Tigers signed C Mike Rabelo to a minor league contract.

The team also signed left-handers Ryan Ketchner, Macay McBride, Sam Narron and Jason Waddell, catchers Andy Bouchie and Robinzon Diaz, infielders Kory Casto, Cesar Nicolas and Jason Stokes and outfielder Ryan Patterson to minor league deals. All get invites to Spring Training. Rabelo, who turns 30 later this month, returns to the Tigers after being swapped to the Marlins in the Miguel Cabrera trade. He batted .202/.256/.294 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 109 at-bats with the Marlins in 2008, did not appear on the major league level last season.

Marlins sent catcher Mike Rabelo outright to Triple-A New Orleans.

Rabelo has options left, but no one thought he was worthy of a 40-man roster spot. He was in the running to be the Marlins' backup until Ronny Paulino was acquired.

Marlins optioned C Mike Rabelo and C Brett Hayes to Triple-A New Orleans; reassigned C Brad Davis, RHP Henry Owens and OF John Raynor to minor league camp.

In case there was any doubt, the Marlins made it clear they were going with Ronny Paulino as their backup by getting rid of everyone else who could have possibly done the job. Owens, who is making his way back from shoulder surgery, pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Raynor was 7-for-21 with a homer and three steals.

Marlins recalled catcher Mike Rabelo from Triple-A Albuquerque and placed him on the 60-day disabled list with a sprained right wrist.

Rabelo isn't expected back this month. The Marlins have three catchers on the roster anyway, but they still might opt to bring up Paul Hoover.

Mike Rabelo is unable to perform any baseball-related activities because of a right wrist sprain.

Marlins optioned catcher Mike Rabelo to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Acquired as part of the offseason blockbuster with the Tigers, Rabelo split time behind the plate with Matt Treanor initially, but played himself into a backup role by hitting just .202/.256/.294 in 122 plate appearances and now loses that gig to Paul Hoover.

Mike Rabelo went 2-for-4 with a game-tying two-run homer in the top of the ninth off the Braves' Manny Acosta on Wednesday.

Rabelo, who looked like the favorite for starts going into the season, has fallen into a backup role with Matt Treanor outhitting him, but the opportunity should be there for him to win back some playing time. He's hitting .227 with three homers and 10 RBI in 88 at-bats.

Mike Rabelo went 3-for-3 Friday with an RBI.

The Marlins manufactured three runs on a fielder's choice, sacrifice fly, and Mike Rabelo RBI single in the top of the tenth to beat the Brewers 3-0. They face Carlos Villanueva on Saturday who's 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA in four starts.

Marlins activated catcher Mike Rabelo from the 15-day disabled list.

Matt Treanor has hit .269/.296/.308 in 26 at-bats so far. The two were expected to split time pretty evenly before Rabelo hurt his knee, and that's probably what will happen now. However, if someone is going to win the job outright, it's more likely to be Rabelo.

Mike Rabelo (knee) went 0-for-3 in his start for Single-A Brevard County on Thursday.

Rabelo needs some at-bats, so he could spend a week in the minors before coming off the disabled list.

Marlins placed catcher Mike Rabelo on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with a sprained left knee.

Rabelo will miss at least the first week and possibly the first half of April. The Marlins will go with Paul Hoover as Matt Treanor's backup for now.

Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez estimated that Mike Rabelo wouldn't return until after April 5.

Rabelo is eligible to come of his backdated DL stint on that day, but the team clearly feels he'll need a little more time. Matt Treanor should see most of the work until he returns.

MIke Rabelo will likely begin the season on the disabled list.

Rabelo hasn't played since injuring his knee in a collision at home plate nearly two weeks ago. ''There has been improvement [with Rabelo], but I don't know if there will be enough improvement in the next five days to carry him on the club,'' Gonzalez said. Matt Treanor, who played for the first time since March 12, appears likely to start on Opening Night.

Mike Rabelo (knee) said Thursday that he may begin the season on the disabled list.

Rabelo was injured in a home plate collision on March 13 and an MRI showed a sprain with a slight tear. "I haven't spoken to anybody about it, but yeah, that would be a possibility," Rabelo said. "I haven't played in a week. We're going to see how the knee feels and what they want to do." If placed on the DL retroactively, Rabelo could return as soon as April 5.
