Padres signed 1B/OF Jamie Romak to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Romak made it up to the majors briefly with the Diamondbacks in 2015 before spending 2016 in Japan. He's now back in the states and will be a long shot to crack the Padres' Opening Day roster.

Romak has hit just .147 with a .422 OPS in his first 11 games this season at the Triple-A level and is 26 years old, but he slugged 23 home runs at Double-A in 2011. The Cardinals will hope for a big turnaround.

Romak, 26, batted .251/.343/.460 with 23 home runs, 71 RBI and an .803 OPS over 505 plate appearances with Double-A Northwest Arkansas this season while splitting time between first base and DH. He'll continue to ply his trade at the minor league level in 2012.

Royals signed OF Jamie Romak to a minor league contract.

Romak comes from the Pirates system, in which he hit for a terrible line of .191/.265/.313 across high-A Lynchburg and Double-A Altoona. The 23-year old is just one year removed from an .862 total OPS at the same levels in 2008, so can't be written off just yet.
