White Sox signed C Bryan Anderson to a minor league contract.

He's been given an invitation to spring training. Anderson used to be a decent prospect a while back but batted an ugly .225/.302/.317 at Triple-A in 2012. Even with the White Sox' lack of catching depth, he seems likely to start 2013 at Triple-A.

Bryan Anderson has elected free agency.

The 25-year-old backstop hit an underwhelming .225/.302/.317 with six homers and 35 RBI at Triple-A Memphis before appearing in 10 games with the Cardinals as a September call-up. He has decided to explore the free agent market rather than accepting an assignment to Triple-A.

Cardinals sent C Bryan Anderson outright to Triple-A Memphis.

Anderson appeared in 10 games with the Cardinals as a September callup. The 25-year-old is expected to open the 2013 season at the Triple-A level.

He'll serve as insurance behind the plate while Yadier Molina is banged up. Tony Cruz will handle the starting job while Yadi is out.

Cardinals optioned C Bryan Anderson to Triple-A Memphis.

Anderson was called up last weekend after Yadier Molina was on the bereavement list, but he didn't make an appearance during his brief stint with the big club. The 25-year-old will return to a .210/.295/.272 batting line at the Triple-A level.

Cardinals recalled C Bryan Anderson from Triple-A Memphis.

He'll split playing time with Tony Cruz while Yadier Molina is on the bereavement list. Anderson, 25, is hitting .210/.295/.272 with two homers and a .568 OPS in 64 games at the Triple-A level this year. He can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Cardinals optioned C Bryan Anderson to Triple-A Memphis.

With Anderson being sent down, that means Tony Cruz has won the backup starting catcher job. The Cardinals also reassigned right-hander Victor Marte and outfielder-infielder Eugenio Velez to minor league camp.

Bryan Anderson went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk Tuesday against the Astros.

Anderson is 6-for-13 with four walks this spring and is easily outshining fellow backup catcher candidates Tony Cruz and Koyie Hill with the bat. But offense isn't going to be the determining factor here. Anderson has the worst defensive reputation of the trio, and he'll have to overcome that to stick with Mike Matheny's team.

Cardinals optioned C Bryan Anderson and OF Adron Chambers to Triple-A Memphis.

The Cards will roll with Yadier Molina and Gerald Laird as their big league catching duo this season. Anderson will only get the call in the event of an injury. Chambers opened some eyes this spring but is still about a year away from contributing at the major league level.

Cardinals recalled C Bryan Anderson from Triple-A Memphis.

Anderson collected two hits in seven at-bats during a short stay in the big leagues back in April. He won't play much behind Yadier Molina, and he'll be sent back down once Jason LaRue (concussion) returns.

Cardinals optioned C Bryan Anderson to Triple-A Louisville.

The 23-year-old was 2-for-7 (.286) with one RBI during his brief stay with the Cardinals. He'll share time with Matt Pagnozzi in the minors.

Bryan Anderson will start at catcher over Yadier Molina on Tuesday.

It's about time. Yadi is a workhorse and all, but he's caught 38 innings in the past three days and could probably use some rest. Anderson, once a top prospect in the Cardinals' system, was 6-for-18 (.333) before being called up to the big leagues last week to fill in for the injured Jason LaRue.

Cardinals recalled C Bryan Anderson from Triple-A Memphis.

Anderson will take the place of the injured Jason LaRue on the 25-man roster. The 23-year-old batted .245/.293/.399 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 163 at-bats with Triple-A Memphis last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in June. The former top prospect was off to a 6-for-18 (.333) start with Memphis this season.

Bryan Anderson went 3-for-6 with a homer, a double and a walk Friday for Triple-A Memphis.

Anderson was a disappointment last year, and it doesn’t seem like any of the teams looking for a catcher of the future have made much of an effort to pry him away from the Cardinals. He should be available, since he’s never going to overtake Yadier Molina and he doesn’t fit the usual mold for a Tony La Russa backup, but he’ll have to step it up this season in order to amass much trade value.
