Micah Hoffpauir has signed a one-year deal with the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan's Pacific League.
Hoffpauir mashed again at Triple-A this past season, but his success didn't translate to the major league level, as he batted just .173/.246/.231 with zero homers in 52 at-bats. His power lefty bat should do well in Japan. Wed, Nov 17, 2010 03:27:00 PM

Cubs recalled 1B Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa.

Hoffpauir is finally up, and coming off of another solid performance at Triple-A, but it's unclear how much playing time awaits him in the major leagues. Tyler Colvin is also in the running for at-bats at the position, but Hoffpauir has the benefit of actually having played first base professionally. Since Hoffpauir is 30 and has never gotten a real shot, it looks like the team is more excited about Colvin and he is the more interesting name to own here.

The Cubs will likely wait a while before they recall Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa.

He's not eligible to be recalled yet since he was just sent down on the 13th. But the Cubs will keep him at Triple-A while Iowa fights for a playoff spot. There's also the fact that Tyler Colvin is going to give first base a shot with Derrek Lee no longer around, so Hoffpauir wouldn't immediately have a place to play. Hoffpauir is doing well at Triple-A again this season (.283-22-93), but he's been up for just seven at-bats with the big club.

Cubs optioned first baseman-outfielder Micah Hoffpauir to Triple-A Iowa.

Hoffpauir went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts while Derrek Lee was absent. He'll be back in September, but the Cubs will almost surely make him a free agent this winter. Perhaps he'll be able to reestablish himself as a bench player elsewhere.

Cubs recalled infielder-outfielder Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa.

Hoffpauir managed 10 home runs and 35 RBI in limited time with the Cubs last season and has posted a respectable .875 OPS with similar pop this year in Iowa. But his playing time will probably be limited on a crowded Cubs roster and he is not going to be worth owning in fantasy leagues.

Micah Hoffpauir homered, doubled and walked twice Wednesday against the Cubs.

Hoffpauir has hit when he's gotten to play this year, but he's hit just .184 as a pinch-hitter, which is how the Cubs would prefer to use him when everyone is healthy. One wonders if he'll be back with the team next year. There wouldn't seem to be room for both he and Jake Fox when Lou Piniella doesn't like using either on defense.

Cubs recalled infielder-outfielder Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa.

Hoffpauir hit .233/.280/.422 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 180 at-bats for the Cubs before being demoted on August 11. The 29-year-old will serve as a utilityman over the season's final few weeks.

Cubs optioned infielder-outfielder Micah Hoffpauir to Triple-A Iowa.

The move was made a few days ago to clear roster space for Geovany Soto, who was activated from the disabled list. Hoffpauir was batting .233/.280/.422 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 180 at-bats.

Micah Hoffpauir drove in the game-winning run in the 11th inning against the Braves on Wednesday night.

Hoffpauir blooped an RBI single just out of the reach of Chipper Jones to drive in Derrek Lee for the go-ahead run. Hoffpauir has a solid .286/.336/.480 line with four homers and 17 RBI this season, but his fantasy value is limited to NL-only leagues.

Micah Hoffpauir led the Cactus League and Grapefruit League with 29 RBI this spring.

Sadly, he's unlikely to see much playing time in April, or even May. It'd be a shock to see Derrek Lee, Milton Bradley or Alfonso Soriano taking days off in the first month of the season. Hoffpauir will probably serve as a late-game pinch-hitter initially.

Micah Hoffpauir delivered his sixth homer of the spring Tuesday off the Angels' Scot Shields.

Hoffpauir was pretty much guaranteed Daryle Ward's job at the start of the spring. Now it just remains to be seen whether Lou Piniella is content to accept him as an outfielder. Hoffpauir won't have any fantasy value as a pinch-hitter, but if the Cubs are willing to play him in a corner when Milton Bradley lands on the DL, he'd likely be a solid option in NL-only leagues.

Manager Lou Piniella indicated Sunday that Micah Hoffpauier is a lock to make the Cubs as a bench player.

Hoffpauir leads the team with 13 RBI this spring. ''We're going to use him to rest Derrek [Lee] at first base and also use him some in the corner [outfield]," Piniella said.

Micah Hoffpauir hit a grand slam to lead the Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

With Daryle Ward gone, Hoffpauir is set to make the Cubs as a reserve. He'll primarily be used as a pinch-hitter, so he probably won't have any fantasy value. However, if Derrek Lee were to land on the DL, Hoffpauir could then be worth using in all formats.

Micah Hoffpauir went 5-for-5 with his first two big-league homers, a double and five RBI against the Mets on Cubs.

The Cubs weren't trying to win tonight, but Hoffpauir almost made it happen by himself. His first major league homer came off Pedro Martinez, and he later added another one in a lefty-lefty showdown against Ricardo Rincon. He's hit .387 in 62 at-bats as a 28-year-old rookie for the Cubs. It's quite possible that tonight's performance will be the difference in getting him a spot on the postseason roster.

Cubs recalled first baseman Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa.

Hoffpauir was one of the PCL's best players and he has hit .378 in 37 at-bats for the Cubs this season, but it's been hard finding room for him in the majors. He'll be used as a pinch-hitter for now, and he could take Daryle Ward's job next year.
