Tigers signed OF/1B Chad Huffman to a minor league contract.
Huffman last saw big league action when he accumulated 18 at-bats with the Yankees in 2010. He kicked around in the minor league systems of the Indians and Cardinals from 2011-2013 before heading over to the Japan Pacific League for these last two seasons. The 30-year-old's posted nice minor league numbers in the past (career triple-slash of .280/.373/.456), but the odds of him making an impact at the major league level after such a long time away are slim. Cardinals signed OF/1B Chad Huffman to a minor league contract.

He has not been given an invitation to spring training. Huffman, 27, hasn't appeared in the majors since 2010 and batted .282/.350/.453 with six homers over 67 games for the Indians' Triple-A affiliate in 2012.

Chad Huffman (hamstring) will likely be available to play Friday.

Huffman has been sidelined since Saturday with a strained right hamstring, but went through a full workout Thursday. The 25-year-old is competing for a backup outfield spot, but is likely to start the year in Triple-A.

Chad Huffman has been sidelined since Saturday due to a strained right hamstring.

Indians skipper Manny Acta told MLB.com's Jordan Bastian that he expects Huffman to miss "a couple more days." The 25-year-old outfielder batted .274/.353/.410 in 368 at-bats at the Triple-A level last year and could see time in the big leagues in late 2011.

Indians sent OF Chad Huffman outright to Triple-A Columbus.

The Indians snagged Huffman from the Yankees in September after he was designated for assignment, but he never got a shot in Cleveland and finished the season with a .274/.353/.410 Triple-A batting line.

Indians claimed outfielder Chad Huffman off waivers and optioned him to Triple-A Columbus.

What's the point of claiming Huffman unless he's going right on to the major league roster? The minor league season is over, and Huffman is a 25-year-old without much in the way of upside. He hit .274/.353/.410 in 368 at-bats in Triple-A this year.

Yankees designated OF Chad Huffman for assignment.

Huffman spent three weeks with the Yanks in late June and early July but managed just 18 at-bats and tallied only three hits. The 25-year-old may draw some interest from other clubs because of his young age.

Yankees optioned OF Chad Huffman to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Chad Huffman, who was recalled after Marcus Thames suffered a hamstring injury, makes his major league debut for the Yankees on Sunday.

Huffman will bat eighth and play right field for the Yankees against the Astros. He was hitting .279/.344/.416 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before his recall.

Yankees recalled OF Chad Huffman from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Huffman was claimed off waivers from the Padres at the start of the regular season. He's the same kind of player as outfielder-DH Marcus Thames, who was placed on the disabled list in a corresponding move.

Yankees claimed OF Chad Huffman off waivers from the Padres.

Huffman was designated for assignment by the Padres over the weekend. The 24-year-old former second-round pick batted .269/.361/.469 with 20 homers and 68 RBI for Triple-A Portland last season. He's a very patient hitter with good power, but as a right-handed hitter, he projects best as a platoon player in the majors.

Padres designated OF Chad Huffman for assignment.

The move was necessary in order to clear a spot for Matt Stairs, who won a job this spring after dropping close to 40 lbs. in the offseason. Huffman, 24, is a fairly talented young prospect and should draw interest from other clubs. He won the 2009 Triple-A Home Run Derby.

Padres outfield prospect Chad Huffman won the 2009 American Family Insurance Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday night.

Huffman, 24, received $1,000 and a brand new laptop. He blasted 15 total home runs in front of local fans at Triple-A Portland's PGE Park, outlasting Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Shelly Duncan. Huffman is batting .250/.345/.443 with 12 dingers and 42 RBI in 280 at-bats this season. He may be in line for a September call-up.

Chad Huffman hit a grand slam and walked twice in his three plate appearances Friday against the Rockies.

Huffman has excellent on-base skills, but he disappointed in the power department when he hit just nine homers in Double-A last season, and since he's a below average defensive left fielder, he'll need to make quite an impact offensively if he's going to play regularly in the majors. A 20-homer season in Triple-A this year will be a necessity in order for him to be taken seriously entering 2010.

Chad Huffman delivered a grand slam for the Saguaros of the AFL on Friday.

Huffman is still hitting just .207 in 58 at-bats. The 23-year-old batted .284/.383/.419 for Double-A San Antonio last season. He doesn't have the power one hopes for from a corner outfielder, but he should be good enough to start in left field against right-handers for the Padres or another team come 2010 or 2011. He'll open next season in Triple-A.
