Marlins placed INF Chris Valaika on the 15-day disabled list with a left wrist fracture.

Valaika suffered the injury Tuesday night when Padres' first baseman Yonder Alonso slid into him during a stolen base attempt. There's no clear timetable for his return. Derek Dietrich has been called up from Double-A Jacksonville and should see most of the playing time at second base in the short-term.

Chris Valaika was diagnosed with a fracture to the tip of his left radius bone in his wrist.

Valaika suffered the injury Tuesday night when Yonder Alonso slid into him during a stolen base attempt. The 27-year-old was filling in for Donovan Solano at second base, but now he's looking at an extended absence. Now Nick Green and possibly Chris Coghlan could be in the mix for playing time at second base.

Chris Valaika left Tuesday's game in the eighth inning with an apparent wrist injury.

Valaika, playing second base, was injured when Yonder Alonso slid into him on a steal attempt. The plan was for him to play fairly regularly with Donovan Solano on the DL, but now that might be Nick Green's job.

Marlins purchased the contract of INF Chris Valaika from Triple-A New Orleans.

He won a spot despite batting just .235/.259/.373 this spring. Valaika shouldn't be owned in fantasy leagues.

Valaika did not appear in the major leagues last season and owns a weak .270/.303/.381 career batting line. But the Marlins, of course, are desperate for warm bodies.

Valaika spent all of 2012 at Triple-A with the Reds, batting a paltry .219/.265/.349. He'll provide organizational depth in Miami.

The move was made in order to clear space on the 40-man roster. Valaika remains in the organization.

Chris Valaika is expected to miss 3-4 weeks following surgery on his right knee.

It's the very same knee which required surgery last September. The 26-year-old was hitting .244/.274/.384 with three homers, 16 RBI and a .658 OPS over his first 175 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this year.

Chris Valaika is recovered from September knee surgery.

"I’m all healed up and ready to go," Valaika told reporters on Monday morning in Reds camp. "I’ve felt 100 percent the last three weeks or so." The 26-year-old will be competing for a backup infield job this spring.

Chris Valaika (knee surgery) has been cleared to begin throwing and running lightly.

Valaika tore his ACL during an early-September game against the Rockies and had to be shut down for the rest of the season. But he's currently on track to be fully healthy by the start of spring training in February.

Chris Valaika will undergo season-ending surgery next week to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

Valaika suffered the injury during Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Rockies. It's likely that the procedure will affect his ability to get back to 100 percent in time for the start of spring training next season. He went 7-for-25 with a double and triple in his limited time with the Reds this year.

Miguel Cairo replaced him. Valaika is hitting a solid .280/.333/.400 in limited time this year. We'll update you on the status of the 2006 third-round pick when more information becomes available.

Reds recalled INF Chris Valaika from Triple-A Louisville.

Valaika, 26, went 5-for-16 (.313) with one double, one triple and two runs scored during a brief stay with the big club earlier this season. The 2006 third-round pick was batting .261/.302/.355 with seven home runs, 37 RBI and a .657 OPS over 453 plate appearances with Triple-A Louisville. He'll function as depth around the infield.
