Rangers designated OF Carlos Peguero for assignment.
Peguero has the reputation of a 4-A player and didn't do anything to dispel that line of thinking with four homers but a .186/.310/.414 batting line and 36 strikeouts over 70 at-bats with the Rangers. It's possible another team will be intriguing enough with the power to scoop him up. May 20 - 3:11 PM

Date:

Carlos Peguero struck out all four times he was up Wednesday against the Royals.

Peguero is 0-for-9 the last two days, dropping his average to .200. With Josh Hamilton on a rehab assignment, Peguero's time as a starter against right-handers for the Rangers is likely running out.
May 13 - 11:06 PM

Carlos Peguero went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's loss to the Rays.

Peguero, who came into the season with just nine career home runs over 214 at-bats, has hit four in this week alone, as he homered on Tuesday, homered twice on Wednesday and added another two-run shot on Saturday. In 49 at-bats this season, Peguero is hitting .226/.364/.528, though most of that slugging is being buoyed by this hot week.
May 9 - 9:44 PM

Carlos Peguero went 3-for-4 with two homers Wednesday as the Rangers crushed the Astros 11-3.

Peguero, who didn't have a homer until Tuesday, is now tied for the Rangers lead at three with Kyle Blanks, who was just called up last week. Peguero has struck out a whopping 20 times in 41 official at-bats, but the power is real and he does have 10 walks to go along with his .238 average. He should be a fixture against right-handers until Josh Hamilton returns.
May 6 - 11:11 PM

Carlos Peguero hit his first home run of the season in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

Peguero hit the two-run shot off Astros starter Scott Feldman in the first inning. It was his only hit in three at-bats. Peguero's power has always been his calling card but just hitting for average has been the struggle. This year is no different, as he's now batting .184/.367/.368 through 19 games.
May 5 - 11:12 PM

Rangers recalled OF Carlos Peguero from Triple-A Round Rock.

He's replacing Ryan Rua who was placed on the disabled list on Saturday. Manager Jeff Bannister is wasting no time throwing Peguero into the fire, as he's in the lineup and batting second against the Astros on Saturday.
Apr 11 - 4:04 PM

Rangers optioned OF Carlos Peguero to Triple-A Round Rock.

Peguero slashed .350/.435/.500 over 46 plate appearances this spring. In regular season play, his numbers have never come close to approaching these, as he's a career .196/.245/.379 hitter. He has enough power (30 home runs in Triple-A last season) that the Rangers will likely give him his share of chances to prove that he's more than a Quadruple-A player.
Apr 1 - 12:07 PM

Rangers signed OF Carlos Peguero to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Peguero was released by the Royals last month and owns a lousy .196/.245/.379 over 229 plate appearances in the majors. However, he blasted 30 homers in Triple-A and should be useful outfield depth to have around. He turns 28 next month.
Jan 13 - 3:47 PM

Peter Gammons of GammonsDaily.com reports that "lots of teams" are in on Carlos Peguero.

Peguero, who will turn 28 next month, was released by the Royals last month and is a career .196/.245/.379 over 229 big league plate appearances. However, he's consistently hit for power in the minors, blasting 30 homers in 2014 at Triple-A. He'd likely only require a minor league deal, though he's also reportedly received interest from Japanese clubs.
Jan 9 - 12:39 PM

Royals released OF Carlos Peguero.

FOX Sports 1's CJ Nitkowski reported last month that Peguero was receiving interest from Japanese clubs, so perhaps he's close to an overseas deal. The 27-year-old has hit just .196/.245/.379 over 229 big league plate appearances.

Jeffrey Flanagan of FOX Sports Kansas City reports that the Royals have had internal discussions about committing to Carlos Peguero in a timeshare role in right field and at designated hitter.

The Royals are courting Torii Hunter, and it sounds like if they land him they could split his duty between right field and DH with Peguero. FOX Sports 1's CJ Nitkowski reported Tuesday that Peguero was receiving interest from Japanese clubs, but it sounds like he may have an opportunity in the states.

FOX Sports 1's CJ Nitkowski reports that Carlos Peguero is receiving interest from a team in Japan's Central League.

Peguero hasn't had trouble putting up big home run totals in the minors, most recently slugging 30 bombs at Triple-A for the Royals this past season. He hasn't been given much of a chance in the majors, though, and will turn 28 in February. It might be time for him to give it a shot overseas.

Royals purchased the contract of OF Carlos Peguero from Triple-A Omaha.

Peguero will function as a utility outfielder for the Royals down the stretch. He is not fantasy-relevant.
Mon, Sep 1, 2014 02:02:00 PM

Royals sent OF Carlos Peguero outright to Triple-A Omaha.

Peguero had been designated for assignment, but he's cleared waivers and will remain in the organization. The Royals picked him up from the Mariners in January in exchange for cash.
Wed, Apr 2, 2014 01:40:00 PM

Royals designated OF Carlos Peguero for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Patrick Schuster on the 40-man roster. Peguero was acquired from the Mariners in late January, but he could now be on the move once again.
