Yohan Pino has been diagnosed with a minor strain in his right ulnar collateral ligament.
He suffered the injury during Saturday's spot start. Pino will be shut down for 2-4 weeks and is likely to miss the remainder of the season. It sounds like the Twins will hope he can heal with some rest, but Tommy John surgery is always a distinct possibility when there's UCL damage. Aug 24 - 1:56 PM

Yohan Pino earned his second win of the season, allowing four runs (one earned) as the Twins pounded their way to a 12-4 victory over the Tigers in the first game of Saturday's double-header.

Pino had a 9-1 lead after three innings, so there wasn't much he could have done to lose the game. The right-hander allowed six hits and a pair of walks while striking out six. Now with 11 starts under his belt, Pino owns a 5.07 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and a 50/14 K/BB ratio. He's likely headed back to Triple-A Rochester.
Aug 23 - 4:36 PM

Yohan Pino will be called up to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers.

Trevor May will pitch the second game. Pino owns a rough 5.37 ERA in 10 starts this season at the big league level and makes for a poor fantasy streamer versus Detroit.
Aug 21 - 11:55 AM

Twins optioned RHP Yohan Pino to Triple-A Rochester.

He's clearing room for Ricky Nolasco's (elbow) return from the DL. Pino, who holds a 5.37 ERA over 10 starts this season, could return to start during a doubleheader versus the Tigers next week.
Aug 15 - 5:43 PM

Yohan Pino allowed seven runs, including three home runs, over 4 1/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

Pino had given up five home runs in his first nine starts before Tuesday's disaster. The right-hander gave up seven hits and a walk in all, and he also struck out seven in the loss. Pino is now 1-5 and hasn't won a decision in a month, and a meeting with the first-place Royals on Monday doesn't offer much more promise.
Aug 12 - 11:42 PM

Yohan Pino allowed three runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the A's on Thursday.

Pino hung in there, but he was no match for a dealing Jon Lester. He came into the night 1-1 with a 6.28 ERA in three road outings, so this ho-hum outing was actually a step in the right direction. The 30-year-old rookie right-hander only has a rotation spot because the Twins continue to curiously suppress the service clocks of far more talented hurlers Trevor May and Alex Meyer. Pino takes on the Astros next week.
Aug 8 - 12:50 AM

Yohan Pino allowed two runs over six innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Sunday.

Pino turned in his third good start in his last four, lowering his ERA to 4.38. Pino walked one and struck out six. He remains 1-3 and isn't a factor outside of deep AL-only leagues. He'll face the same White Sox club on Saturday.
Jul 27 - 4:58 PM

Yohan Pino allowed four runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Indians on Tuesday.

Pino had limited his opponents to two runs in his final two starts before the break, but the 30-year-old failed to carry that momentum over to the second half. The right-hander gave up a home run to Carlos Santana among his seven hits allowed, but he didn't walk a batter while striking out five. Pino may stick around with the lack of better options currently in Minnesota, but he offers little in the way of fantasy upside.
Jul 22 - 11:47 PM

Twins recalled RHP Yohan Pino from Triple-A Rochester.

He'll get the start on Tuesday against the Indians. Pino has posted a 4.39 ERA and 19/7 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings over five starts with the Twins this season and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.
Jul 21 - 11:43 PM

Yohan Pino will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to start Tuesday against the Indians.

That was the expectation already, but it's now official. Pino, 30, owns a 4.39 ERA and 19/7 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings over five starts with the Twins this season and can be ignored outside of AL-only formats.
Jul 21 - 5:40 PM

Yohan Pino is expected to be recalled to start on Tuesday against the Indians.

The Twins have decided to keep Samuel Deduno in the bullpen rather than return him to the rotation. Pino struggled in his first three starts with the Twins but allowed just two runs over his last 11 innings before being optioned prior to the All-Star break.
Jul 20 - 12:03 PM

Twins optioned RHP Yohan Pino to Triple-A Rochester.

Pino struggled initially with the Twins but has rebounded the last two times out, yielding just two runs in 11 innings. He seems likely to rejoin the rotation after the All-Star break.
Jul 11 - 8:32 AM

Yohan Pino surrendered just one run over five innings to earn his first MLB victory over the Mariners on Thursday.

He allowed seven hits and two walks while notching four strikeouts. Pino is expected to be demoted to make room for Friday starter Kris Johnson, but he might have done enough in his past two starts to book a reservation in the rotation to begin the second half. Pino put up an ugly 6.32 ERA in his first three outings, but yielded just two runs in 11 innings over his last two. Pino is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 1.31 WHIP overall.
Jul 11 - 1:26 AM

Yohan Pino allowed just one run over six innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Saturday.

He allowed just three hits and two walks while notching three strikeouts. The only run scored on an RBI single from Francisco Cervelli in the fifth inning, but it was enough to cost him a chance at a win. Pino has been decent since coming up from the minors last month, posting a 4.98 ERA and 15/5 K/BB ratio in 21 2/3 innings over four starts. He's strictly an AL-only option.
Jul 5 - 5:27 PM

Yohan Pino gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Royals.

Pino has pitched effectively in just one of his three starts, leaving him 0-2 with a 6.32 ERA. Most likely, he won't get a fourth chance to impress. We'd rather see Kris Johnson get a look if the Twins remains set on keeping Alex Meyer in the minors (Trevor May, sidelined with a calf injury, isn't an option at the moment).
