The move cleared a spot on the 40-man roster for Jack Cust, who will join the team Saturday after putting on a power display down on the farm. Ramirez, 29, had a 4.91 ERA and 1.73 WHIP for the A's this season.

Ramirez posted a 4.50 ERA and 9/8 K/BB ratio in six relief appearances before being sent to the minors on April 27. The 29-year-old right-hander had allowed three runs over four innings (6.75 ERA) with the River Cats.

Athletics optioned RHP Edwar Ramirez to Triple-A Sacramento.

He was sent down in order to make room for infielder Steve Tolleson on the roster. Ramirez got off to a good start this year, but has walked seven batters over his last 2 2/3 innings. He's still a big strikeout guy, but he needs to work out his control issues in the minor leagues.

Athletics acquired RHP Edwar Ramirez from the Rangers for INF Gregorio Petit.

The Rangers, who was just picked up Ramirez from the Yankees earlier this month, was set to be send down to Triple-A before the trade. He will report to big league camp with the Athletics. The 28-year-old had a 5.73 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 22 innings last season, but is just one season removed from posting a 3.90 ERA and 10.2 K/9. Oakland is one of the best possible spots for his high flyball rate.

Rangers acquired RHP Edwar Ramirez from the Yankees for cash considerations.

Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Bombers last week. The Rangers hope they can recapture the guy who averaged 10.2 K/9 in 2008. Ramirez quickly fell in the pecking order in New York, thanks to a 5.73 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 22 innings last season. Basically, his changeup -- once a legitimate weapon -- has stopped fooling people. Couple that with poor control and a high flyball rate, and it could be a disastrous experiment at the Ballpark in Arlington. Still, it's a worthy one.

Yankees designated RHP Edwar Ramirez for assignment.

The move was necessary in order to clear roster space for freshly inked reliever Chan Ho Park. Ramirez, 29 in March, had an ugly 5.73 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 22 innings last season for the Yankees.

Yankees optioned RHP Edwar Ramirez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Ramirez's 5.19 ERA in 15 games was bad enough, but it was the 15 walks in 17 2/3 innings that sealed his fate. "Too many walks," Ramirez said. "I feel like something's wrong. It's probably better for me."

Edwar Ramirez picked up his second spring victory with 1 1/3 scoreless innings against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Ramirez was behind at the start of the spring because of shoulder bursitis, but he's caught up quickly and seems likely to retain his spot in the pen. He's allowed one run and posted a 6/1 K/BB ratio in 5 1/3 innings.

Edwar Ramirez made his spring debut Saturday and pitched a scoreless inning versus the Astros.

Ramirez had been out with shoulder bursitis. If he can avoid any setbacks, he should have plenty of time left to compete for a job.

Edwar Ramirez threw off a mound Thursday for the first time since being diagnosed with mild shoulder bursitis two weeks ago.

Ramirez is still several more bullpen sessions away from seeing game action, but is on track to be ready for Opening Day. Whether or not he cracks the Yankees' bullpen is another issue.

The Associated Press reports that Edwar Ramirez and Jose Veras have decided not to pitch for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.

Both pitchers are vying for spots in the Yankees' bullpen, though Ramirez is currently shut down due to bursitis in the right shoulder.

Edwar Ramirez has been diagnosed with mild bursitis in his right shoulder and will be shut down for at least three days.

The New York Daily News notes that while bursitis isn't considered a serious problem, "Steve Karsay and Tanyon Sturtze were initially diagnosed with the same thing before eventually undergoing major shoulder surgery."
