Brewers claimed 3B Matt Dominguez off waivers from the Astros; optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Dominguez was designated for assignment by the Astros last week after batting .251/.289/.371 over 45 games this season in Triple-A. The 25-year-old will give the Brewers some minor league depth for now, but could take over at third base if the team trades Aramis Ramirez in the coming weeks.

Astros designated 3B Matt Dominguez for assignment.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for shortstop Carlos Correa, who will make his major league debut on Monday night. Dominguez was batting .251/.289/.371 in 45 games this season at the Triple-A level, but he's a former top prospect and only 25 years old so there may be interest from other organizations.

Astros optioned 3B Matt Dominguez to Triple-A Fresno.

He batted just .250/.282/.250 this spring. With Luis Valbuena at the hot corner now and Colin Moran on the way, Dominguez's days as a starter in Houston are likely over.

Matt Dominguez has been asked to try his hand at first base this year.

"(Astros manager A.J. Hinch) thinks I’m going to be a third baseman, but he wants to also help me try to make the team by adding a little more versatility and move around a little bit more," Dominguez said. "Do whatever I need to do." The Astros' acquisition of Luis Valbuena moves Dominguez into a part-time role, so it would help him get on the field if he could play more positions. Dominguez, 25, hit .215/.256/.330 as an everyday player last season.

Matt Dominguez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a win over the Rangers on Sunday.

Dominguez had an RBI single in the second inning before swatting a game-tying home run in the eighth. The homer was his 15th of the season, giving him 53 RBI. Dominguez is batting a forgettable .224/.267/.349 as the Astros starting third baseman.

Matt Dominguez went 0-for-3 in Thursday's loss to the Yankees.

Dominguez, making outs like no one else in baseball right now, is batting .203 with just two walks in 123 at-bats since the All-Star break. He's hit for more power than expected as a major leaguer, but he's never been the defensive dynamo that he came advertised as while in the minors. It might actually be a good thing for him that the Astros acquired Colin Moran from the Marlins in the Jarrod Cosart deal; if they didn't have a third base prospect worth waiting on, the position would be an obvious place to try to upgrade at this winter. As is, they might as well give Dominguez another year and see what happens with Moran and Rio Ruiz.

Matt Dominguez singled and hit a two-run home run in four at-bats in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox.

Dominguez's fourth-inning blast off of Allen Webster extended the Astros' lead to 4-0 at the time, but the lead would not last. The third baseman last homered on July 28. He's slashing a mediocre .231/.273/.360 with 14 home runs and 50 RBI on the year.

Matt Dominguez went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Dominguez had an RBI single in the fourth inning, and he brought in another run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The third baseman also doubled in the game, his 16th double of the season. The two-hit game was Dominguez' first multi-hit game since July 20 as his average has dropped to .230 on the year.

Matt Dominguez drove in four runs and finished 3-for-5 as the Astros defeated the White Sox on Sunday.

Dominguez entered the contest having driven in only two runs in his previous 18 contests. He singled in a run in the third inning, belted a two-run home run in the fifth, and doubled in a run in the seventh. Quite the productive day for the third baseman, who has otherwise had a forgettable season. Dominguez is slashing .239/.286/.375 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI.

Matt Dominguez finished 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Astros past the Rays 7-3 on Saturday.

Dominguez was buried in a slump heading into the afternoon game and snapped out of it in a big way, singling in the second inning and smacking a three-run double with the bases loaded in the third. He's still batting just .246/.299/.395 on the season, but the 24-year-old third baseman can boast nine home runs and 30 RBI.

Matt Dominguez went 3-for-4 with a solo homer against the Twins on Friday.

It was his first three-hit game of the season. Dominguez is up to nine home runs on the year and has a chance to top the 21 he hit last year.

Matt Dominguez went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a win over the Mariners on Sunday.

The multi-hit game was his first since May 19, and he hadn't scored a run since May 18. Dominguez owns a .254/.308/.420 line through 50 games.
Sun, May 25, 2014 07:55:00 PM

Matt Dominguez hit a pair of two-run homers off John Danks as part of the Astros' 8-2 win over the White Sox on Sunday.

Dominguez, who drove in 77 runs last season, entered today's game with just 14 RBI in 42 games. Obviously, this one helps his pace a bit. He's a zero in steals and below average in batting average and runs scored, so he has to keep showing power to be an adequate fantasy third baseman.

Matt Dominguez was the Astros entire offense in Friday's loss to the Rangers, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

Those two singles, including one to break up Yu Darvish's perfect game in the sixth inning, were the only hits that the Astros would muster in 12 innings against Rangers pitching. Even with the two knocks, Dominguez is hitting a meager .171/.250/.400 on the season.
