Orioles released OF Michael Bourn.
Bourn exercised his opt-out Tuesday after the O's couldn't find a spot for him on the major league roster. The veteran outfielder was batting .220/.373/.317 in 51 plate appearances this season with Triple-A Norfolk. Again a free agent, he'll likely have to settle for another minor league deal. Michael Bourn's opt-out date is Monday.

Right now it doesn't sound like the Orioles have any plans to call up Bourn, who is hitting a lowly .188 in 32 at-bat for Triple-A Norfolk. Even if Bourn exercises his opt-out clause, we doubt his phone will be ringing off the hook with big league offers. The 34-year-old's career appears to be on its last leg.

Michael Bourn has joined Triple-A Norfolk's roster.

Bourn played a bit in extended spring training to knock off the rust after recovering from a fractured ring finger. He's expected to need about a week of games before becoming an option for the Orioles, although it doesn't seem to be a given that he'd be added to the big league roster at that time.

Michael Bourn is expected to miss the next four weeks due to a broken ring finger on his right hand.

Feb 20 - 7:28 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles remain interested in Michael Bourn.

In other words, nothing has changed from a month ago. Bourn, 34, made a favorable impression with the Orioles down the stretch last season by batting .283/.358/.435 with two home runs, eight RBI and two steals in 24 games. The club just acquired Seth Smith in recent days and continue to be linked to Mark Trumbo, so Bourn would likely be more of a fourth outfielder and backup center fielder.
