Neil Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning of relief against the Angels on Friday.

This is an important spring for Ramirez, who has plenty of talent, but was limited to just 19 appearances last season due to shoulder and abdominal injuries. The 26-year-old is out of options and would almost certainly be claimed if the Cubs expose him to waivers.

Neil Ramirez (shoulder) is expected to throw off the mound on Wednesday.

Ramirez is currently on the mend from right shoulder inflammation. There's no structural damage in the shoulder. Neil Ramirez (shoulder) has been playing catch in Arizona but has yet to throw off a mound.

The Cubs are taking it slow with their right-hander, who hit the shelf on April 17 with right shoulder inflammation. Ramirez doesn't have any structural damage so he should be back at some point. When that will be remains unclear.
