Chris Gimenez went 1-for-1 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the A's.

Gimenez cracked a solo home run off Sean Manaea to lead off the sixth inning. That homer would represent the only run the Indians managed on the evening. That little power showing aside, the year has mostly been a struggle for Gimenez, who is hitting just .220/.262/.347 with four homers and 11 RBI over 118 at-bats. There is no fantasy intrigue here.

Chris Gimenez (ankle) has resumed throwing.

And the area around his left ankle that became infected late this spring is finally beginning to show improvement. Gimenez should start swinging a bat by early next week and will probably be fully recovered by the middle of May. Texas opened the 2016 regular season with a ton of depth at catcher, but Robinson Chirinos (forearm) is going to be sidelined for the remainder of the first half. Gimenez, a .218/.303/.336 career hitter, is suddenly looking useful.

Chris Gimenez could begin the season on the disabled list due to an infection in his left ankle.

It's possible he'll try and resume baseball activities Wednesday. "It's going to be tough for him to start the season if he is banged up," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "Right now, we're trying to get him through to where he is available. Right now, he is not available." If Gimenez can't make it back in time for Opening Day, the Rangers will carry either Bobby Wilson or Michael McKenry Robinson Chirinos' backup.
