Orioles released OF Michael Bourn.
Bourn exercised his opt-out Tuesday after the O's couldn't find a spot for him on the major league roster. The veteran outfielder was batting .220/.373/.317 in 51 plate appearances this season with Triple-A Norfolk. Again a free agent, he'll likely have to settle for another minor league deal. According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Michael Bourn has exercised the opt-out in his minor league contract with the Orioles.

The Orioles now have to decide whether to add him to the major league roster. Bourn, 34, is batting just .220 (9-for-41) through 11 games with Triple-A Norfolk. He'll likely end up hitting the free agent market.
May 23 - 3:49 PM

Michael Bourn's opt-out date is Monday.

Right now it doesn't sound like the Orioles have any plans to call up Bourn, who is hitting a lowly .188 in 32 at-bat for Triple-A Norfolk. Even if Bourn exercises his opt-out clause, we doubt his phone will be ringing off the hook with big league offers. The 34-year-old's career appears to be on its last leg.

Michael Bourn has joined Triple-A Norfolk's roster.

Bourn played a bit in extended spring training to knock off the rust after recovering from a fractured ring finger. He's expected to need about a week of games before becoming an option for the Orioles, although it doesn't seem to be a given that he'd be added to the big league roster at that time.

Michael Bourn (finger) played five innings in an extended spring training game Tuesday.

The veteran outfielder had no issues and should soon advance to full games at the Orioles' spring training facility in Sarasota, Florida. Bourn suffered a fractured right ring finger back in late February. He will likely be stationed at Triple-A Norfolk once he's deemed fully healthy.

Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports confirms the report and adds that Bourn will report to extended spring training. Apr 10 - 7:20 PM

Orioles released OF Michael Bourn.

Bourn fractured his right ring finger before Grapefruit League contests got underway and won't be game-ready until sometime in April, at least. He requested his release and is now free to sign elsewhere on what's sure to be a minor league contract. Bourn is nothing more than a bit player at this point in his career.
Mar 27 - 6:08 PM

Orioles manager Buck Showalter noted Thursday that Michael Bourn (finger) might not be ready until mid-April.

Bourn is rehabbing a broken ring finger on his right hand and probably won't take any at-bats in the Grapefruit League. The veteran outfielder signed a non-guaranteed minor league contract with Baltimore in late February.
Mar 2 - 11:05 AM

Michael Bourn is expected to miss the next four weeks due to a broken ring finger on his right hand.

Bourn just re-signed with the O's this week and was expected to compete for a reserve outfielder role. He should still have enough time to get ready for the regular season, but this could impact his chances to crack the Opening Day roster.

The Orioles re-signed Bourn to a minor-league contract on Monday. Should he crack the major league roster, he will make $2 million. There is a March 25 opt-out clause on that minors contract. Bourn, 34, played in 24 games with the O's in 2016, slashing .283/.358/.435 with a pair of homers, eight RBI and two steals. Feb 20 - 7:28 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles remain interested in Michael Bourn.

In other words, nothing has changed from a month ago. Bourn, 34, made a favorable impression with the Orioles down the stretch last season by batting .283/.358/.435 with two home runs, eight RBI and two steals in 24 games. The club just acquired Seth Smith in recent days and continue to be linked to Mark Trumbo, so Bourn would likely be more of a fourth outfielder and backup center fielder.
