Braves activated LHP Josh Outman from the 60-day disabled list; released him.
Outman has missed all of this season due to thoracic outlet syndrome. He began a rehab assignment last month, but evidently the Braves weren't bullish on his chances of contributing this season. The southpaw will now be free to seek employment elsewhere. Tue, Aug 4, 2015 06:29:00 PM

Josh Outman (shoulder) has begun a minor league rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Braves.

Outman has been out for the entirety of the season thus far due to thoracic outlet syndrome. He's still at least several weeks away from being ready to rejoin the Braves bullpen.

X-rays and an MRI taken this week on Josh Outman's shoulder came back inconclusive.

Now the Braves are sending him to a specialist in St. Louis. Outman inked a one-year, $925,000 contract with the Braves in January and was expected to serve as a lefty specialist this season for Atlanta. It sounds like he's dealing with something major.

Josh Outman is having his shoulder examined in Atlanta.

The left shoulder began barking at Outman after he pitched on Thursday. The Braves signed the lefty to a one-year contract back in January. When healthy, he acts as a left-handed specialist. Between the Indians and Yankees last season, Outman held a 2.86 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 16 walks in 28 1/3 innings.

Braves signed LHP Josh Outman to a one-year contract.

The deal carries a $925,000 base salary with $475,000 available through performance-based bonuses. Outman had stints with the Indians and Yankees last season and posted a 2.86 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 16 walks over 28 1/3 innings. The 30-year-old could stick as a left-handed specialist with Atlanta.

Yankees sent LHP Josh Outman outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Outman was designated for assignment last Monday and is now officially off the Yankees' 40-man roster. He has a 4.43 ERA in 274 1/3 career major league innings.

Yankees designated LHP Josh Outman for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Eury Perez on the 40-man roster. Outman was acquired from the Indians less than a month ago and tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings during his brief stint with the team.

Yankees acquired LHP Josh Outman from the Indians in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.

Outman had been at Triple-A Columbus after being removed from the Indians' 40-man roster, but he'll report to the big club with the Yankees. He has control issues (16 walks in 24 2/3 innings this season), but Outman has struck out over a batter per inning in his career as a reliever and held lefties to a .188/.257/.287 batting line.

Indians sent LHP Josh Outman outright to Triple-A Columbus.

The Indians designated Outman for assignment on June 18 and, somewhat surprisingly, he passed through waivers. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Indians.

Indians designated LHP Josh Outman for assignment.

Outman posted a 3.24 ERA with 24 strikeouts over 24 2/3 innings, but the Indians evidently grew tired of his control issues (16 walks). He's making just $1.25 million this season and could draw some interest on waivers.

Indians avoided arbitration with LHP Josh Outman by agreeing to a one-year contract.

The financials of the deal are not yet known. Outman, who was arbitration-eligible for the second time this offseason, came over to the Tribe in a trade with the Rockies. He put up a 4.33 ERA but held left-handed batters to a .198/.278/.261 slash line in 2013.

Indians acquired LHP Josh Outman from the Rockies for OF Drew Stubbs.

The 29-year-old replaces Rich Hill as Cleveland's left-handed specialist, a role Outman proved himself equipped for in 2013 when he held same-sided swingers to a .198/.278/.261 slash line. Terry Francona will want to limit Outman's use, as right-handed hitters teed off on Outman (.883 OPS). The southpaw collected a 4.33 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 61 appearances for the Rockies this past season.

The Indians will receive left-hander Josh Outman from the Rockies in exchange for Drew Stubbs, reports the Denver Post's Troy Renck.

This is a trade of inconveniences, as Cleveland signed David Murphy to replace Stubbs, and Colorado signed Boone Logan to replace Outman. Some writers objected to both signings under the premise that the deposed were better players than their respective teams gave them credit for being. Now, they've been swapped for each other, giving both an opportunity at small-scale vengeance. The 29-year-old Outman posted a 4.33 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 61 relief appearances in 2013. Those numbers aren't relevant to Cleveland. These are: Outman was flogged by right-handed hitters to the tune of an .883 OPS this past season, but the southpaw held left-handed swingers to an awful .198/.278/.261 slash line. He'll replace Rich Hill as Cleveland's LOOGY.

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Red Sox are interested in left-hander Josh Outman.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported Monday that the Indians have "talked quite a bit" with the Rockies about Outman, but Renck hears that the Red Sox are also interested. The 28-year-old southpaw has a 4.42 ERA and 42/13 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings this season and has held left-handed batters to a .224 batting average and a .576 OPS.
