Munenori Kawasaki went 0-for-1 with a walk in Thursday's win against the Rangers.
Known for his personality and defensive prowess, and not his bat, Kawasaki holds no fantasy value outside of the deepest AL-only leagues. He's batting .214 with no homers and seven steals in 50 games. Jun 14 - 3:18 AM

Munenori Kawasaki had three hits, including the game-winning two-run double, in Sunday's win over the Orioles.

The light-hitting infielder came into the game batting only .228, but he upped his mark to a more respectable .247 after today's showing. Kawasaki's two-out game-winning double into the left-center field gap finished off a four-run ninth inning against Orioles closer Jim Johnson.

Munenori Kawasaki's seventh-inning sacrifice fly plated the Blue Jays' lone run in Saturday's loss to the Mariners.

Kawasaki has been playing on a near-daily basis since Jose Reyes was placed on the DL and has struggled to hold his own, hitting .216/.306/.275 with no homers, four RBI and three stolen bases. His potential for steals makes him a somewhat appealing option as a middle infielder in deeper fantasy leagues, but owners can expect to be disappointed with the other aspects of his game.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of INF Munenori Kawasaki from Triple-A Buffalo.

Kawasaki will replace Jose Reyes (ankle) on the active roster, but is strictly being promoted as depth. The 31-year-old posted an abysmal .192/.257/.202 batting line over 61 games with the Mariners last season.
Apr 13 - 2:45 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports the Blue Jays will call up infielder Munenori Kawasaki to take the place of Jose Reyes (ankle) on the active roster.

The Blue Jays are expected to use a combination of Maicer Izturis and Emilio Bonifacio to replace Reyes, so Kawasaki will serve as middle infield depth in the short-term. Rosenthal also expects the Blue Jays to have interest in trading for Josh Wilson or the recently DFA'd Cody Ransom.
Apr 13 - 9:02 AM

According to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays are showing interest in free agent infielder Munenori Kawasaki.

The 31-year-old posted an abysmal .192/.257/.202 line over 61 games with the Mariners in his first taste of MLB action in 2012. If there is mutual interest, Kawasaki could compete for a reserve infielder role with the Jays.
Feb 16 - 11:21 PM

Mariners released INF Munenori Kawasaki.

The 31-year-old infielder signed a minor league contract with the Mariners last winter then posted a putrid .192/.257/.202 batting line in 115 plate appearances. Kawasaki seems likely to head back to Japan.

Munenori Kawasaki went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Monday's loss to the Orioles.

Kawasaki surprisingly accounted for the bulk of the Mariners' offense against Chris Tillman. Its possible he could play himself into more playing time. More likely, he'll be back in a reserve role when Brendan Ryan is healthy enough to return.

Munenori Kawasaki went 2-for-3 with a three-run double Monday in the Mariners' 8-6 win over the Angels.

The double more than doubled Kawasaki's RBI total as a major leaguer; he entered the day with a .158 average and two RBI in 38 at-bats. The Mariners could consider increasing his playing time with Brendan Ryan struggling so mightily at the plate, but it's not at all likely Kawasaki would outhit Ryan in the long run.

Munenori Kawasaki is batting just .133/.235/.133 through his first 17 MLB plate appearances.

Kawasaki was signed to a minor league contract this winter and was able to crack the Mariners' Opening Day roster. But it's probably not meant to last. The 30-year-old had a weak .636 OPS last season in Japan and the M's already have ample glove-first types.

Mariners purchased the contract of INF Munenori Kawasaki.

Kawasaki earned a spot on the Mariners' bench after hitting .387 (12-for-31) with 10 RBI and two stolen bases this spring. The 30-year-old had a .636 OPS last season in Japan and is more known for his glove than the bat, so he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Munenori Kawasaki smacked three hits in five at-bats on Tuesday against the Reds.

He added a run and an RBI, giving him five and nine, respectively. Lacking power, he has nonetheless earned the right to become part of the Opening Day roster conversation, as he is now batting .367 through 11 games.
Wed, Mar 21, 2012 05:41:00 AM

Munenori Kawasaki has looked sharp at the plate so far, batting .429 with eight RBI in 19 spring at-bats.

The 30-year-old has hit safely in seven straight games. However, his upside is severely limited, so take his quick start with a grain of salt at this stage.

Mariners signed SS Munenori Kawasaki to a minor league contract.

Kawasaki carries a strong defensive reputation, but he batted just .267 with a .636 OPS last season for the Softbank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball. He's a longshot to make the Mariners' Opening Day roster and probably won't ever be a regular here in the states.

Japanese infielder Munenori Kawasaki is expected to sign a minor-league contract with the Mariners by end of week, Larry Stone of the Seattle Times reports.

At a news conference last month, Kawasaki said the only MLB team he wanted to play for was the Mariners. He'll get his wish, but is no lock to make the Opening Day roster. The light-hitting shortstop batted .267 last season for Japan's Softbank Hawks (with one homer and a .647 OPS in 603 at-bats), but cleared the .300 plateau in three of his previous four seasons. Kawasaki, 30, has a ceiling of a utility player.
