The Pirates made that announcement on Saturday night while confirming that the 27-year-old right-hander has been released. VandenHurk pitched very well for the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate in 2012, posting a 2.92 ERA and 113/35 K/BB ratio in 123 1/3 innings of work. The Indians claimed VandenHurk off waivers from the Blue Jays last month, but he failed to make the team and will now be looking to catch on elsewhere. The 26-year-old right-hander was a decent prospect at one time, and he wasn't bad at Triple-A last year, so he shouldn't have trouble netting a minor league deal.

Although he allowed nine runs -- eight earned -- over nine innings at the major league level in 2011, VandenHurk has a pretty nice minor league track record and is only 26. He should have no trouble catching on somewhere.

VandenHurk was designated for assignment last week after allowing nine runs -- eight earned -- over nine innings at the major league level in 2011. Assuming he isn't claimed by another team, his release should become official by Friday.

Rick VandenHurk allowed five runs -- four earned -- over three innings Tuesday against the Red Sox.

He didn't factor into the decision, but his Orioles scored three runs in the eighth to steal the victory. The 26-year-old right-hander has an 8.00 ERA and 2.22 WHIP in limited action this year and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
