for the short-term.
