Nationals claimed INF Pedro Florimon off waivers from the Twins.

Florimon is a .204/.266/.300 career hitter in 692 career plate appearances at the major league level, but he is athletic enough to play all around the infield. The Nats designated outfielder Eury Perez for assignment to open up a 40-man roster spot.
Sep 18 - 2:55 PM

Twins optioned INF Pedro Florimon to Triple-A Rochester.

Florimon is 7-for-86 (.092) with 22 strikeouts in 86 plate appearances this season at the big league level.
Jun 30 - 3:20 PM

Pedro Florimon Jr. went 0-for-3 and lost a popup in the sun for an RBI double Thursday in the loss to the Angels.

Florimon is hitting .096 this year, so he needs to be pretty stellar defensively to justify some playing time and he hasn't been quite that good. He'll return to the bench once Danny Santana gets healthy.
Jun 26 - 7:01 PM

Twins recalled INF Pedro Florimon from Triple-A Rochester.

He's taking Trevor Plouffe's (oblique) spot on the roster. Florimon was sent down last month after hitting just .108/.194/.154, and he didn't exactly catch the world on fire at Triple-A, either, with a .230/.291/.330. The 27-year-old will be used as a backup infielder.

Twins optioned INF Pedro Florimon to Triple-A Rochester.

Florimon was batting .108/.194/.154 in 25 games with the Twins. He will work on his game at Triple-A and should get another look in Minnesota later this season.
May 8 - 3:42 PM

Pedro Florimon struck out all three times he was up Saturday against the Yankees.

Florimon is 1-for-11 since returning from an appendectomy that cost him the first 2 1/2 weeks of the exhibition season. The Twins aren't playing him for his bat anyway, so he'll be on the active roster to start the year.
Mar 22 - 5:34 PM

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) is scheduled to play in a minor league game on Friday.

It will be his first live game since having his appendix removed in mid-February. Florimon is hoping to open the season as the Twins' starting shortstop, but he'll have to avoid physical setbacks to pull that off.
Mar 13 - 1:04 PM

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) hopes to make his Grapefruit League debut in a week.

Florimon has been going through fielding drills and taking batting practice with no issues. He'll be able to get in about two weeks' worth of spring at-bats, which should be enough to prepare him for Opening Day. "I think 25, 30 at-bats, and I think I would be ready," he said.
Mar 9 - 9:42 AM

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) fielded grounders at shortstop on Wednesday in Twins camp.

Florimon is performing most baseball-related activities at this point and should be close to 100 percent by the start of the regular season. He had to take a couple of weeks off after having his appendix removed. The final hurdle before his Grapefruit League debut will be live batting practice.
Mar 5 - 4:35 PM

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) took 20-30 light swings off a tee Sunday in Twins camp.

Florimon told reporters after the workout that he felt no discomfort. He underwent an appendectomy in mid-February and might not make his Grapefruit League debut for another week, but there's still some hope that the Minnesota shortstop will be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 3 - 8:56 AM

Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Friday that Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) could begin the season on the disabled list.

He added that the timetable for the shortstop will be closely in line with the opener. The good news is that a DL stint could be backdated, so Florimon seems unlikely to miss a full two weeks if a move is made. The shortstop is hoping to resume hitting next week.
Feb 28 - 5:07 PM

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) hopes to resume hitting in the batting cage next week.

Florimon rode a stationary bike for 20 minutes Monday and has been approved to lift 15 to 20 pounds in the weight room. He will have enough time to get ready by Opening Day. "I have to take it slow," the shortstop said.
Feb 24 - 9:04 PM

Pedro Florimon (appendectomy) was released from the hospital Tuesday.

Florimon woke up in the middle of the night Monday with discomfort in his side and required an appendectomy. His appendix didn't burst, so he didn't need emergency surgery, which likely would have sidelined him for significantly longer. As is, he'll be shut down from baseball activities for at least two weeks.
Feb 18 - 11:42 AM

Pedro Florimon underwent an emergency appendectomy on Sunday night and will be shut down for two weeks.

It's early enough that Florimon should be able to catch back up with the other players in Twins camp by the start of the 2014 regular season. The 27-year-old is slated to return as Minnesota's starting shortstop despite batting just .221/.281/.330 in 134 games last year.
