Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Derrick Robinson will be sidelined 4-6 months after undergoing shoulder surgery Tuesday.
It could explain why Robinson never caught on anywhere after being non-tendered by the Reds back in early December. With a 4-6 month timetable, Robinson seems likely to sit out the 2014 campaign before seeking employment next winter. Feb 25 - 9:06 PM

The 25-year-old has already seen plenty of action in a reserve role with the Reds this season, hitting .254/.325/.654 with no homers, seven RBI and three stolen bases over 173 at-bats. He remains irrelevant for fantasy purposes.

Derrick Robinson did not play Saturday due to ongoing left shoulder soreness.

Robinson continues to be bother by an injury he originally suffered back on July 9 on a slide into home plate. He's not playing Sunday, either, though he wouldn't have started against lefty Jeff Locke even if he were healthy. Consider Robinson day-to-day.

Robinson, who was signed to a minor league deal this offseason, is hitting a cool .346 (9-for-26) with four RBI this spring. He's an extreme longshot to crack the opening day roster however, and is slated to open the season in the outfield at Triple-A Louisville.

Low Single-A Burlington's Derrick Robinson went 5-for-6 with a triple, a double and two stolen bases on Sunday.

Robinson could have been a cornerback at the University of Florida, but he preferred baseball and signed with the Royals after being drafted in the fourth round last year. Still a very raw talent, he's currently hitting .273/.318/.337 with 15 steals in 16 tries. The 19-year-old switch-hitter is going to be very slow to develop, but it's possible that he'll be the Royals' starting center fielder someday.
