Giants general manager Bobby Evans said Tuesday that Gorkys Hernandez is looking at hamate bone surgery.
Hernandez dealt with a wrist injury in September and apparently it's of the hamate bone variety. Assuming he requires surgery, Hernandez should have plenty of time to heal during the offseason. The 30-year-old appeared in 128 games with the Giants this season while batting just .255/.327/.326 with zero homers and 12 steals. Oct 3 - 3:03 PM

Gorkys Hernandez finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

The three hits were his most in a single game since a four-hit performance July 14 in San Diego. He entered the game with just three hits over 28 at-bats (.107) in the month of September, so he obviously has little fantasy appeal heading into the final week of the regular season.
Sep 24 - 2:36 AM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Gorkys Hernandez (wrist) is available off the bench on Sunday.

The Giants had feared that his wrist injury would sideline him for the remainder of the season, but Hernandez has shown significant improvement the last couple of days. He's hitting .251/.319/.316 with no homers, 22 RBI and 10 stolen bases on the season.
Sep 17 - 4:50 PM

Gorkys Hernandez is dealing with a sprained left wrist and could miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

The 30-year-old outfielder had carved out his first extended platoon role in the big leagues this season, slashing .251/.319/.316 with 22 RBI and 10 swipes in 325 plate appearances with the Giants.
Sep 15 - 7:37 PM

Gorkys Hernandez went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Hernandez provided no offense in the loss, but the same could be said for the Giants as a team -- they ended up losing by an embarrassing 11-0 final score. On the whole, Hernandez is hitting a mere .268/.334/.341 with 19 RBI and 10 steals in 106 games this season. He is still looking for his first home run as August begins to draw to a close.
Aug 27 - 7:23 PM

Gorkys Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Brewers.

Hernandez picked up both doubles against Matt Garza in this one. He is up to 17 two-baggers on the season. Overall, the outfielder is slashing an underwhelming .272/.339/.346 with 19 RBI and 10 steals in 105 games played. Hernandez has yet to hit a home run this season.
Aug 23 - 7:05 PM

Gorkys Hernandez went 4-for-4 versus the Padres on Friday.

It was a weak 4-for-4 from a fantasy standpoint, as he neither scored nor drove in a run. He was also thrown out on his steal attempt. Hernandez has started three straight games with Austin Slater down. He's hitting .248 with no power at all, but the Giants still seem to think he's their best option in left.
Jul 15 - 1:44 AM

Gorkys Hernandez went 3-for-5 and scored a run in Wednesday's win over the Tigers.

All three hits were singles. The 29-year-old part-time outfielder has a .236 batting average with no home runs and 12 RBI. He has scored 20 runs and stolen seven bases. He was signed originally by the Tigers and has since changed organizations eight times and played in the Mexican League.
Jul 5 - 11:17 PM

Filling in for an injured Denard Span, Gorkys Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a double, four RBI and a walk Tuesday as the Giants beat the Diamondbacks 8-4.

Hernandez was penciled on to the Giants' roster right from the start of the spring, but he didn't figure to see much action after Chris Marrero was able to claim a spot platooning with Jarret Parker in left. It also didn't help matters that Hernandez hit just .211/.237/.368 with one steal in three tries during March. What the Giants weren't counting on was needing to replace Span on the second day of the season. Hernandez got the nod and collected as many RBI tonight as he had in 26 games and 54 at-bats for the Giants last year. He'll continue to start in center until Span returns.
Apr 5 - 1:38 AM

Gorkys Hernandez is starting in center field and batting leadoff for the Giants in Friday's NLDS Game 1 against the Cubs.

Jon Lester has dominated left-handed batters this season, so Hernandez is getting the call in center over Denard Span. The Giants also have Kelby Tomlinson at second base over Joe Panik. Their full lineup looks like this: Hernandez CF, Brandon Belt 1B, Buster Posey C, Hunter Pence RF, Angel Pagan LF, Brandon Crawford SS, Tomlinson 2B, Conor Gillaspie 3B, Johnny Cueto P.

Gorkys Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Padres.

Hernandez cracked a solo home run in the seventh inning to boost the Giants to a 4-1 advantage. That would stand as the final score. The 29-year-old outfielder has seen just 28 at-bats with the big league club this season and has picked up 10 hits in that space, including two homers and three doubles. Despite some nice numbers in a small sample size, he does not hold fantasy value.

Gorkys Hernandez hit his first major league homer since 2012 in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

He also doubled. Hernandez has had just 29 major league at-bats since 2012, when he was a 24-year-old rookie. He'll mostly be a bench player this month, but he was getting a start in Denard Span's place tonight.

Giants purchased the contract of OF Gorkys Hernandez from Triple-A Sacramento.

He'll serve as outfield depth for San Francisco while Gregor Blanco recovers from a right shoulder impingement. Hernandez, 28, was batting .302/.382/.421 with eight home runs and 20 stolen bases in 116 games this season at Triple-A, but he seems doubtful to hold significant fantasy value.
Tue, Aug 23, 2016 06:07:00 PM

Giants signed OF Gorkys Hernandez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Hernandez, 28, hit .288/.365/.406 at Triple-A with the Pirates last season and received a cup of coffee in the majors. He'll provide outfield depth.

Gorkys Hernandez has elected free agency.

Hernandez, now 28, appeared in eight games with the Pirates this season and spent most of the year in Triple-A, where he batted .288/.365/.406 with six homers and 42 RBI over 104 games. He'll look for a better opportunity elsewhere.
