Red Sox signed RHP Erik Cordier to a minor league contract.
Cordier spent the 2016 campaign plying his trade in Japan with the Nippon Professional Baseball League. That stint failed to prove particularly memorable, as he saw limited work (10 runs on 11 hits in 12 1/3 innings) with the Orix Buffaloes. Now, back to the States with the Sox. Cordier will turn 31 at the end of February and has not pitched in the majors since 2015. He has just 18 1/3 career frames of work under his belt at the big league level. Marlins signed RHP Erik Cordier to a minor league contract.

Cordier was released by the Giants on August 1. He's posted some strong numbers in the minors this season, pitching to a 0.90 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 53/26 K/BB ratio across 40 total innings between Double-A and Triple-A. The Giants only released him because he held an opt-out clause in his contract and they couldn't find a place for him in the major league pen. He should see time with the Marlins in the future, especially given the strong numbers.
