The 26-year-old, whom the Royals acquired from the Marlins in July, hit .263/.318/.367 with 25 stolen bases in the minors last season. Hernandez' star has fallen quite a bit since being considered a top prospect, and he'll serve as organizational depth for the Royals.

Royals acquired OF Gorkys Hernandez from the Marlins in exchange for SS Alex McClure.

Hernandez is still just 25, but it's been a while since he was a decent prospect. He's batted .275/.330/.375 with four homers and 22 steals at the Triple-A level this season and has been assigned to Triple-A Omaha.

Marlins sent OF Gorkys Hernandez outright to Triple-A New Orleans.

Hernandez successfully passed through waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 25-year-old batted just .192/.267/.301 across 173 plate appearances in the majors last season and will serve as outfield depth in the minors.

Marlins designated OF Gorkys Hernandez for assignment.

Hernandez failed to earn a bench spot, and since he's out of options will have to pass through waivers in order to report to Triple-A. He offers good defense but batted just .192/.267/.301 across 173 plate appearances last season between the Pirates and Fish.

Gorkys Hernandez has been informed that he will not be on the Marlins' Opening Day roster.

Hernandez batted just .192/.267/.301 across 173 plate appearances last season between the Pirates and Fish. He will act as organizational outfield depth this summer for Miami unless a trade partner can be found.

Gorkys Hernandez blasted the first home run of his major league career in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday.

Hernandez hit his two-run blast off Shawn Marcum in the fifth inning. The outfielder should get an extended look over the final month of the regular season, but he's hitting just .165 with a homer, eight RBI and four stolen bases through 91 at-bats and can be ignored in most fantasy formats.

Marlins acquired OF Gorkys Hernandez, RHP Kyle Kaminska and a 2013 competitive balance pick from the Pirates for 1B Gaby Sanchez.

Hernandez, 24, went 2-for-24 in 25 games with the Pirates earlier this season and has fallen off the table offensively since being traded by the Braves in 2009. He at least has a good glove, so there's a chance he could stick as a fourth outfielder. But the Marlins mostly did well here to get the competitive balance pick from the Pirates.

Pirates optioned OF Gorkys Hernandez to Triple-A Indianapolis.

He was sent down in order to make room for top prospect Starling Marte on the active roster. Hernandez is 2-for-24 (.083) in 25 games with the Pirates this season.

Pirates recalled OF Gorkys Hernandez from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Many thought that prospect Starling Marte would get the call if Jose Tabata was demoted, but this is a sign that the Pirates think he still has some work to do. Hernandez went 2-for-10 in a stint with the Pirates earlier this season and is hitting .268/.364/.362 with two homers, 25 RBI, 13 stolen bases and a .726 OPS in 64 games at the Triple-A level this year. The 24-year-old has some speed, but can be ignored in most fantasy leagues.

Pirates optioned OF Gorkys Hernandez to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates recalled OF Gorkys Hernandez from Triple-A Indianapolis.

A speedy, defensive-first outfielder, Hernandez was batting .266/.343/.355 with two homers and seven steals at Indy. He could get a shot at some playing time in left field with Alex Presley now in the minors.

Pirates optioned OFs Gorkys Hernandez and Alex Presley and LHPs Daniel Moskos and Tony Watson to Triple-A Indianapolis; optioned LHPs Aaron Thompson and Jeff Locke and RHP Ramon Aguero to Double-A Altoona.

Meanwhile, outfielder Andrew Lambo and infielders Brian Friday and Chase d'Arnaud were reassigned to minor league camp. Hernandez, who was acquired from the Braves in the Nate McLouth trade, has yet to progress as hoped, but the Pirates are apparently ready to challenge him at the Triple-A level for the first time. Moskos, a former 2007 first-round pick, could see the majors at some point this season as a left-handed specialist.

Gorkys Hernandez will miss 3-4 months with a fractured right ring finger.

It's yet another tough blow to a system that has seen many of their top prospects go down with injury this season. Hernandez was awful over the first two months of the season, but has improved his overall batting line to .266/.333/.334 to go along with two homers, 26 RBI and 17 stolen bases. Acquired from the Braves in last year's Nate McLouth trade, the 22-year-old outfielder was ranked as the organization's No. 10 prospect by Baseball America coming into the season.
