Yankees released LHP Clay Rapada.

Rapada was designated for assignment over the weekend. The 32-year-old dealt with a shoulder injury during spring training, but he shouldn't have much trouble drawing interest. He should make for a useful left-handed specialist if healthy.

Yankees designated LHP Clay Rapada for assignment.

Rapada is dealing with a shoulder injury and was expected to open the season on the disabled list, but the Yankees needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for Lyle Overbay. If healthy, Rapada could draw interest as a left-handed specialist.
Mar 31 - 4:54 PM

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he expects Clay Rapada (shoulder) to begin the season on the disabled list.

Rapada has been dealing with shoulder bursitis for a couple weeks, and although he's resumed playing catch, he just doesn't have enough time to get ready. Luckily for the Yankees, it appears that Boone Logan (elbow) will be ready.
Mar 22 - 8:22 AM

Clay Rapada, who was shut down nearly two weeks with left shoulder bursitis, has resumed playing catch.

While the left-hander doesn't need many spring innings to get himself ready for Opening Day, his status remains in question. Rapada registered a stellar 2.82 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 38/17 K/BB ratio over 70 appearances with the Yankees in 2012. He's nothing more than a left-handed specialist, though, and holds no value in most fantasy leagues.
Mar 19 - 9:04 PM

Clay Rapada will be sidelined for the next 7-10 days with left shoulder bursitis.

Relievers only need a handful of spring appearances to get properly tuned up for the start of the regular season, so this isn't a major concern yet. But it will become one if Rapada is still feeling discomfort in a week.
Mar 7 - 4:08 PM

Clay Rapada allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings of relief Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

It was his first appearance since being diagnosed Monday with a viral infection. Rapada has registered a 3.97 ERA and 8/8 K/BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings this year.

Clay Rapada left Monday's game against the Orioles in the sixth inning due to a viral infection.

Rapada replaced the injured Ivan Nova (foot, ankle) and got Chris Davis to line out and walked Nick Johnson before exiting. He should be fine in the next day or so.

Yankees purchased the contract of LHP Clay Rapada from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Rapada allowed just one run over 10 innings this spring while fanning 13 and walking five. He'll function as a second left-hander out of the Bombers' bullpen.

Yankees signed LHP Clay Rapada to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Rapada, 30, is expected to compete for the Hideki Okajima role with the Yankees after Okajima failed his physical and was released earlier this week. He remains a longshot to make the 40-man roster.

According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, the Yankees are close to signing Clay Rapada to a minor league contract with invitation to spring training.

The Orioles released Rapada earlier this week in order to make room for Matt Lindstrom on their 40-man roster. He'll likely operate as a lefty specialist with the Yankees in spring training.
