He earned a spot after batting .313/.327/.563 during Cactus League play. Lillibridge is expected to receive the bulk of the playing time at second base while Darwin Barney is out.

Brent Lillibridge went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored in Monday's 5-2 win over the Padres.

Lillibridge is now hitting .458 (13-for-28) with six extra-base hits this spring and appears a lock for a roster spot. He should be an active member of Chicago's bench and could have some value in deep NL-only leagues because of his multi-position eligibility.

Cubs signed OF Brent Lillbridge to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Lillibridge hit just .195/.250/.274 in 209 plate appearances last season between the White Sox, Red Sox and Indians. He'll act as organizational depth for Chicago.

Lillibridge was outrighted off the Indians' 40-man roster and refused a minor league assignment. Coming off a disappointing 2012, he could struggle to find a guaranteed contract this offseason.

He has the option of refusing the assignment and declaring free agency. After a surprising 2011, Lillibridge fell flat in 2012, batting an ugly .195/.250/.274 with three different teams.

Lillibridge didn't hit his first homer of the year until Saturday, but now he has two in three days. The Indians will ride his hot hand, so he's worth playing in AL-only leagues for now.

Brent Lillibridge exacted revenge on the Red Sox on Saturday, going 3-for-3 with a solo homer in the Indians' 5-2 victory.

He also doubled, scored twice and drove home two runs. Lillibridge was acquired by the Red Sox in the Kevin Youkilis deal, then subsequently flipped to the Indians after just 16 at-bats with Boston. He was able to punish his former club in this one.

Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com reports that the Red Sox have traded utility man Brent Lillibridge to the Indians for minor league right-hander Jose De La Torre.

Lillibridge, who was acquired from the White Sox in the Kevin Youkilis deal, was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week. The versatile 28-year-old is batting .165 (13-for-79) with one double, two RBI and seven stolen bases this season. De La Cruz, a 26-year-old reliever, has a 2.86 ERA over parts of six seasons in the minors, averaging 9.4 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9.

Lillibridge managed no walks, just two hits, and struck out five times in 16 plate appearances with Boston after being acquired from the White Sox in a package for third baseman Kevin Youkilis. The 28-year-old utilityman could draw some interest on waivers.

White Sox traded UTIL Brent Lillibridge and RHP Zach Stewart to the Red Sox for 3B Kevin Youkilis and cash.

Lillibridge is a nice addition to Boston's bench, as he is a good defensive outfielder who can play all over the diamond, though he is stretched at second and especially shortstop. After a superb 2011 in which he batted .258/.340/.505 with 13 homers in 186 at-bats, the utility man's bat has regressed to whence it came, hitting .175 with no power this year. His fantasy outlook isn't altered much with the change of address, though that could change if a plague comes down on Boston's outfield again.

Brent Lillibridge earned a rare start on Thursday, but fell flat with an 0-for-4 performance against the Orioles.

He fanned three times, and is now hitless in nine at-bats on the season. Expect him to return to pinch-running and pinch-hitting duties this weekend.
