Rivero hit just .254/.299/.355 at Triple-A in 2015. He has flashed some pop against left-handers, but this is nothing more than an organizational depth move for Arizona. Nov 23 - 4:04 PM

Rivero made it up for a brief cup of coffee with the Red Sox this season but spent most of the year between Double- and Triple-A, hitting .264/.324/.379 with seven homers and 53 RBI. The 26-year-old is probably a long shot to win an Opening Day roster spot.

Rivero, 23, batted .270/.326/.440 with 16 home runs, 71 RBI and a .766 OPS over 568 plate appearances this past season between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Rivero, 22, batted .232/.278/.325 with six home runs and 43 RBI in 406 at-bats in his second year with Double-A Akron this season. The Indians protected Rivero from the Rule 5 Draft last December waiting for his breakout season on offense, but things just haven't come together for him yet.

Carlos Rivero had a grand slam and a two-run homer Tuesday for low Single-A Lake County.

Rivero, who turns 19 later this month, is batting .292/.327/.434 in 106 at-bats. The Indians really like his offensive potential as a right-handed hitter. He probably won't last as a shortstop, but he's already intriguing as a fantasy prospect.
