Indians manager Terry Francona said Monday that he wants Michael Bourn to run more in 2015.
"We've talked to Bournie a lot," said Francona. "He's one of the most conscientious and nicest kids you'll ever meet. But quite frankly, whether it's because of injuries or not, he hasn't been the kind of guy who wreaks the havoc that we kind of envisioned when we signed him when it comes to stolen bases." Bourn averaged 51 stolen bases in his first five full seasons but has just 33 total over the last two seasons and has been caught 18 times. He tore his hamstring at the end of 2013 and had leg issues for much of 2014, which no doubt affected him on the bases. Bourn is healthy now, though, and has been training with former Olympian sprinter Leroy Burrell this offseason. He's now 32, but Bourn could rebound a bit in the stolen base department in 2015. Bourn's three-bagger led things off in the bottom of the first inning, and he later tacked on a single in his last at-bat. The speedy outfielder now has an American League-leading 11 triples on the season and has six multi-hit efforts in his last 13 tries.

Michael Bourn went 0-for-2 but drew two walks and stole a base in Sunday's loss to the Orioles.

Bourn has gone hitless in both of his games since returning from the disabled list, but the stolen base is encouraging. The speedy center fielder has just eight pilfers over 68 games this season, as he's battled leg issues.

Indians activated OF Michael Bourn from the 15-day disabled list.

Bourn has been out since early July with a left hamstring strain. Manager Terry Francona has said the outfielder will not be ready to play every day upon his return, and he's in fact not in the lineup on Friday. That news, combined with the fact that he's coming back from another hamstring injury, makes him a sketchy fantasy proposition.

Michael Bourn (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

He'll play one final rehab game at Triple-A Columbus on Thursday in the designated hitter spot before rejoining Indians on Friday for the weekend series versus the Orioles. Manager Terry Francona has said that Bourn won't play every day right away, and the outfielder also might not run much since he's coming back from another left hamstring injury. Fantasy owners should probably keep him on the bench initially.

Indians manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that he expects Michael Bourn (hamstring) to be activated from the disabled list this weekend.

"Bournie is doing really well," said Francona. "The last game he played he got down to first at 4.1 seconds, some sub 4.2s. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays for us sometime this weekend. We've just got to sit down with Bournie and see how to get him to the weekend. We have a day off Thursday and having him sit for a couple of days might not make sense." Francona noted that Bourn won't be ready to play every day once activated, as the Tribe will ease him back into things after he missed the last five weeks of action.

Michael Bourn (hamstring) continued his minor league rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Columbus and went 1-for-4 with a single.

He served as the designated hitter. Bourn went 0-for-10 with five strikeouts over three rehab games in Double-A, but the good news is that he hasn't had any issues with his hamstring. He'll likely play a few more games in Triple-A before being activated. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined for over a month with a left hamstring strain.

Michael Bourn (hamstring) did some light running on the field Thursday.

Bourn will eventually progress to running the bases once he's comfortable. He'll be ready for a rehab assignment at that point, though it's still totally up in the air as to when that will come. The outfielder has been out since early July with a left hamstring strain.
