Mets designated RHP Jack Egbert for assignment.

Egbert was cleared to make room for Chris Young on the 40-man roster. He seems likely to pass through waivers unclaimed and return to a 2.08 ERA in the minors.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Jack Egbert from Triple-A Buffalo.

Egbert, who hasn't appeared in the majors since a two-game stint with the White Sox in 2009, held a 2.08 ERA over 17 games for Buffalo. Robert Carson was sent down in a corresponding move.

Mets designated RHP Jack Egbert for assignment.

Egbert was cleared to make room for outfielder Jason Pridie on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old right-hander was claimed off waivers from the White Sox in September. He allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings with Chicago last season, but spent most of the season with Triple-A Charlotte, posting a 5.05 ERA in 108 2/3 innings.

Mets claimed RHP Jack Egbert on waivers from the White Sox.

The 26-year-old Egbert allowed 8 runs in 2.2 innings this year for the White Sox and put up a 5.05 ERA in 108 innings for Triple-A Charlotte. He showed some potential earlier in his career, but chances are he won't help the Mets much other than providing a warm body.

White Sox optioned RHP Jack Egbert to Triple-A Charlotte.

Egbert clearly wasn't long for the majors after giving up eight runs in 2 2/3 innings during his first two appearances. The White Sox will likely replace him with another reliever prior to Saturday's game.

White Sox recalled RHP Jack Egbert from Triple-A Charlotte.

It figured that Egbert would be back in the rotation for Charlotte, but since he impressed as a reliever this spring, amassing a 2.35 ERA in 15 1/3 innings, he continued to work out of the pen in Triple-A and became the White Sox's first pitching callup, even though he had allowed five runs in seven innings in Triple-A. He'll work in middle relief.

White Sox optioned RHP Jack Egbert, RHP Lance Broadway and RHP Jeff Marquez to Triple-A Charlotte; reassigned INF/OF Josh Kroeger and LHP Randy Williams to minor league camp.

It should have been Egbert, not Marquez, who was on the fringes of the rotation race all along. Egbert, though, did impress as a reliever, amassing a 2.35 ERA in 15 1/3 innings, and he might get a look out of the bullpen during the first half of the season. Marquez had a 5.87 ERA in his 15 1/3 innings. Williams, who entered camp as one of the longest shots to make the team, ended up with a 1.35 ERA in 13 1/3 innings, so he could be looking at a quick callup if he keeps it going in Triple-A.

Jack Egbert blanked the Rockies for two innings as the White Sox prevailed 4-1 on Thursday.

Egbert was hardly a bust last season, but the White Sox don't seem very high on him. He wasn't getting mentioned as a rotation possibility even before Jose Contreras suddenly became an option for the fifth spot. He'll likely return to Triple-A Charlotte for the start of the year.

Double-A Birmingham's Jack Egbert made his season debut on Friday and allowed one run in four innings.

Egbert was limited to two innings this spring because of a sore elbow. He could see time in the White Sox rotation in the second half of the season.

White Sox optioned RHP Jack Egbert and RHP Adam Russell to Triple-A Charlotte and C Cole Armstrong to Double-A Birmingham.

Egbert has a legitimate chance at sneaking into the starting rotation in 2008, but had only pitched two innings during camp. Russell gave up five runs in nine innings, and will work on recapturing the form that impressed Ozzie Guillen last spring. Cole's only shot at making the team was if Toby Hall proved unhealthy. He didn't.

White Sox purchased the contracts of RHP Jack Egbert, RHP Lucas Harrell, RHP Adam Russell and C Cole Armstrong.

Egbert and Russell, along with Gio Gonzalez, all figure to be part of Triple-A Charlotte's rotation, leaving them just one step away from the majors. Russell could end up in the pen long-term, but Egbert is a sleeper to contribute in fantasy leagues in 2008.

Jack Egbert picked up his first win of the AFL season after allowing one run in four innings on Monday.

Egbert's 11/10 K/BB ratio is unimpressive, but he has a 3.77 ERA in 14 innings in Arizona. The 24-year-old lefty went 12-8 with a 3.06 ERA, 138 H and 165/44 K/BB in 161 2/3 innings for Double-A Birmingham last season. He's behind Gio Gonzalez in line for an opportunity, but he should make his major league debut at some point during 2008.

Jack Egbert fanned 13 in seven scoreless innings Friday for Double-A Birmingham.

Like Gio Gonzalez, Egbert had an argument for a promotion to Triple-A months ago. The 2004 13th-round pick is 9-7 with a 2.64 ERA, 92 H and 114/29 K/BB in 116 IP in the Southern League. He might be a long-term reliever, but he's a candidate to see time in the White Sox rotation later this season.

White Sox prospect Jack Egbert fanned 12 in six scoreless innings Sunday for Double-A Birmingham.

He allowed two hits and walked one. Egbert had a 2.67 ERA and a 144/54 K/BB ratio in 161 2/3 innings last season, most of them coming at Single-A Winston-Salem. The 2004 13th-round pick out of Rutgers shows a pretty good fastball-curveball combination. He could have a future as a setup man if he doesn't make it as a starter.
