LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Jared Burton wants to return to the majors in 2017.
Burton didn't pitch in 2016 after being suspended 50 games last January for a second positive test for a drug of abuse. He'll have to settle for a minor league contract, as there doesn't figure to be much of a market for a 35-year-old who hasn't pitched well in the majors since 2013. Dec 9 - 6:02 PM

Major League Baseball suspended RHP Jared Burton 50 games for a second positive test for a drug of abuse.

Burton is currently a free agent and is obviously now going to have a tougher path to employment. The 34-year-old posted a 2.25 ERA across 16 relief appearances in the minors last season.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that veteran right-hander Jared Burton plans to pitch in 2016 and has at least five teams showing interest in him.

The 34-year-old was released by the Rangers in late June after posting a 0.90 ERA and 0.70 WHIP over 10 innings at Triple-A Round Rock, but was unable to find a better opportunity elsewhere so he sat out the remainder of the season. He could be a nice bullpen addition on an incentive-laden minor league deal.

Rangers released RHP Jared Burton.

Burton signed a minor league deal with the Rangers about a month ago and posted a 0.90 ERA and 11/3 K/BB ratio over 10 innings with Triple-A Round Rock. The 34-year-old asked for his release and apparently hopes to find a better opportunity elsewhere.

Rangers signed RHP Jared Burton to a minor league contract.

Burton allowed three runs over four relief innings with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate before being cut loose. The soon-to-be 34-year-old held a 4.36 ERA out of the Twins' bullpen last season and is a decent depth addition.

Yankees re-signed RHP Jared Burton to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Burton was just released on Thursday but is now back in camp. It's an unusual occurrence, but it's not a surprise that Burton didn't take long to find work -- even if it's at the same place he had been. The veteran reliever has been dealing with a strained lat but played catch on Sunday. He's likely to make the team but begin the season on the disabled list.

Yankees released RHP Jared Burton.

Burton strained his lat on March 19, ending any outside shot he had at making the Yankees' Opening Day roster. He was in camp on a non-guaranteed minors deal.

Jared Burton has been diagnosed with a strained lat.

Burton was already on the outside looking in for an Opening Day bullpen spot, and now it looks like he may be headed for the disabled list. The 33-year-old right-hander signed a minor league contract with the Yankees in February after posting a 4.36 ERA and 46/25 K/BB ratio in 64 innings for the Twins last season.

Jared Burton will receive a $2 million base salary if he makes the Yankees.

He could make an additional $750,000 with incentives. Burton had a mediocre 4.36 ERA and 46/25 K/BB ratio over 64 innings with the Twins last season, but he's a nice gamble on a minor league deal.

Yankees signed RHP Jared Burton to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

After a couple of impressive seasons out of the Twins' bullpen, Burton regressed to the tune of a 4.36 ERA and 46/25 K/BB ratio over 64 innings last season and was unable to find a major league deal. The 33-year-old will attempt to win a spot in New York's bullpen this spring.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that free agent reliever Jared Burton continues to talk with multiple teams.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reported the same thing a week ago, but Burton has yet to make a decision about where to sign. The 33-year-old posted a 4.36 ERA and 46/25 K/BB ratio over 64 innings with the Twins last season.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that Jared Burton "has been in contact with multiple interested teams."

He has not, however, made a decision on where to sign yet. Burton posted a 4.36 ERA and 46/25 K/BB ratio over 64 innings last season for the Twins, but he pitched well the previous two seasons and would make a fine middle relief option for someone.
Fri, Jan 30, 2015 01:22:00 PM

Twins declined RHP Jared Burton's $3.6 million club option for 2015.

Burton will receive a $200,000 buyout and hit free agency. It's an expected move after he posted a mediocre 4.36 ERA and 46/25 K/BB ratio over 64 innings this past season.

Jared Burton picked up his third save of the season in Wednesday's defeat of the Diamondbacks.

Burton yielded a two-out double to Jordan Pacheco but was able to work around that threat to preserve Minnesota's one-run lead. Burton is filling in at closer for Glen Perkins, who is done for the season because of left elbow and forearm troubles.

Jared Burton will remain in the closer role for the series against the Diamondbacks.

Burton hasn't had any save chances since Glen Perkins (elbow) went down, but Twins manager Ron Gardenhire still sees him at the top of the pecking order. He'll look for other spots to use Michael Tonkin and Lester Oliveros.
