Royals purchased the contract of RHP Juan Gutierrez from Triple-A Omaha.

The 29-year-old right-hander had an ugly 8.18 ERA in 11 innings this past season for Omaha. Gutierrez seems doubtful to crack the Royals' 2013 Opening Day roster.

Diamondbacks released RHP Juan Gutierrez.

Gutierrez underwent Tommy John surgery last month, and evidently the D'Backs didn't want to wait until 2013, when he will likely be ready to contribute again. The 28-year-old right-hander holds a career 4.79 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, but also an 8.2 K/9 rate. As a hard-thrower that won't hit free agency until 2015, some other team will give him a shot.

Juan Gutierrez will undergo Tommy John surgery on September 6.

Gutierrez was originally placed on the disabled list in late-May with right shoulder inflammation, but his elbow has emerged as the bigger issue. The 28-year-old right-hander will now be sidelined for most, if not all, of the 2012 season.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has revealed that Juan Gutierrez is also dealing with a sore elbow in addition to the shoulder ailment that landed him on the disabled list.

Gutierrez has been sidelined since mid-August and has yet to begin a throwing program. His return date is totally up in the air at this point.

Diamondbacks transferred RHP Juan Gutierrez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Gutierrez still isn't throwing due to lingering soreness in his right triceps. He registered a 5.40 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 18 1/3 innings for Arizona earlier this year.

Yet another setback for Gutierrez, who has been on the disabled list since late-May. The Diamondbacks likely weren't counting on him anyway, but look for them to be in the market for bullpen help as the trade deadline approaches.

Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) has been shut down from his throwing program due to a sore elbow.

It doesn't sound like a major setback, as Gutierrez will begin throwing again in a week. He's been out since late May and will surely need a rehab assignment before being activated.

He'll throw another simulated game on Sunday. If it goes well, he'll likely then go out on a short rehab assignment. If he doesn't have any setbacks, we're likely looking at an early July return.

If those go well, he'll likely be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Assuming he has no setbacks, Gutierrez should be ready to return in early July.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) and Sam Demel (shoulder) are still at least a couple weeks away from a return.

Demel is eligible to return on June 9, and Gutierrez is eligible on Jun 10, but Gibson thinks they'll each need at least an additional week on the DL. We should see them around the middle of the month.

An MRI taken Thursday on Juan Gutierrez's right shoulder revealed only inflammation.

The rotator cuff irritation and shoulder inflammation will be cleared up with a few weeks of rest. At least, that's what the Diamondbacks are hoping. Gutierrez seems likely to make it back by the middle of June.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Juan Gutierrez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Gutierrez first felt the soreness Tuesday while making a relief appearance against the Rockies. He will rest for a week and should be better by mid-June.
