Lucas Harrell has elected free agency.
He was removed from the Rangers' 40-man roster earlier this week and has exercised his ability to test the open market. Harrell posted a 4.21 ERA and 36/25 K/BB ratio in 47 innings between the Braves and Rangers in 2016 and will probably have to settle for a minor league deal this winter. Oct 28 - 1:34 PM

Rangers sent RHP Lucas Harrell outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Harrell's season came to an abbreviated end due to a right groin strain suffered in mid-August. Prior to being waylaid by injury, the 31-year-old reliever held a 4.21 ERA and 36/25 K/BB ratio in 47 innings between the Braves and Rangers.

Rangers transferred RHP Lucas Harrell from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move cleared a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim R.J. Alvarez. Harrell is now effectively ruled out for the season with a groin injury.

Lucas Harrell (groin) hopes to resume playing catch soon.

"Last few days I’ve made great strides," he said Saturday. "Once I start getting my range of motion back I should be ready to go." Harrell is expected to rejoin the Rangers as a reliever when he's ready.

Rangers placed RHP Lucas Harrell on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Harrell was pulled after two innings after feeling tightness in the right groin against the A's on Tuesday. He was subsequently diagnosed with a strain. After undergoing an MRI on Wednesday, the Rangers determined that it would be best to shut down the veteran right-hander. There is no current timetable for his return. Derek Holland (shoulder) could replace him in the rotation come this weekend.

Lucas Harrell (groin) will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

Harrell felt tightness in his right groin early in the second inning of Tuesday's start against the A's. He did not come out for the third inning and has been diagnosed with a strain. Thursday's MRI figures to shine more light on whether Harrell can expect to spend time on the disabled list.

Lucas Harrell was diagnosed with a right groin strain after leaving his start Tuesday night against the A's.

Harrell had surrendered one run on four walks and three hits over the first two innings of the game. He could be headed to the 15-day disabled list, with Derek Holland (shoulder) likely to replace him in the Rangers' rotation this Saturday.
Aug 16 - 8:58 PM

Lucas Harrell was lifted with an apparent injury before the third inning of his start Tuesday versus the Athletics.

Harrell had given up four walks and three hits in two innings, though the A's were only able to turn that into a single run. There should be an update soon.
Aug 16 - 8:49 PM

Lucas Harrell surrendered six runs in six innings Thursday in a no-decision versus the Rockies.

After a solid first start for Texas, Harrell has faltered his last two times out. His hold on a rotation spot isn't secure at all.
Aug 11 - 6:37 PM

Lucas Harrell wasn't able to go deep into Saturday's matchup with his former team, allowing one run over 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Astros.

Harrell managed to avoid any major damage, but he flirted with danger all night. The right-hander gave up five hits and walked five, needing 92 pitches to get those 11 outs. He's got a 3.72 ERA in a pair of starts since coming over from the Braves ahead of the trade deadline, and Harrell will draw a familiar foe on Thursday when a National League club, the Rockies, visits.
Aug 6 - 11:50 PM

Lucas Harrell won his first start with the Rangers on Sunday, holding the Royals to three runs in six innings.

It looked like things might get ugly for Harrell when Eric Hosmer homered in the top of the first inning, but the Royals didn't get to him again until the fifth. Harrell yielded just four hits in all, though he did walk three. He carries an impressive 3.57 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 35 1/3 innings (six starts) this season between the Rangers and Braves.
Jul 31 - 5:35 PM

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said that the newly acquired Lucas Harrell will pitch out of the rotation.

The Rangers acquired Harrell and reliever Dario Alvarez in a trade with the Braves earlier on Wednesday. Harrell's future role with the team wasn't immediately obvious -- they could have started him or shifted him to the bullpen as a long-arm -- but Daniels cleared up the matter. Harrell will start, with his first outing in a Rangers uniform set for Sunday's showdown with the Royals. The 31-year-old right-hander held a 3.38 ERA and a 21/12 K/BB ratio in five starts (29 1/3 innings) with the Braves.
Jul 27 - 7:04 PM

Rangers acquired RHP Lucas Harrell and LHP Dario Alvarez from the Braves for INF Travis Demeritte.

Harrell made five starts for the Braves this season. The 31-year-old Harrell worked to a 3.38 ERA with a 21/12 K/BB ratio across 29 1/3 innings prior to the trade. He figures to take a spot in the rotation unless the Rangers are interested in using him as a potential long-arm out of the pen.
Jul 27 - 5:59 PM

MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez have been traded to the Rangers.

The Rangers are set to receive the pair of relievers, while according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, infield prospect Travis Demeritte will be heading to the Braves. Harrell holds a 3.38 ERA and 21/12 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings of relief work for the Braves while Alvarez pitched to an even 3.00 ERA with a nice 28/5 K/BB ratio across 15 frames. Both pitchers figure to slot into middle relief roles with the Rangers, assuming the trade is finalized.
Jul 27 - 5:48 PM

Lucas Harrell tossed six scoreless innings as the Braves shut out the Twins 2-0 on Tuesday.

Harrell gave up just four hits, all singles, and walked three over his six innings. It was his best start of five to date and got him back on track after he'd lost two straight. The right-hander has a decent 3.38 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in those five outings, and he could be pitching himself out of Atlanta and into a playoff race. We'll know soon enough.
