Giants placed SS Brandon Crawford on the bereavement list.

Crawford left the team to attend his sister-in-law's funeral. He also suffered a strained groin on Tuesday night and is expected to undergo an MRI when he returns on Friday. If Crawford lands on the disabled list, the Giants can backdate the move to Tuesday.
Apr 26 - 6:29 PM

Brandon Crawford has been diagnosed with a right groin strain.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said the club is hoping to get an MRI before Crawford goes on bereavement leave Wednesday. This could turn into a 10-day disabled list stint for the 30-year-old shortstop, who injured his groin Tuesday on an eighth-inning single against the Dodgers. He'll be away from the Giants through Friday at least to attend funeral services for his sister-in-law. Eduardo Nunez took over at shortstop on Tuesday night.
Apr 26 - 1:30 AM

Brandon Crawford was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Dodgers with an apparent leg injury.

Crawford grabbed at his upper quad (or groin) as he rounded first base on a single in the bottom of the eighth inning. He tried out some sprints before exiting, so the injury can't be all that serious. The 30-year-old shortstop is due to leave the Giants on Wednesday to attend funeral services for his sister-in-law. San Francisco seems likely to put him on the three-day bereavement list.
Apr 26 - 12:58 AM

Brandon Crawford will be away from the Giants on Wednesday and Thursday to attend funeral services for his sister-in-law.

Crawford could return Friday, so the Giants haven't decided whether they're going to place him on the three-day bereavement list. There should be something more official in the next 24 hours.
Apr 25 - 7:38 PM

Brandon Crawford will be placed on bereavement leave next week.

Updating an earlier report, Brandon Crawford is away from the team due to a family emergency.

Crawford's sister-in-law passed away this week. It's horrible news and our prayers are with Crawford and his family during this difficult time. Eduardo Nunez will fill in at shortstop during Crawford's absence.
Apr 13 - 7:08 PM

Brandon Crawford is not in the Giants' lineup Thursday against the Rockies.

Crawford didn't start Tuesday's game either, though he did make a pinch-hitting appearance later on. Tuesday the Giants sat Crawford against a left-hander (Arizona's Robbie Ray) but that won't be the case Thursday with right-hander Jon Gray throwing for Colorado. Eduardo Nunez will handle shortstop and bat sixth.

It's the first day off this season for Crawford. Eduardo Nunez will play shortstop and Aaron Hill will cover third base Tuesday night against Arizona. Denard Span is also on the bench for San Francisco, with Gorkys Hernandez patrolling center field.
