Cory Rasmus has elected free agency.
Rasmus was pushed off the Angels' 40-man roster earlier this week and refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake. The 29-year-old right-hander may have to settle for a minor league contract on the open market after posting a rough 5.84 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 24 2/3 innings in 2016. Nov 15 - 7:42 PM

Date:

Angels sent RHP Cory Rasmus outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Rasmus cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The right-hander will remain in the organization as a depth arm.
Nov 14 - 8:22 PM

Angels designated RHP Cory Rasmus for assignment.

Rasmus was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and the Angels have decided he's not worth a raise. The righty was limited to just 20 games this season between the majors and minors while rehabbing from core surgery. He's had some spurts of success, so there should be a little interest in Rasmus.
Nov 7 - 8:50 PM

Angels activated RHP Cory Rasmus from the 60-day disabled list.

Rasmus had been on the shelf since early July after undergoing core muscle surgery. The 28-year-old right-hander struggled in his 21 2/3 frames prior to being sidelined by that surgery, pitching to a 5.40 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. There is no fantasy intrigue here.
Sep 14 - 8:25 PM

Cory Rasmus (abdomen) is scheduled to pitch an inning for rookie-level Orem on Thursday.

Rasmus will make one more minor league rehab appearance after that (if the schedule allows for it) and should then return to the Angels' bullpen early next week. He underwent core muscle surgery in July.
Sep 7 - 3:16 PM

Cory Rasmus (abdomen) has resumed throwing off a mound.

Rasmus underwent core muscle surgery in early July. He's running out of time to get in some rehab appearances before the minor league season ends, but the hope remains that he can return at some point next month.
Aug 26 - 11:16 AM

Angels transferred RHP Cory Rasmus from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move cleared a spot on the 40-man roster for Ji-Man Choi. Rasmus could be out for the season following core surgery.
Jul 10 - 8:38 AM

Cory Rasmus (groin) will undergo core surgery.

Rasmus underwent core surgery a year ago March, too, which makes the Angels' announcement that much more concerning. This season, he has already landed on the disabled list twice due to a groin injury. His upcoming surgery could well cost him the remainder of what is rapidly turning into a lost 2016 season.
Jul 6 - 8:33 PM

Angels placed RHP Cory Rasmus on the 15-day disabled list with a groin strain.

Rasmus just returned from a groin strain last Thursday, but he has apparently aggravated the injury. The Angels have added Al Alburquerque and A.J. Achter to their bullpen for Monday's game versus the Twins.
Jun 13 - 7:32 PM

Angels activated RHP Cory Rasmus from the 15-day disabled list.

Reliever Greg Mahle was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake in the corresponding roster move. Rasmus missed about three weeks with a strained groin. The right-hander holds an ugly 5.59 ERA over 11 outings this year.
Jun 9 - 4:20 PM

Angels placed RHP Cory Rasmus on the 15-day disabled list with a groin strain.

Rasmus told reporters Tuesday that he thinks the strain is minor, but he could still be looking at a lengthy absence. The right-hander has posted a 5.59 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 12/13 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings (one spot start, 10 relief appearances) this season.
May 17 - 7:05 PM

Making a spot start, Cory Rasmus was tagged for five runs in 2 1/3 innings by the Rays in a loss Friday.

Rasmus was replacing Garrett Richards in the rotation tonight, but he'll probably return to the pen next week, with Matt Shoemaker taking his spot.
May 7 - 1:59 AM

Angels activated RHP Cory Rasmus from the 15-day disabled list.

He missed a couple weeks with a strained forearm. Rasmus figures to be used in long relief this month.
Tue, Sep 1, 2015 06:52:00 PM

Cory Rasmus (forearm) has been playing catch and told reporters Tuesday that he feels great.

Rasmus should be fine to rejoin the Angels' bullpen when rosters expand in September if his rehab for a right forearm strain continues to go smoothly. He has a 5.06 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 13/5 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings this season at the major league level.
Tue, Aug 25, 2015 06:00:00 PM

Angels placed RHP Cory Rasmus on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain.

The right-hander has only appeared in seven games for the Halos this season, compiling a 5.06 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 13/5 K/BB ratio over 10 2/3 innings. He should be ready to rejoin the bullpen in September.
