Astros avoided arbitration with LHP Wesley Wright by agreeing to a one-year contract.
The financials are not yet available. Wright had a breakout year in 2012, putting up a 3.27 ERA while striking out over a batter per inning. He'll be used as a lefty specialist again for the Astros in 2013. Jan 18 - 2:39 PM

Astros recalled LHP Wesley Wright from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

This will be Wright's third straight season of decreasing action for the Astros, as he's pitched just two innings for the team thus far. He needs a strong showing the rest of the way if he expects to remain on the 40-man roster this winter. The 2.07 ERA in 65 1/3 innings for Oklahome City rates as somewhat encouraging.

Astros optioned LHP Wesley Wright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He was cleared to make room for Wednesday's starter Henry Sosa on the active roster. Wright, 26, was just called up from the minors over the weekend and gave up one run on two hits over two innings during his brief time with the big club.

Astros recalled LHP Wesley Wright from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Wright was with the Astros for a short period of time last month but didn't appear in a game. He has had a nice year at Triple-A, boasting a 2.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 47/23 K/BB ratio over 59 innings. He'll give the 'Stros another left-handed arm in the pen.

Astros optioned LHP Wesley Wright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He was sent out to make room for the return of Matt Downs. Wright didn't make an appearance during his brief stay with the team.

Astros recalled LHP Wesley Wright from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The 26-year-old southpaw has a 5.33 ERA over 134 major league appearances, so there isn't a ton of upside here. He leaves behind a 2.62 ERA in 48 innings at Oklahoma City.

Astros recalled LHP Wesley Wright from Triple-A Round Rock.

The 25-year-old southpaw has a 6.28 ERA and 23/11 K/BB ratio in 10 appearances (four starts) with the Astros this season. The 25-year-old southpaw has a 5.44 ERA over 130 major league appearances, so there isn't a ton of immediate upside here. We hope the Astros look elsewhere for an extra starter down the stretch.

Astros optioned LHP Wesley Wright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Wright doesn't really do enough of anything to be an impact fantasy arm. He was optioned to make room for Mark Melancon, who came over to the Astros from the Yankees in the Lance Berkman trade.

Wesley Wright was rocked for seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings against the Brewers on Sunday.

Wright got by with smoke and mirrors in his last outing against the Brewers, but Milwaukee took advantage of facing the southpaw in back-to-back outings. Wright managed to keep the ball in the park today, but he also walked four and gave up five hits that included a pair of doubles. Since he doesn't have any long-term potential in the rotation, the Astros are better off auditioning other arms for 2011 and beyond.

Wesley Wright was shaky Monday, allowing four runs over five innings in a loss to the Cubs.

The left-hander gave up eight hits and walked one, requiring 93 pitches to complete five frames. The Astros stretched Wright out as a starter this spring after he made 120 relief appearances for them over the previous two seasons. They have given him a couple starts even though he hadn't fared that well as a starter at Triple-A, and the results with the big club haven't been any better. Wright's scheduled start this weekend in Milwaukee might be up in the air.

Wesley Wright will get another start for the Astros with Brian Moehler still bothered by injury.

Wright struggled in his first major league start Tuesday, allowing six runs (one earned) over 4 2/3 innings against the Cubs. He'll face the Cubbies again in his second start. The southpaw can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

In his first major league start, Wesley Wright gave up six runs -- one earned -- over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Tuesday night.

Wright entered the fifth with a 7-1 lead, but an error by Jeff Keppinger opened the floodgates for the Cubs to plate five unearned runs. It's not like Wright was completely innocent, as he gave up three hits, a walk and hit a batter, but it was a sloppy inning all around. Wright took Felipe Paulino's place in the rotation on Tuesday, but he could be back in the minor leagues once Brian Moehler is ready to return from the disabled list. He's not worth a look in fantasy leagues.

Astros recalled LHP Wesley Wright from Triple-A Round Rock.

Wright has pitched exclusively in relief for the 'Stros the last three seasons, which includes six appearances earlier this year with the big club. But he was sent down to Triple-A to be stretched out to start and holds a 4.18 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 13 starts. The southpaw will start for the team Tuesday and has a chance to stick with Felipe Paulino and Brian Moehler on the DL, but you should keep your expectations low.

Wesley Wright will be called up from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday to make a spot start against the Cubs.

Felipe Paulino was scheduled to return, but he is still feeling discomfort in his shoulder and might not return for another few weeks. If Wright pitches well he may be allowed to stick around for a while. But we wouldn't count on that happening. He has a 1.47 WHIP in 13 starts at Triple-A.

Astros optioned LHP Wesley Wright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Wright was cleared to make room for Chris Sampson's return from the DL. The 25-year-old left-hander has a 5.59 over six relief appearances with the Astros this season.
