Rangers optioned LHP Aaron Poreda to Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers purchased the contract of LHP Aaron Poreda from Triple-A Round Rock.

It's been an interesting journey for Poreda. The former first-round pick hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009 and has been limited to 20 minor league innings over the last two-plus seasons due to Tommy John surgery. He's reportedly throwing hard again, but control has always been his issue.

Rangers signed LHP Aaron Poreda to a minor league contract.

Poreda, the 27th overall pick in 2007, is finally recovered from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and clocked in at 97 mph with his fastball in a recent workout, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports. The 27-year-old lefty will be in Rangers camp next spring.

Pirates released LHP Aaron Poreda.

Poreda was a first-round pick of the White Sox in 2007 and made a pretty quick rise up to the big leagues, but he hasn't been in the majors since 2009 and last season made just three starts at the Double-A level. He's still just 26, so there's time to turn it around.

Padres sent LHP Aaron Poreda outright to Triple-A Tucson.

Poreda was designated for assignment by the Padres earlier this week and passed through waivers easily. He'll remain in the bullpen at Triple-A.

Padres designated LHP Aaron Poreda for assignment.

The Friars needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster and Poreda got the boot after posting a 7.38 ERA in 32 innings this year at Triple-A Tucson. He's only 24 years old, so other clubs may have interest.

Double-A San Antonio’s Aaron Poreda pitched a pair of hitless innings out of the pen on Sunday.

Poreda was a complete bust after being acquired from the White Sox in the Jake Peavy deal, and he still hasn’t completely recovered. The Padres had him working as a starting in Triple-A last year, but after watching him walk 37 in 32 2/3 innings, they send him to the Double-A pen to begin this year. He has a 0.93 ERA at the moment, but he’s walked eight in his 9 2/3 innings. He’s just a project at this point.

Padres optioned LHPs Aaron Poreda and Cesar Ramos to Triple-A Portland; optioned LHP Steve Garrison and RHP Craig Italiano Double-A San Antonio; reassigned catchers Mitch Canham and Michael Collins and RHP Jackson Quezada to minor league camp.

Poreda, a key to last season's Jake Peavy trade, made this decision easy by allowing nine earned runs and seven walks in 2 1/3 innings. He and Ramos will front a deep rotation in Portland.

Aaron Poreda retired none of the seven batters he faced Wednesday and was charged with seven runs -- six earned -- in a loss to the Indians.

A year ago at this time, Poreda, a 2007 first-round pick, was supposed to have a great chance of making the White Sox. Now he's an afterthought in San Diego after being included in the Jake Peavy trade. The potential is still there, but he's nowhere near ready to become a useful major league starter. If he helps this year, it will probably be as a reliever.

Padres recalled LHP Aaron Poreda from Triple-A Portland.

Poreda was acquired at the trade deadline from the White Sox in a large package for Jake Peavy. He should draw a couple of starts down the stretch, but had a 7.16 ERA in six starts with Portland and needs to be avoided in most fantasy leagues. 2010 might be a different story.
