Giants signed RHP Neil Ramirez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Ramirez appeared in 18 games this past season between the Cubs, Brewers, and Twins while posting a 6.00 ERA and 24/18 K/BB ratio over 24 innings. The 27-year-old has shown real potential at times, but shoulder issues have gotten in the way. The Giants are willing to take a chance on him, though. Tue, Nov 22, 2016 04:03:00 PM

Neil Ramirez has elected free agency.

Ramirez was removed from the Twins' 40-man roster in the middle of the season. The 27-year-old has been effective at times in the past but hasn't been the same since his shoulder issues cropped up.

Twins sent RHP Neil Ramirez outright to Triple-A Rochester.

Ramirez joined the Twins after they claimed him off waivers from the Brewers in mid-June. He saw 14 2/3 innings of work with the Twins prior to being optioned down the river. In that space, the 27-year-old right-hander was rocked for 10 runs on 15 hits.

Twins claimed RHP Neil Ramirez off waivers from the Brewers.

Ramirez has given up six runs on seven hits over 9 1/3 innings with the Brewers and Cubs this season, but he's shown promise in the past and is worth a flier. He'll work in middle relief.

Brewers designated RHP Neil Ramirez for assignment.

Ramirez's time with the Brewers turned out to be a brief one. The team claimed him off waivers from the Cubs on May 31. Just past a week later, they, too, have opted to designate him for assignment. Between the Cubs and the Brewers, the 27-year-old right-hander allowed six runs on seven hits over 9 1/3 innings. He held a 13/8 K/BB ratio in that space. Ramirez posted a 1.44 ERA in 43 2/3 innings in his Cubs debut in 2014.

Brewers claimed RHP Neil Ramirez off waivers from the Cubs.

Ramirez was designated for assignment 10 days ago and he'll end up staying in the division. The 27-year-old has walked eight batters in just 7 2/3 innings in the majors this season and has an injury history, but he's a worthwhile flyer for a rebuilding team.

Cubs designated RHP Neil Ramirez for assignment.

Matt Szczur was activated from the disabled list in the corresponding move. Ramirez has struggled to a 4.70 ERA over eight relief outings this year. He'll catch on as a middle relief arm somewhere else.

Neil Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning of relief against the Angels on Friday.

This is an important spring for Ramirez, who has plenty of talent, but was limited to just 19 appearances last season due to shoulder and abdominal injuries. The 26-year-old is out of options and would almost certainly be claimed if the Cubs expose him to waivers.

Cubs placed RHP Neil Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 26, with left abdominal soreness.

The feeling had been that Ramirez was having more shoulder issues, but apparently it was more of an abdominal problem. Either way, he's going to be out for a while.

Neil Ramirez could be placed back on the disabled list due to recurring right shoulder issues.

Ramirez hasn’t pitched since Saturday and had trouble warming up during Tuesday's game. He returned to action a month ago after missing two months with his shoulder woes and it appears he could be facing another extended absence.

Cubs activated RHP Neil Ramirez from the 15-day disabled list.

Ramirez has missed the last two months of action due to inflammation in his right shoulder, but looked sharp over three minor league rehab outings. He'll give skipper Joe Maddon another option out of the bullpen to protect leads in the late innings.
