Darren Ford (concussion) was medically cleared to fly back with Triple-A Fresno to attend the team's home opener Friday.

Good to hear. Ford was involved in a scary play Thursday when he made a head-first dive into the left field wall in a game against Salt Lake, but he's managed to escape serious injury. He'll be placed on Fresno's disabled list but it sounds like he'll make a full recovery.

Darren Ford was diagnosed with a concussion and abrasion after leaving a game at Triple-A Fresno on a stretcher when he made a head-first dive into the left field wall.

It was a scary scene, but thankfully Ford was cleared of any further injuries and has already been released from the hospital. He'll be placed on Fresno's disabled list and it's not clear how long he'll be sidelined.

Giants signed OF Darren Ford to a minor league contract.

The 28-year-old outfielder previously spent four years in the Giants organization from 2008-2011. He spent the 2013 season at Triple-A Indianapolis where he slashed .230/.307/.301 with two homers, 19 RBI and 29 stolen bases. He's nothing more than organizational depth at the moment.

The 27-year-old outfielder hit .273/.326/.385 with four homers, 33 RBI and 26 stolen bases in 70 games at Triple-A Tacoma during the 2012 season. One of the fastest players in all of baseball, Ford will compete for a reserve outfielder role with the Pirates.

Mariners signed OF Darren Ford to a minor league contract.

Ford became a free agent after being designated for assignment by the Giants last month. The 26-year-old speedster batted .286 (4-for-14) and went 7-for-12 in stolen base attempts over 26 games at the major league level this season. He could stick as an extra outfielder.

Giants recalled OF Darren Ford from Double-A Richmond.

Ford is the owner of just 10 career MLB at-bats. He's had an uninspiring year in the minors, hitting .265/.340/.370 in 205 plate appearances between three levels of play. He figures to be used mostly as a pinch runner.

Giants activated OF Darren Ford from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Fresno.

This is mostly a procedural move, as Ford is already playing with Triple-A Fresno. The speedy outfielder originally landed on the disabled list with a sprained left ankle in late-May.

Darren Ford (ankle) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday at Triple-A Fresno.

Ford will play five innings in the outfield in his first rehab game. The 25-year-old has been sidelined since late May with a sprained left ankle and is likely to remain in the minor leagues once he returns to full health.

Darren Ford's (ankle) recovery is coming along slowly.

Ford recently had to get a cortisone shot in his ankle to reduce the swelling. Speed is his one tool, so the Giants will make sure the ankle is 100 percent before activating him. He's out indefinitely.

Giants placed OF Darren Ford on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 23, with a left ankle sprain.

As expected. Ford was diagnosed with a lateral sprain of his left ankle and wasn't of much use to the Giants at less than 100 percent. The speedy outfielder has three hits in 10 at-bats this season to go along with five stolen bases in eight attempts.

Darren Ford (ankle) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Ford underwent an MRI on Wednesday which revealed a lateral sprain of his left ankle. He suffered the injury on a slide into home plate on Sunday against the Athletics. Brandon Belt is expected to replace the speedster on the active roster.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Darren Ford (ankle) might be headed to the disabled list.

The pinch-runner extraordinaire is nursing an ankle injury, and if he can't run close to 100 percent, he doesn't serve much purpose on the roster. Bochy said he considers Brandon Belt to be a "longshot" for a call-up to replace Ford.

Darren Ford (ankle) is likely unavailable off the bench Tuesday.

Ford is considered day-to-day with a sprained ankle and Giants manager Bruce Bochy would like to avoid using him for at least a day, if possible. The speedy outfielder has been used mainly as a pinch-runner, as he's stolen five bases and scored six runs despite receiving just 10 at-bats.
