Rays optioned 1B Juan Miranda to Triple-A Durham.

Miranda stood only an outside shot of landing a bench job after batted .213/.315/.402 in 65 games last season for the Diamondbacks. He'll serve as depth this year.

Rays signed 1B Juan Miranda to a minor league contract.

Miranda, 28, hit just .213/.315/.402 with seven home runs and 23 RBI in 65 games for the Diamondbacks in 2011 and didn't do much in his time at Triple-A, either. He's not a bad guy to have for depth purposes. Miranda will get a spring training invite, but it's unlikely he'd have a real shot to win the first base job.

Diamondbacks sent 1B Juan Miranda outright to Triple-A Reno.

Miranda, 28, hit just .213/.315/.402 with seven home runs and 23 RBI in 65 games for the Diamondbacks, at times serving as the team's primary first baseman. He could climb his way back to the major leagues at some point later this season.

Juan Miranda went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Indians on Wednesday.

That's four straight hitless games for Miranda. Xavier Nady isn't doing much of anything either, so we're wondering if the Diamondbacks might not make a switch at first base this weekend. Paul Goldschmidt and Brandon Allen are both candidates to take over.

Starting for the first time in three games, Juan Miranda went 0-for-4 and struck out twice on Thursday.

Manager Kirk Gibson has done nothing but jerk Miranda around all year, and it's probably going to take a prolonged hot streak for that to change. Given that Miranda doesn't have a whole lot of upside, there's always the chance the Diamondbacks will simply bail on him and try Paul Goldschmidt instead.

Juan Miranda (neck) went 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in his return to the lineup Sunday.

Miranda sat out three straight games with a sore neck before returning to the Arizona batting order on Sunday afternoon. The 28-year-old has a .795 OPS, five home runs and 16 RBI in just 112 at-bats this season.

Though he isn't in the starting lineup Friday, Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Juan Miranda (neck) is available off the bench.

Miranda tweaked his neck Wednesday night in a collision with pitcher Daniel Hudson. He should be ready to return to the starting lineup Saturday.

Juan Miranda's status for Arizona's Friday tilt with the Nationals remains unclear after he was a late scratch with a sore neck on Thursday.

He suffered the injury in a collision with pitcher Daniel Hudson on Wednesday when they were chasing after a foul ball. "They both hit the ground hard," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He had something with his neck. We knew about it last night, but we thought he'd be OK." Going by Gibson's tone, it wouldn't be surprising if Miranda gets another day off on Friday. His status will be updated later this evening.

Juan Miranda was a late scratch from Thursday's game against the Nationals due to an illness.

Xavier Nady will start at first base in his place. Miranda is batting .243/.357/.467 with five home runs this season and should be back in action Friday or Saturday.

Juan Miranda erupted on Friday evening, homering twice and driving in four runs in Arizona's 7-6 win over the Astros.

He took Brett Myers deep for a two-run shot in the fifth inning before tagging him for another two-run bomb in the sixth. The multi-homer game was the first of his career, and brings his season home run total to five. With Russell Branyan now out of the picture in Arizona, Miranda is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.

Juan Miranda went 0-for-3 with a walk in his return to the lineup Thursday.

Miranda hadn't played since Sunday due to lingering soreness in his hand after he was hit by a pitch. It appears he should be good to go moving forward.

Juan Miranda (hand) could be ready to return to the lineup Thursday.

Miranda was hit by a pitch on Sunday and was a late scratch Tuesday. He felt much improved Wednesday but sat out again. "I feel like I'll be ready to play [Thursday]," Miranda said. "It was a little bit sore, but right now it feels much better." The first baseman has been swinging a hot bat of late with nine hits in his last 18 at-bats.

Juan Miranda was scratched from the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies because of a sore right hand.

Miranda was in the original version of the lineup. He left Sunday's win over the Twins in the eighth inning after being hit on the right wrist by a pitch. Consider him day-to-day.

Juan Miranda left Sunday's win over the Twins in the eighth inning after being hit on the right wrist by a pitch.

Before leaving, Miranda hit a solo homer off Francisco Liriano in the fourth inning. He'll have NL-only viability if this wrist injury proves to be minor.
