Athletics optioned 2B Jemile Weeks and OF Shane Peterson to Triple-A Sacramento.
Weeks dealt with a shoulder injury this spring and fell behind Scott Sizemore for the starting second base job. He'll need to reestablish himself in the minors before being considered for a promotion. Peterson should make his big league debut at some point in 2013. Mar 24 - 7:46 PM

Mar 9 - 3:07 PM

X-rays on Jemile Weeks' right shoulder came back negative.

Weeks suffered a bone bruise in his shoulder last Friday when he got tangled up at second base on a double-play attempt. While it's a tough blow considering that he's trying to win the second base job, he could return to game action by Sunday.
Mar 7 - 1:17 PM

Mar 5 - 11:38 PM

Jemile Weeks went 2-for-2 with a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Padres.

Weeks also walked and scored a pair of runs. The former first-round pick has picked up five hits in his first eight at-bats this spring while driving in four runs. However, he could still be out of a roster spot with Jed Lowrie expected to spend most of his time at second base.
Feb 27 - 6:23 PM

Jemile Weeks finished 2-for-3 with two RBI in the A's loss to the Indians on Monday in Arizona.

Weeks was caught stealing on his one attempt, but it was a good day overall. The talented former first-round pick is hoping to prove to A's management this spring that he can be relied on as an everyday second baseman. If he wins that job, he'll carry decent fantasy value.
Feb 25 - 6:32 PM

The Athletics' second base job "will be an open competition" between Jemile Weeks and Scott Sizemore.

Weeks dealt with health issues and struggled with effectiveness in 2012, but he'll enter spring training as the slight favorite for a starting role. After missing all of last season due to injury, Sizemore is also a candidate for playing time at third base with Josh Donaldson, and could be a potential fantasy sleeper if he can find his way into an everyday job.
Jan 27 - 4:37 PM

Jemile Weeks went 2-for-3 with a double and a steal Thursday in his first start since being called up from Triple-A.

The A's have mostly used Cliff Pennington at second base lately and they've been winning, so they probably won't be quick to make a change. Weeks, however, does offer more offensive potential at the position. The A's should give him a few more starts before they decide who they want to play at second base in the postseason, if they advance.

Jemile Weeks is starting at second base Thursday.

It'll be his first taste of action since being demoted to Triple-A Sacramento on August 20. Weeks was recalled September 10 but is batting just .220/.305/.302 in 113 major league games this season and seems unlikely to carry significant fantasy value down the stretch.

A's recalled 2B Jemile Weeks from Triple-A Sacramento.

Weeks posted a promising .333/.412/.422 slash line in 51 plate appearances at Sacramento after getting optioned off the A's 25-man roster on August 21. The 25-year-old still has a bright future but wasn't productive earlier this summer in the majors and won't get many starts over the regular season's final three weeks. His promotion can be ignored in most fantasy formats.

The A's will call up Jemile Weeks, Daric Barton and Jesse Chavez before Monday's game against the Angels.

Weeks batted just .220/.305/.302 with two homers and 15 steals in 113 games earlier this season for Oakland and won't be in a starting role this time around. He has been a major disappointment after flashing great potential to close out the 2011 campaign. Barton will be a bench bat and Chavez will add depth to the bullpen.
