Orioles designated OF Julio Borbon for assignment.

Borbon was just re-added to the roster on Saturday but is out of a job again with the Orioles needing fresh relief arms. He's 3-for-14 in the majors this season.
Aug 28 - 11:20 AM

Orioles purchased the contract of OF Julio Borbon from Double-A Bowie.

With Adam Jones sidelined with a hamstring injury, Borbon is being added once again to provide depth in the outfield, specifically another option who can handle center field defensively. The 30-year-old is just 2-for-9 in his limited time with the O's this season.

Orioles sent OF Julio Borbon outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. Borbon was 2-for-9 in his short stay at the major league level.

Borbon was 2-for-9 in his short stay at the major league level. He will probably clear waivers.
Jul 26 - 5:43 PM

Orioles purchased the contract of OF Julio Borbon from Double-A Bowie.

Borbon last appeared in the majors in 2013, when he batted .202/.284/.279 in 117 plate appearances with the Cubs. The former Rangers prospect has tallied 20 stolen bases in 83 games this season at the Double-A level, but he's probably not worthy of much attention in standard fantasy leagues and his stay in Baltimore probably won't be very long.
Jul 19 - 5:09 PM

Orioles re-signed OF Julio Borbon to a minor league contract.

It's unclear whether he'll be invited to spring training, but either way he's not going to make the Opening Day roster. Borbon, 30, batted .269/.299/.321 with Triple-A Norfolk last season.
Mar 11 - 1:15 PM

Orioles re-signed OF Julio Borbon to a minor league contract.

The deal figures to include an invitation to spring training. Borbon batted .288/.342/.356 with five home runs and 34 stolen bases in 124 games at Triple-A last season. He will turn 29 later this month.

Orioles selected OF Julio Borbon in the minor league portion of Thursday's Rule 5 draft.

It's a nice low-risk move that adds organizational depth for the Orioles. The 27-year-old speedster slashed a meager .202/.284/.279 in 104 at-bats with the Cubs in 2013.

Cubs sent OF Julio Borbon outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Borbon cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The 27-year-old batted just .202/.284/.279 over 72 games with the club.

Cubs designated OF Julio Borbon for assignment.

Cubs skipper Dale Sveum wasn't happy with a baserunning mistake that Borbon made in the ninth inning of Friday's loss to the Dodgers, going as far as to say it changed the ballgame. That isn't the sole reason for his dismissal though, as he was hitting a paltry .200/.282/.276 with three RBI on the season.

Julio Borbon had walk-off pinch-hit single in a 6-5 win over the Reds in 14 innings on Thursday.

After sitting on the bench for around five hours, Borbon punched a two-out single through the left side to bring in Starlin Castro to end it. It was just his second RBI since being acquired claimed off waivers from the Rangers back in April. His speed is useful, but the Cubs will have to deal an outfielder for him to be fantasy relevant again.

Julio Borbon went 2-for-5 and hit a two-run homer in the Cubs' victory Monday.

It seems like a given that the Cubs will eventually trade an outfielder, whether it's Alfonso Soriano or David DeJesus. Ideally, Brett Jackson would come up and fill a starting spot when it happens, but if he's still not ready, Borbon could get an extended look. With his speed, he'd have considerable fantasy value if it happens.

Julio Borbon has stolen three bases since he joined the Cubs last month.

Borbon hasn't been playing enough to warrant an update over the past month (he's logged more than two at-bats in a game just twice since the Cubs claimed him off waivers from the Rangers on April 19). If he can secure some playing time over the summer, Borbon will be useful in NL-only formats in the batting average and steals departments. Chicago has displayed no willingness to exercise their atrophying 27-year-old outfielder, however.

Cubs claimed OF Julio Borbon off waivers from the Rangers.

The Rangers were unable to find a trade partner to unload Borbon, but plenty of teams surely put in a waiver claim for him, and the Cubs got him. He'll back up David DeJesus in center field for now but is a candidate for increased playing time down the road with a number of the Cubs' outfielders likely to be on the trade block.
