Athletics released INF Nick Noonan.

Noonan was trying to win a job with the Athletics as a utility player this spring. The 28-year-old will likely find a job with an organization at the Triple-A level because of his versatility.

Athletics signed INF Nick Noonan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Noonan started the 2017 campaign in the Brewers' minor league system before getting traded to the Marlins in May for cash considerations. He didn't see any time at the MLB level with either team. The 28-year-old infielder last played in the bigs for the Padres in 2016 and holds a career line of .193/.239/.234 in 155 plate appearances. We wouldn't expect him to crack the A's roster out of camp.

He's been assigned to Triple-A New Orleans. Noonan was hitting .212 for Triple-A Colorado Springs before landing on the disabled list about a month ago. The 28-year-old has made 83 big league appearances including seven for the Padres last season.

Brewers signed INF Nick Noonan to a minor league contract.

Noonan batted just .167 with a .200 on-base percentage in 20 plate appearances last season for the Padres, and he slashed .091/.167/.273 with the Giants in 2015. The 27-year-old former supplemental first-round pick will operate as organizational infield depth for Milwaukee.

Nick Noonan has elected to become a free agent.

Noonan was pushed off the Padres' 40-man roster late last month after batting .167 with a .367 OPS in 20 major league plate appearances. The 27-year-old infielder will likely have to settle for a minor league contract this offseason.
