Braves signed RHP Justin Jackson to a minor league contract.
The 25-year-old has spent his seven-year minor league career in the Blue Jays organization, primarily as a shortstop before transitioning to the mound in 2013. Between High-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire in 2014 he registered a 4.66 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 45/25 K/BB ratio over 58 innings of work. Sat, Nov 22, 2014 08:41:00 AM

Blue Jays infield prospect Justin Jackson will transition to the role of starting pitcher this season.

Still just 24 years old, the former first-round pick hit a meager .230/.320/.315 over six minor league seasons as a shortstop. He's said to have a plus arm, but the right-hander is incredibly raw and unlikely to make an impact at the major league level in the near future.

Justin Jackson went 0-for-4 with three more strikeouts Friday for Single-A Dunedin.

Jackson is still regarded as one of the Jays' top prospects even though he hit .238/.340/.368 in low-A ball last season. However, he's really putting his ranking to the test this year. He's hitting .147 with just one extra-base hit and 36 strikeouts in 75 at-bats for Dunedin. Since he's just 20 and he projects as a quality defensive shortstop, he can afford a poor year with the bat. However, the rate at which he's striking out right now is completely unacceptable.

Low Single-A Lansing's Justin Jackson went 4-for-5 with a triple and a double on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Jackson is batting .311/.446/.511 with five steals in six tries. This after the 2007 supplemental first-round hit just .187 in Rookie ball last year. A toolsy shortstop, he went into the season as one of the Jays' most intriguing prospects anyway.
