Chris Gimenez went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored against the Twins on Tuesday.
Gimenez had two singles, giving him nine hits in 21 at-bats since he was promoted. With Geovany Soto still sidelined and Robinson Chirinos struggling at the plate, Gimenez could see more playing time in the near future. Catcher-needy owners in AL-only leagues, take note. May 27 - 11:05 PM

Chris Gimenez went 4-for-5 with an RBI against the Tigers on Thursday.

That's more hits than J.P. Arencibia had in the first 7 1/2 weeks of the season. Well, almost. Gimenez was making his second straight start, so it looks like he'll probably play more than Robinson Chirinos until Geovany Soto returns. That gives him value in AL-only leagues.
May 22 - 5:01 PM

Rangers purchased the contract of C Chris Gimenez from Triple-A Round Rock.

Gimenez was hitting .259/.352/.435 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 31 games this season at the Triple-A level. He will share time at catcher with Robinson Chirinos until Geovany Soto (knee) is ready to return.
May 20 - 4:36 PM

Rangers re-signed C Chris Gimenez to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock.

Gimenez elected to become a free agent after the Rangers outrighted him off their 40-man roster last week, but he didn't draw much interest and is now back with the organization. The 31-year-old catcher is a .199/.292/.293 career hitter at the major league level.
Apr 10 - 12:50 PM

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that free agent catcher Chris Gimenez is drawing interest from the Cubs, Athletics, Rays and Rangers.

All teams have reportedly made offers, which are presumably of the minor league variety. The 31-year-old will function as organizational depth wherever he lands.
Apr 7 - 5:51 PM

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Chris Gimenez is deciding between several minor league offers.

One of them is believed to be from the Rays, where Gimenez played the previous two seasons. He'll be nothing more than organizational depth wherever he ends up.
Apr 6 - 4:21 PM

Chris Gimenez has elected free agency.

While it may have been in his best interest to remain in the Rangers organization with their bleak catching situation, he could generate some interest on the open market. He won't be relevant in fantasy leagues unless he works his way into a platoon situation somewhere though.
Apr 5 - 1:19 PM

Rangers sent C Chris Gimenez outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Gimenez has 72 hours to accept the assignment or decline it and become a free agent. Given the Rangers' current catching situation, he would probably be wise to remain in the organization.
Apr 3 - 7:09 PM

Rangers designated C Chris Gimenez for assignment.

The Rangers claimed Gimenez off waivers from the A's at the end of spring training but only wound up carrying him on their active roster for a couple days. J.P. Arencibia will serve as the Rangers' primary catcher while Geovany Soto (knee) is sidelined and Robinson Chirinos will be the backup.
Apr 1 - 4:31 PM

Rangers claimed C Chris Gimenez off waivers from the Athletics.

With Geovany Soto (knee) expected to miss the first few months of the season, Gimenez will give the club some more catching depth. He's a career .199/.292/.293 across parts of five seasons.
Mar 28 - 3:06 PM

Athletics claimed UTIL Chris Gimenez off waivers from the Rays.

Gimenez is a career .199/.292/.293 across parts of five seasons, but his versatility can be useful, as the 31-year-old can play five different positions. With Josh Jaso, Derek Norris and Stephen Vogt already around Gimenez will have to show off that versatility if he wants a shot at making the Opening Day roster.

Rays recalled C/OF Chris Gimenez from Triple-A Durham.

Gimenez will function in a super-utility role for the Rays. While he’s primarily played behind the dish, Gimenez has also seen time at both corner outfield and both corner infield positions for the Bulls this season.

Rays optioned C Chris Gimenez to Triple-A Durham; reassigned OFs Shelley Duncan and Jason Bourgeois and INF Mike Fontenot to minor league camp.

With Gimenez's demotion, that means Jose Lobaton has earned the backup catcher job. With his versatility, Gimenez should get a shot with the big club eventually.

Chris Gimenez had a two-run homer and a sac fly versus the Twins on Sunday.

The Rays wouldn't have kept the 30-year-old Gimenez on the 40-man roster all winter if they didn't like him as their likely backup catcher this year. Unfortunately, he's not likely to outhit starter Jose Molina by much.
