Blue Jays signed RHP Phillippe Aumont to a minor league contract.
Aumont elected free agency last month after being removed from the Phillies' 40-man roster and now the Canada native finds himself in the Toronto organization. The former top prospect is merely a depth guy at this point. Jul 24 - 4:01 PM

Phillippe Aumont has elected to become a free agent.

Aumont was designated for assignment by the Phillies last week after allowing six runs on five hits and seven walks in a start against the Cardinals. The tall right-hander has decent raw stuff and he's only 26 years old, so there will probably be interest from other teams. But the control problems are something he may never master.

Phillies designated RHP Phillippe Aumont for assignment.

This move doesn't come as a major surprise after Aumont allowed six runs on five hits while walking seven Cardinals on Friday. He'll presumably pass through waivers unclaimed and remain as organizational depth for the Phillies.
Jun 20 - 3:22 PM

Phillippe Aumont really struggled in his first major league start, giving up six runs on five hits and seven walks over four innings.

Cole Hamels (hamstring) was scratched from Friday's start due to a mild hamstring strain, so Aumont started in his place. It was ugly. he threw just 56 out of 105 pitches for strikes while giving up two home runs. The seven walks were a most for a Phillies starting pitcher since Paul Abbott issued nine walks on August 7, 2004. Control has been an issue throughout Aumont's career, so this sort of performance didn't sneak up on anyone. The Phillies will have to hope that Hamels will be ready to make his next start.

Phillies recalled RHP Phillippe Aumont from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Aumont will fill in on Friday against the Cardinals for Cole Hamels (hamstring) in what will be his first big league start. The righty has posted a 2.35 ERA at Lehigh Valley this season but has walked 41 over 65 innings. He holds a career 6.13 ERA over 45 relief appearances in the majors.
Jun 19 - 3:23 PM

Phillippe Aumont will make a spot start for the Phillies on Friday night against the Cardinals.

It's Cole Hamels' turn in the rotation, but he's been scratched with a mild right hamstring strain. Aumont has never made a start at the major league level and he owns a 6.13 career ERA. Avoid him for fantasy purposes.
Jun 18 - 12:13 PM

Phillies sent RHP Phillippe Aumont outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The 26-year-old was once a relatively highly touted prospect and boasted a 10.6 K/9 in the minors last season, but that wasn't enough for anyone to claim Aumont off waivers. Despite the arm talent, he's yet to sip more than a few cups of coffee at the major league level.
Apr 1 - 8:52 AM

Phillies optioned RHP Phillippe Aumont to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Aumont, 25, has been awful in limited exposure at the big league level this year, allowing six runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings (14.73 ERA and 2.72 WHIP). The former top prospect retains superb velocity, but walking nearly a batter an inning isn't going to hack it at the sport's highest level.

Phillies recalled RHP Phillippe Aumont from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Aumont has allowed four runs over 1 2/3 relief innings with the big club this season. The former top prospect still throws hard but control issues have kept him from reaching his potential.

Phillies recalled RHP Phillippe Aumont from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Aumont has struck out 26 over 24 innings at Lehigh Valley this season, but he's also walked 21 while posting a 4.12 ERA. He'll be used in low-leverage situations.

Phillies optioned RHP Phillippe Aumont to minor league camp.

Aumont might have sealed his own fate Friday, allowing two runs while recording only one out in taking the loss. The 25-year-old had a 4.05 ERA with just three strikeouts this spring. There's a good chance Aumont will be in Philadelphia sometime before the year is over.

Phillippe Aumont believes that he fixed a mechanical flaw in his delivery, which led to the poor results and inconsistency he experienced in 2013.

The 25-year-old hurler compiled a 4.19 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 19/13 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings with the Phillies in 2013. He still has elite stuff, so if the correction can lead to improved command, he could be a name to watch as a setup man in the Phillies bullpen.

Phillippe Aumont is working on his control in the minors.

Aumont is still walking a batter per inning in the minors, and the Phillies still believe the young hurler is headstrong, but there's hope that the 11th-overall pick in the 2007 draft will eventually figure it out. "He's doing everything he's asked to do," Triple-A Lehigh Valley manager Dave Brundage said. "Trying to make some adjustments here and there. And I think Philippe Aumont has to make those adjustments. It's up to him. It's not anyone else, it's not anything that we can say or do. We can help him, and everyone wants to help him. He shows glimpses of it." Aumont, who was demoted last month, posted a 4.19 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in 19 1/3 innings at the major league level.
