Cory Rasmus (abdomen) is an option to take Jered Weaver's (hip) spot in the Angels' rotation.

Rasmus just began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake and would only be able to go 3-4 innings if the Angels pick him to take the ball next week. He's been out all season following core muscle surgery.

Cory Rasmus (abdomen) will begin a rehab assignment in the next couple days.

He's been out all season following core muscle surgery, so the rehab assignment figures to be a lengthy one. Rasmus has started and relieved for the Angels but will likely be brought back as a relief option.
Jun 15 - 8:05 PM

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Sunday that Cory Rasmus (abdomen) is not ready for rehab appearances.

Rasmus resumed throwing in late May, but he hasn't been cleared yet to pitch in live minor league games and it's not clear when that will happen. The 27-year-old right-hander has been out all season with a core muscle injury. He underwent surgery in March.
Jun 8 - 12:01 PM

Cory Rasmus (abdomen) could begin a rehab assignment next week.

Rasmus had surgery to repair a core muscle in late March. He'll likely need a few weeks on the rehab assignment before returning to the Angels in mid-June.
May 27 - 7:24 PM

Cory Rasmus (abdomen) is expected to resume throwing off a mound this week.

Rasmus has been long-tossing from 120 feet as he works his way back from March core muscle surgery. He could be an option for the Angels at some point next month.
May 17 - 12:01 PM

Angels transferred RHP Cory Rasmus from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Gary Brown. Rasmus will now be out until at least early June as he makes his way back from core muscle surgery.
Apr 22 - 2:26 PM

Cory Rasmus will undergo surgery to repair a core muscle and is expected to be sidelined 6-8 weeks.

Rasmus, who was one of the most consistent relievers for the Angels in 2014, was expected to work in a middle relief role. His injury opens up a bullpen spot that the Angels must now scramble to fill from the remaining options in camp. Matt Lindstrom would seem to be one obvious beneficiary.
Mar 21 - 1:58 PM

Cory Rasmus got the start and allowed two runs over three innings of work in a loss to the Mariners Sunday.

Making his sixth start of the year, Rasmus gave up three hits and a walk in his three innings. Rasmus served primarily as a reliever this season, finishing 3-2 with a 2.57 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 57/17 K/BB ratio over 56 innings.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Tuesday that he "will consider" Cory Rasmus for a playoff start.

The proposition obviously wasn't near the radar just a few weeks ago, but Rasmus has surprised with a 1.69 ERA and 16/4 K/BB ratio over 16 innings across five starts after being pressed into rotation duty. He hasn't gone more than four innings or thrown more than 59 pitches in any outing, so any playoff start would be abbreviated. However, Rasmus being picked probably isn't a long shot given the state of the Angels' rotation beyond Jered Weaver.

Cory Rasmus fired four shutout innings against the Mariners on Tuesday.

Rasmus only allowed one hit and no walks in the mini-gem, striking out four. Instead of doing the predictable thing and trading for a mediocre starter to fill Garrett Richards' old rotation spot, Angels manager Mike Scioscia decided to make the turn a bullpen day, always to be kicked off by Rasmus. This was Rasmus' fourth consecutive start, and he hasn't thrown more than 49 pitches in any of them (43 tonight). Rasmus (2.57 ERA) has a nice matchup on deck with the Rangers coming to town, but don't expect him to pitch long enough to have a shot at a win.

Cory Rasmus made another spot start for the Angels and took a no-decision, allowing one run over 3 1/3 innings against the Rangers on Thursday.

Rasmus has been used exclusively as a reliever since A-ball, so he doesn't have the endurance of a typical spot starter. As such, he's lasted a total of eight innings in three starts for the Angels since August 30. Against the Rangers, he yielded only two hits while striking out three and issuing zero walks. He'll bring a 2.80 ERA and a 47/15 K/BB ratio into Tuesday's home start against the Mariners.

Cory Rasmus will make another start for the Angels on Thursday night against the Rangers.

Rasmus was excellent in his first spot start last Saturday, striking out six batters over three scoreless innings against the A's. But he struggled in a similar role this weekend against the Twins and will be a poor fantasy bet versus the Rangers. The Angels are essentially using Rasmus as their fifth starter.

Cory Rasmus will start Saturday against the Twins.

Rasmus struck out six batters over three scoreless innings in a spot start last Saturday against the A's. He should be able to go a little bit deeper into the game this time, but we wouldn't recommend using him in fantasy leagues.

Angels recalled RHP Cory Rasmus from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Rasmus struck out six batters over three scoreless innings in a spot start last Saturday against the A's. He could lead some bullpen games for the Angels down the stretch but probably won't be a reliable fantasy streamer.
