Cardinals re-assigned OF Carlos Peguero, C Eric Fryer, INF Jacob Wilson and RHP Juan Gonzalez to minor league camp.

None of the cuts are a surprise. Fryer getting sent out confirms that Yadier Molina (thumb) will be ready to go for Opening Day.

Carlos Peguero homered in the top of the ninth as the Cardinals played the Braves to an 8-8 tie on Wednesday.

Peguero is one of those guys who would be a lot more interesting if the NL were to suddenly adopt the DH. He's never going to hit for average in the majors, but he has 25-homer power and he can run a little, too. As is, he's not really worthy of a roster spot on the Cardinals or on many other teams, but create another 15 jobs for hitters out of thin air and that might change.

Cardinals signed OF Carlos Peguero to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Peguero has hit only .194/.263/.384 across 319 plate appearances in his big league career, although he's slugged 13 homers. Slated to turn 29 next month, Peguero has long had an all-or-nothing approach that has led to gaudy home run and strikeout totals in the minors. He's merely a depth addition for the Cards.

Red Sox re-signed OF Carlos Peguero to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Peguero elected free agency last week after being outrighted off Boston's 40-man roster. He drew interest from a team in Japan but has decided to remain in the Red Sox system. The 28-year-old is a .194/.263/.384 career hitter in 103 major league games.

Chris Cotillo of reports that Carlos Peguero is receiving interest from a Japanese club.

Peguero was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket a few days ago but has yet to report. He drew interest from teams overseas over the winter, as well, before eventually inking a minor league deal with the Rangers.

Red Sox sent OF Carlos Peguero outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Peguero had just one hit in five at-bats before being designated for assignment. He cleared waivers and will serve as outfield depth -- something the Red Sox aren't short on -- in Pawtucket.

Red Sox designated OF Carlos Peguero for assignment.

Peguero was acquired from the Rangers for cash a week ago, but he's getting the boot now to clear a roster spot for new outfielder Alejandro De Aza. Peguero logged just six plate appearances with Boston. The 28-year-old is a .194/.263/.384 career major league hitter.

Red Sox acquired OF Carlos Peguero from the Rangers for cash considerations.

Peguero was designated for assignment by Texas one week ago after batting .186/.310/.414 in 84 plate appearances. The 28-year-old outfielder is a .194/.262/.387 career hitter at the major league level.

Rangers designated OF Carlos Peguero for assignment.

Peguero has the reputation of a 4-A player and didn't do anything to dispel that line of thinking with four homers but a .186/.310/.414 batting line and 36 strikeouts over 70 at-bats with the Rangers. It's possible another team will be intriguing enough with the power to scoop him up.

Carlos Peguero struck out all four times he was up Wednesday against the Royals.

Peguero is 0-for-9 the last two days, dropping his average to .200. With Josh Hamilton on a rehab assignment, Peguero's time as a starter against right-handers for the Rangers is likely running out.

Carlos Peguero went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's loss to the Rays.

Peguero, who came into the season with just nine career home runs over 214 at-bats, has hit four in this week alone, as he homered on Tuesday, homered twice on Wednesday and added another two-run shot on Saturday. In 49 at-bats this season, Peguero is hitting .226/.364/.528, though most of that slugging is being buoyed by this hot week.

Carlos Peguero went 3-for-4 with two homers Wednesday as the Rangers crushed the Astros 11-3.

Peguero, who didn't have a homer until Tuesday, is now tied for the Rangers lead at three with Kyle Blanks, who was just called up last week. Peguero has struck out a whopping 20 times in 41 official at-bats, but the power is real and he does have 10 walks to go along with his .238 average. He should be a fixture against right-handers until Josh Hamilton returns.

Carlos Peguero hit his first home run of the season in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

Peguero hit the two-run shot off Astros starter Scott Feldman in the first inning. It was his only hit in three at-bats. Peguero's power has always been his calling card but just hitting for average has been the struggle. This year is no different, as he's now batting .184/.367/.368 through 19 games.

Rangers recalled OF Carlos Peguero from Triple-A Round Rock.

He's replacing Ryan Rua who was placed on the disabled list on Saturday. Manager Jeff Bannister is wasting no time throwing Peguero into the fire, as he's in the lineup and batting second against the Astros on Saturday.
