Blake Wood (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Monday with High-A Inland Empire.

A right elbow impingement has sidelined Wood since April 22, but he's been making progress in recent days. Wood threw a bullpen session Friday and, coming out of it OK, is ready for a rehab assignment. He should be back with the Halos before the end of the month.

Blake Wood (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and will throw another one Friday.

It's his first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the disabled list nearly three weeks ago with a right elbow impingement. He could begin a rehab assignment next week.
May 11 - 12:28 PM

Blake Wood (elbow) is close to throwing off a mound.

Wood has been throwing flat-ground sessions almost the entire time he's been on the disabled list and should be cleared to take that next step by the end of this week. The 32-year-old setup man suffered a right elbow impingement toward the end of April. He had a 2.31 ERA and 10 strikeouts through his first 11 2/3 innings this season out of the Angels' bullpen.

Blake Wood (elbow) told reporters Tuesday that he has continued throwing since landing on the disabled list.

Wood hasn't stepped back atop a mound yet, but that should happen soon. The setup man has been out since April 22 because of a right elbow impingement.
May 1 - 10:03 PM

Angels placed RHP Blake Wood on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 22, with a right elbow impingement.

Wood was scored upon in his last three appearances after 10 straight scoreless outings, but he might have been pitching physically compromised. It's unclear how long he'll be on the shelf.

He can earn an additional $50,000 in incentives, per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Wood posted a 5.45 ERA and 84/33 K/BB ratio over 74 1/3 innings for the Reds and Angels in 2017.

Angels claimed RHP Blake Wood off of waivers from the Reds.

Wood was designated for assignment by the Reds earlier in the week. The 32-year-old right-hander owned an uninspiring 5.65 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 62/29 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings for the Reds. He could find a home in middle relief in Los Angeles.

Blake Wood escaped a bases-loaded jam to earn his first save as a Red on Tuesday against the Braves.

The Reds turned to Wood with Tony Cingrani having pitched three out of the last four days. He walked a pair and allowed a single to load the bases with no one out but escaped with a strikeout and double play. Wood looks like he might be next in line for saves and has struck out a batter per inning this season, but he has major control issues and can't be trusted in high-leverage situations.

Reds signed RHP Blake Wood to a one-year contract.

Wood was most recently with the Pirates. In their minor league system, he held a 3.99 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 70/25 K/BB ratio across 58 2/3 innings. The numbers were serviceable enough that the Reds opted to secure the 30-year-old right-hander on a major league contract.

Blake Wood has elected free agency.

The 30-year-old right-hander spent the 2015 campaign in the Pirates organization, compiling a 3.99 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 70/25 K/BB ratio over 58 2/3 innings. There should be bullpen-starved teams interested in inking him to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
