Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said that the newly acquired Lucas Harrell will pitch out of the rotation.
The Rangers acquired Harrell and reliever Dario Alvarez in a trade with the Braves earlier on Wednesday. Harrell's future role with the team wasn't immediately obvious -- they could have started him or shifted him to the bullpen as a long-arm -- but Daniels cleared up the matter. Harrell will start, with his first outing in a Rangers uniform set for Sunday's showdown with the Royals. The 31-year-old right-hander held a 3.38 ERA and a 21/12 K/BB ratio in five starts (29 1/3 innings) with the Braves. Jul 27 - 7:04 PM

Rangers acquired RHP Lucas Harrell and LHP Dario Alvarez from the Braves for INF Travis Demeritte.

Harrell made five starts for the Braves this season. The 31-year-old Harrell worked to a 3.38 ERA with a 21/12 K/BB ratio across 29 1/3 innings prior to the trade. He figures to take a spot in the rotation unless the Rangers are interested in using him as a potential long-arm out of the pen.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez have been traded to the Rangers.

The Rangers are set to receive the pair of relievers, while according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, infield prospect Travis Demeritte will be heading to the Braves. Harrell holds a 3.38 ERA and 21/12 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings of relief work for the Braves while Alvarez pitched to an even 3.00 ERA with a nice 28/5 K/BB ratio across 15 frames. Both pitchers figure to slot into middle relief roles with the Rangers, assuming the trade is finalized.

Lucas Harrell tossed six scoreless innings as the Braves shut out the Twins 2-0 on Tuesday.

Harrell gave up just four hits, all singles, and walked three over his six innings. It was his best start of five to date and got him back on track after he'd lost two straight. The right-hander has a decent 3.38 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in those five outings, and he could be pitching himself out of Atlanta and into a playoff race. We'll know soon enough.
Jul 26 - 10:54 PM

Lucas Harrell surrendered four earned runs over six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Reds.

Harrell was pitching pretty well until the bottom of the sixth, when the Reds took the lead on a Jose Peraza two-run single and a Tucker Barnhart two-run homer. Harrell pitched well in his first two starts with the Braves and he even showed flashes Wednesday, but his last two overall lines do not look pretty. He gets the Twins on the road next.
Jul 20 - 3:17 PM

Lucas Harrell was rocked for seven runs -- five earned -- in only 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.

The game was in Atlanta, so Harrell can't play the Coors Field excuse card. He gave up seven hits, walked three and fanned four. The unearned runs scored on his own error. He entered the game with a 1.32 ERA from his first two starts, but that jumped to a 3.63 ERA after tonight's debacle. The 31-year-old journeyman doesn't hold much interest for fantasy owners.
Jul 16 - 12:02 AM

Lucas Harrell limited the Marlins to one run over six innings in his 2016 debut Saturday.

Harrell, who hadn't pitched in the majors since 2014, gave up just three hits and a walk while striking out five in the win. It was certainly impressive, but his 3.06 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in the minors this year suggest he's not likely to have found some magic formula. Even so, the Braves have no reason not to give him more opportunities at the major league level, with his next likely coming Thursday against the Cubs.
Jul 2 - 6:51 PM

Braves purchased the contract of RHP Lucas Harrell from Triple-A Gwinnett.

He'll make his season debut on Saturday against the Marlins. The 31-year-old hurler hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2014, and owns a 3.06 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 47/35 K/BB ratio over 61 2/3 innings in the minor leagues this season. He isn't worth a look in any formats.
Jul 2 - 2:34 PM

Braves signed RHP Lucas Harrell to a minor league contract.

The Tigers released him on Monday. Harrell has posted a respectable 3.34 ERA in six minor league starts this year. The 30-year-old played in Korea last season following a four-year stint with the Astros. The Braves have already assigned Harrell to Triple-A Gwinnett.
May 21 - 11:21 PM

Tigers signed RHP Lucas Harrell to a minor league contract.

The deal does not include an invitation to major league camp. Harrell posted an underwhelming 4.93 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 151/108 K/BB ratio in 171 2/3 innings last season for the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization. Expect him to wind up at Triple-A Toledo.
Mar 7 - 11:35 AM

Lucas Harrell worked out for the Tigers on Thursday.

The right-hander hasn't pitched in the majors since 2014, when he had a 9.49 ERA in three starts with the Astros. He pitched for Korea's LG Twins last season, going 10-11 with a 4.93 ERA in 171 2/3 innings. Harrell is expected to work out for other clubs before signing what will almost certainly be a minor league contract.

Feb 18 - 9:25 PM

Lucas Harrell has agreed to a one-year, $900,000 contract with Korea's LG Twins.

The 29-year-old right-hander had a 9.49 ERA in three starts this past season with the Astros and likely would have had to settle for a non-guaranteed minor league contract had he remained in the United States. Harrell may try to return to MLB if things go well for him next season in the Korean Baseball Organization.

Diamondbacks released RHP Lucas Harrell.

Harrell posted a promising 3.76 ERA in 193 2/3 innings for the Astros in 2012, but it's been a steep fall from grace since then. He was designated for assignment by Houston early this season and did not perform well for the Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate in Reno. The 29-year-old righty could struggle to make it back to the major leagues.

Diamondbacks acquired RHP Lucas Harrell from the Astros in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations; assigned him to Triple-A Reno.

Harrell had been designated for assignment by the Astros earlier this month after posting a 9.49 ERA in three starts. He'll provide the Diamondbacks with some starting pitching depth in the minors.

Astros sent RHP Lucas Harrell outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Harrell was designated for assignment by Houston last week after posting a 9.49 ERA in three starts. The right-hander passed through waivers without drawing a claim.
