Third baseman Jeimer Candelario was sent down in the corresponding move. Kawasaki earned the call-up by hitting .271 with 11 steals over 61 appearances for Iowa. The fan favorite will play a utility role for the Cubs.

Kawasaki had already been sent out to minor league camp, but this move adds him to the 40-man roster. He'll provide organizational depth at Triple-A. Cubs manager Joe Maddon has stated that we will probably see the fun-loving middle infielder on the north side of Chicago at some point this summer.
