Giants activated RHP Erik Cordier from the 15-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.

Cordier is over his forearm injury, but the Giants decided they had a better use for a 40-man roster spot. The 29-year-old has control issues but had touch the upper-90s with his fastball, so there could be some interest in him on waivers.
May 17 - 1:19 PM

Erik Cordier (forearm) will make a minor league rehab start with Triple-A San Jose on Thursday.

Cordier is battling back from a strained right forearm that has sidelined him for the past few weeks. He should only need a couple of minor league appearances before becoming an option for the Giants bullpen.
Apr 16 - 6:18 PM

Erik Cordier (forearm) has resumed throwing off a mound.

He'll be cleared to face hitters soon. Cordier first dealt with his forearm issue a few weeks ago, but he feels like he's turned the corner and shouldn't be out much longer.
Apr 6 - 7:14 PM

Giants placed RHP Erik Cordier on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27, with a right forearm strain.

Cordier has reported improvement in recent days and hopes to resume throwing soon. He's expected to function in a middle relief role with the Giants once he's able to return, which should be in mid-April.
Apr 5 - 4:17 PM

Erik Cordier is currently sidelined with a grade two forearm strain.

Cordier noted that he has been improving with treatment in recent days and hopes to resume throwing soon. The 29-year-old hurler is competing for a middle relief job in the Giants bullpen this spring.
Mar 21 - 12:48 PM

Giants recalled RHP Erik Cordier from Triple-A Fresno.

This is the first call-up to the big leagues for Cordier. The 28-year-old had a 3.59 ERA and 68/31 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings this season in Triple-A. Control is an issue for him, but he has a big arm and misses bats.

Giants signed RHP Erik Cordier to a one-year contract.

Cordier, 27, has a 4.29 ERA over eight minor league seasons. The right-handed reliever made 44 appearances in 2013 at Triple-A Indianapolis (Pirates), posting a 4.58 ERA and 65/28 K/BB ratio over 53 innings of work. The Giants will give him a shot at a bullpen job.

Pirates signed RHP Erik Cordier to a minor league contract.

He also gets a spring training invite. Cordier, who turns 27 in February, posted an ugly 5.85 ERA in 32 1/3 innings this past season in the Braves' minor league system.

Braves sent RHP Erik Cordier outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Cordier is now off Atlanta's 40-man roster. The 26-year-old righty had an ugly 5.85 ERA in 32 1/3 innings this past season in the Braves' minor league system.

Braves optioned RHP Erik Cordier to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Cordier allowed two runs (one earned) over 4 1/3 innings this spring while striking out three and walking one. The 26-year-old right-hander had a 5.14 ERA and 65/51 K/BB ratio over 20 starts between Double- and Triple-A last year. There's little chance the 2004 second-round pick makes it as a starter at this point, but a move to the bullpen could give him a shot.

Braves prospect right-hander Erik Cordier recently underwent a procedure on his right elbow.

According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Dr. James Andrews cleaned some "debris" from Cordier's right elbow. As a result, he will be a little behind to begin spring training. Cordier, who turns 25 in February, posted a 3.82 ERA over 143 2/3 innings between Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett last season, averaging 7.3 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9. The former second-round pick has mostly been a starting pitcher in the minor leagues, but he probably profiles best as a reliever in the long-term.

Braves purchased the contract of RHP Erik Cordier from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Cordier has been a starter throughout his minor league career but better profiles as a potential setup man. He can reach the mid-90s with his fastball but has a 4.8 BB/9 rate during his minor league career.

Braves acquired RHP Erik Cordier from the Royals for shortstop Tony Pena Jr.

Give the master a big edge over his protege on this one. Pena had no place in Atlanta's future plans and was out of options, so he was a goner anyway. Cordier, a 2004 second-round pick, has to make a successful comeback from Tommy John surgery, but with his ability to reach the mid-90s with his fastball, the potential is there for him to develop into a middle-of-the-rotation starter or, more likely, a setup man. He doesn't figure to see the majors before 2009.
