Chris Gimenez blasted a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning on Sunday as the Twins topped the Tigers in their regular season finale.

Gimenez came on to hit for Miguel Sano and crushed a Drew VerHagen offering into the stratosphere. The veteran backstop finishes the regular season slashing .220/.350/.382 with seven homers and 16 RBI.

Chris Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a double in Thursday's loss to the White Sox.

With Jason Castro dealing with concussion-like symptoms after taking a pair of foul tips to the mask on Wednesday, Gimenez drew Thursday's start behind the dish. The veteran backstop has done little with the bat this season and is hitting just .207/.324/.372 with six homers and 14 RBI across 145 at-bats.
Aug 24 - 11:07 PM

Chris Gimenez homered twice and drove in four runs as the Twins topped the Mariners 6-2 on Thursday.

It's the first career two-homer game for Gimenez, who has played in a total of 319 games since debuting with the Indians in 2009. He did have four RBI once before, that on Aug. 27, 2010 against the Royals. The outburst probably won't get him additional at-bats. As Jason Castro's backup, he'll continue to play versus the occasional left-hander.
Jun 15 - 4:58 PM

Chris Gimenez crushed his first home run of the season as the Twins beat the Royals in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.

His solo shot in the fourth inning increased the Twins' advantage to 6-3. He finished the afternoon 1-for-4 and is now hitting .200/.321/.333 with three RBI in his limited action this season.

Twins purchased the contract of C Chris Gimenez from Triple-A Rochester.

He beat out John Ryan Murphy for the backup catcher job behind starter Jason Castro. The well-traveled 34-year-old has caught for five clubs since 2011. Gimenez isn't known for his offense. He's just a .218 lifetime hitter at the major league level.
Mar 30 - 5:40 PM

Twins signed C Chris Gimenez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Gimenez appeared in 68 games with the Indians last season and owns a .218/.297/.335 batting line over 776 plate appearances in the majors. The 34-year-old will provide some useful depth behind the plate for Minnesota.
Jan 12 - 4:28 PM

Chris Gimenez has elected free agency.

The Indians outrighted Gimenez off their 40-man roster, although they are interested in bringing him back on a minor league deal. Gimenez is a career .218/.297/.335 hitter over parts of eight major league seasons.

Indians sent C Chris Gimenez outright to Triple-A Columbus.

He can declare free agency if he wants and seems likely to do just that. Gimenez is a career .218/.297/.335 hitter over parts of eight major league seasons.

Chris Gimenez went 1-for-1 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the A's.

Gimenez cracked a solo home run off Sean Manaea to lead off the sixth inning. That homer would represent the only run the Indians managed on the evening. That little power showing aside, the year has mostly been a struggle for Gimenez, who is hitting just .220/.262/.347 with four homers and 11 RBI over 118 at-bats. There is no fantasy intrigue here.

Chris Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a home run in a win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Gimenez hit a solo homer off Chris Sale in the fourth inning, because you can't predict baseball. The homer was his second of the season after being dealt to the Indians in early May. Appearing in 10 games, the 33-year-old backstop is hitting .231/.259/.462 while spelling Yan Gomes.

Chris Gimenez (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with Double-A Frisco.

Gimenez was forced to begin the season on the disabled list due to an infection in his ankle, but he's feeling better now and could be ready to join the Rangers within a few days. Bryan Holaday and Brett Nicholas are currently sharing catching duties with Robinson Chirinos (forearm) sidelined.

Gimenez is over his late-spring ankle infection and could be ready for activation by the end of April. Texas can really use him after losing Robinson Chirinos (forearm) for the first half of the season.
