Blue Jays signed INF Brian Bixler to a minor league contract.
Bixler last played in the majors in 2012, when he hit .193/.253/.330 in 88 at-bats with the Astros. He spent last season in the Padres' minor league system and didn't fare much better there, slashing just .205/.287/.251 with a pair of homers, 23 RBI and seven steals in 95 games between Double and Triple-A. The 33-year-old infielder should serve as organizational depth for the Blue Jays, but there's no fantasy upside here. Tue, Dec 29, 2015 10:04:00 AM

Padres signed INF Brian Bixler to a minor league contract.

He'll be assigned to Double-A San Antonio, where he'll provide infield depth with Jace Peterson being promoted. Bixler spent all of last season at Triple-A with the Mets, batting .259/.323/.372 with five homers over 101 games.

Mets signed INF/OF Brian Bixler to a minor league contract.

He'll receive an invitation to spring training. Bixler has put up an ugly .189/.249/.269 over parts of four minor league seasons and is not a good bet to win an Opening Day roster spot.

Astros sent OF Brian Bixler outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Bixler was designated for assignment earlier this week and went unclaimed on waivers. He'll continue to represent minor league outfield depth.

Astros designated OF Brian Bixler for assignment.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the newly-acquired Tyler Greene. Bixler will likely go through waivers unclaimed and continue to serve as depth at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Astros optioned OF Brian Bixler to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Bixler is hitting .193 with no patience or power over 96 plate appearances. Because Houston is intent on jettisoning all veterans from their roster, Bixler should be back later this summer.

Brian Bixler doubled, homered and scored three runs in Monday's loss to the Padres.

With Jose Altuve out and Jordan Schafer slumping, Bixler batted leadoff and came up with a rare big night. He's hitting .295 in limited action this year, but it won't last. The 'Stros also got longballs from Carlos Lee and Jason Castro.

Making a spot start for Jed Lowrie, Brian Bixler went 3-for-5 and launched the first homer of his major league career in Monday's win over the Royals.

It took 161 games, but he finally hit one over the boards. Bixler also added a single and a double, driving in three runs. He'll go back to a utility role Tuesday.

Astros recalled INF Brian Bixler from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

It's his second stint with the club, as he went 1-for-6 at the plate in five games with the Astros this season. His stay should be short, as he's just up in place of Marwin Gonzalez, who is on paternity leave.

Astros purchased the contract of SS Brian Bixler from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Bixler had a nice spring but didn't make the Opening Day roster until Jed Lowrie was injured. He figures to share the shortstop job with Marwin Gonzalez until Lowrie returns, which could be a week from now. The career .187/.248/.247 hitter can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Brian Bixler went 2-for-4 and homered as the Astros' leadoff man Friday in a 5-1 win over the Nationals.

Bixler has spent most of his career as a middle infielder, but the Astros have him playing the outfield this spring as he attempts to make the club as a utilityman. With a .333 average, two homers, a triple and three walks in 15 at-bats, he's been as hot as anyone on the club. Still, he's not a long-term piece for the Astros and the team shouldn't be looking at him as more than a 25th man.
